Title: I'm a little concerned. (To do with the boards)
Post by: dying_inside on May 14, 2007, 08:34:31 pm
Now I know  that you dont allow spoilers on thsi board and I do whole heartedly agree with this. However I was kinda concerned when I found that someone asking for help with the name or a location of a trainer was given the brush off and was offered no help whatsoever, after having asked around in game and searching for a while. Though they didnt state they had searched, why would you turn to forums for help if you hadnt already searched first and asked other people for help. You wouldnt. Common sense says that you look around for a while and if you cant find your answer you go to the boards. They are supposedly where help comes from.

And about this being a spoiler, I dont think so. The walkthrough of a quest would be a spoiler. The difficulty of Mobs would be a spoiler. The maps and such would be a spoiler. But asking for help about the location of an NPC is simply a request for help. Answering is not spoiling a game, its just helping somone out.  The "oh noes spiler" attitude  seems to be stretched a little and the boundries are now warped. I suggest you review the idea of what is and  what isnt a spoiler.

For help a definition and example:
A: Spoiler - Somthing that divulges information intended to be a surprise, such as a plot twist in a movie.
B: spoiler - someone who pampers or spoils by excessive indulgence

Now correct me if I'm wrong but are the trainer NPC's supposed to be a suprise?  Is answering a simple question excessive indulgence or pampering?
At very least if you must PM the guy a sulution and say so on the boards, but  dont dismiss players with a short "Oh noes itz a spiler!". I see it akin to saying "too long didn't read".

I see no reason this could not be handled by fellow players in game. Players are supposed to discover this through interacting with the game world that means npcs and players.

;) Also note that NOT every player knows every trainer, what they train ect. I always look around for any luck. I mean it's worth the search, after you found her/him you come back for quite awhile mostly to outreach a certain trainer, it's not like you're done with them within minutes  ;)

Exploring the map and finding trainers is part of the game, therefor revealing such information out-of-game is a spoiler.
