Title: ugly fonts
Post by: napsy on May 28, 2007, 07:20:06 pm
Hello. I'm using Ubuntu 7.07 with Radeon 9200XP with direct rendering enabled. There's only one problem. If I run planetshift or the setup program, the fonts are rendered unreadable. How to fix this? I tried with disabeling font multitexturing but it's no different.

:D You're the 2nd person to post this exact same question in the last few hours.

You can try # 7 on this page:

http://vaalnor.mine.nu/psdoc/?q=node/39 (http://vaalnor.mine.nu/psdoc/?q=node/39)

Also, look at this thread:

You can also try a few changes - vertex buffers, etc on or off, etc.  Those I think are in the psclient.cfg file in your PlaneShift directory.  Not positive though.  What is your graphics card?

As I sed I have ATI Radeon 9200 XP with the opensource ati drivers.
I played a bit with the config but nothing works.

You're only hope may well be the official drivers from ati then.  Its all I can think of to try for you.

This is not a PS bug it is a bug on your system you need to try to fix yourself.

Well I would recommend that the devs get in contact with the ubuntu/mesa guys to fix the bug together since fixing problems isn't exactly the players task.

/me scolds Caarie for her condescending tone.  Easy there mate!  Its not as simple as that, this is not this persons fault, their system isn't technically broken - its configured correctly.  There is some bugginess with mesa and its on the Ubuntu devs side to be sure, but to suggest that the average user could fix this is incomprehensibly dense.  :) Come one be happy! Lighten up!  This is all supposed to be fun.  Have fun with it!

In any case I've submitted some reports to the Ubuntu guys and got a few things discussed but they think it needs to be fixed upstream in the mesa source.  I haven't contacted mesa folks yet but I'll get on it. Even if I can just get an unofficial mesa deb made I think that will work as a usable solution for most people here.

I'll try to get something done soon on it.  I had a really bad week last week that nearly put me out of commission for a bit but I'm back in black now! Or something like that :D

Any progress fixing this big?

UPDATE: ok, this issue has been fixed with the latest dri/mesa. Compiling dri and mesa from git sources should do the trick. For me it works.
