In looking at the racial description pages on the planeshift.it site I notice that a lot of the races are limited to rank 8 in one skill or another. I am wondering whether this should change as level 8 is so insignificant in the general scheme of things as to be effectively 0. Would it not be better to have an experience/training modifier rather than a hard cap so that while the races have distinctive qualities an individual with sufficient desire can still advance. It is true that some of the characteristics such as the klyro inability to wear heavier armor types would seem to be unavoidable there could be mighty quests for some magical form of lightweight alloy armor which could allow use of such a skill.
As it happens now, my kran character is already at or exceeding his race based magical capacity and for the most part his magic is still useless. There would seem to be very little point to kran doing any type of magic so why allow 8 ranks?

I think that balancing out all this stuff is a stage that comes after everything is implemented .. or at least the large majority of what is being planned for Planeshift.

rank 8 would be level 80. each rank is 10 levels. last i checked 80 was a little different from 0.
now, if thats too low or high or what not, when things become more balanced intime, it'll probably be adjusted if needed.

Ahh thanks that was unclear to me. Does that apply to all skills or just magic?

erm, no rank 8 is just that, rank 8... REALM 8 would be lvl 160 if my math is correct.

I agree Realm 8 appears to limit them to level 160... and that when we raise a level we "rank up" implying the value that is getting incremented is itself the "rank". (Though I'm just assuming that much)
Anyway, for those that aren't sure, here's my understanding of the Realms/Ranks, I'm pretty sure it's correct:
Realm = Levels/Ranks
1 = 0-19
2 = 20-39
3 = 40-59
4 = 60-79
5 = 80-99
6 = 100-119
7 = 120-139
8 = 140-159

meh, then my information is out of date.
:oops:

Is it possible the wording on the web page is also out of date? It wouldn't be the first time. Is there someone who can give a more definitive answer?
