Title: Trouble updating
Post by: Wrathful on June 15, 2007, 03:06:47 am
Hi everyone.

I'm the newest player of Planeshift, but I can't seem to be able to play. Here's my situation:

I've downloaded BitTorrent and the Planeshift program. I've installed the program from the Torrent and everything. I got the pop-up to start playing, and it told me to Update it. I pressed update, and it said this:

Click Update to start
Checking registry version...
Couldn't connect to mirror mir1!
trying mirror mir2...
Mirror lacks a version file; can't use it
trying mirror mir2
Mirror lacks a version file; can't use it
trying mirror backup
Mirror lacks a version file; can't use it
Ran out of mirrors! Game cannot be updated.

I'm pretty sure I have to requirements to play Planeshift (Using Microsoft XP)

If someone knows whats wrong and how to solve this, please let me know!

P.S: And, optionally, when I will be able to play this (hopefully), i'd like to meet some people and make friends....But let's concentrate on the problem first!

Thanks alot!
-Jared

you don't need to update.
3.18 works fresh out of the box.
just break the seals and enjoy

When I do that and I click play, I need to create a character. All the characters are blurry and un-seeable, and the client is extremely slow. I've played Planeshift a long way back...but i'm not sure if I can play it now if I can't update. For some of the characters, it says that the 3d model isn't available. Is there something wrong with my computer?

Not all 3D models are done at the moment, so some races use models made for others.

Sounds like you might need to update your graphics card drivers - give this a try?

No offense, Mr. Moderator, but I have NO idea how to do that.

Also, I made a cat-like character and entered the game, but it's PITCH BLACK and all i can see are three colored lines: red, blue, and green. My character is very hard to see. Not sure if this has been reported or not >.< Maybe it's my computer or something.

It's your computer :)

If you don't know what graphics card you have, point to the Start button and click Run. Type "dxdiag" (no quotes) in the box and press return. In the new window, go to the Display tab, and read "Name" and "Manufacturer". "Name" is the name and model of your card, and "Manufacturer"... is self-explanatory ;)

To get the latest driver version for your card:

For NVidia, visit www.nvidia.com (http://www.nvidia.com)
For ATI, visit www.ati.com (http://www.ati.com)
For anything else, use www.Google.com (http://www.Google.com) to find the correct manufacturer address.

Thanks alot, mr. Moderator! But it says that I have Radeon 9200 Se family and the manufacturer is already ATI. I just restarted my computer, maybe that'll help. I'll check now. And about the Pitch black thing, i read in other topics that the game is crashing. Is that why?

The manufacturer is where you go to get driver updates. So visit the ATI website, and look for drivers for your card version :)

Again, the pitch black issue is probably because of your graphics drivers. It is not related to any other issue.

And Again Mr. Moderator, I have no idea what a driver is. I'm not a computer genius. (Sorry if your getting annoyed of me) Okay, i'm @ the website, I clikced drivers & softwares, then they gave me choices. I chose Windows XP, Radeon, Radeon series 9200....then it showed me a Catalyst Software Suite. I clicked it and downloaded it....and I have not a single idea what it's doing or why i need it.

Ya, i'm a noob......don't remind me.

After you downloaded it, run it to install the latest drivers :) You might need to reboot your machine, and after that PlaneShift should look fine.

Does this happen when you try to run the game too? Can you post your system specs? Processor, RAM amount, and video card please.

By saying that you have everything installed, I will assume you've also read the entire thread and noted that you should have updated drivers for your video card as well. If that isn't the case, please read before posting.

I have the same problem, is it actually a problem or is it normal?  Also the window for the game is a bit off, a bit too small for full screen or a bit too large for fullscreen window.

For the window position/size problem:

Run the PlaneShift setup application (pssetup.exe, found in your main PlaneShift folder - C:\Program Files\PlaneShift Crystal Blue\ by default) and change the game resolution to something lower than your native screen size. So if your monitor is running at 1024x768, run the game at 800x600. Reposition the game window, then run the setup again and change the resolution back to something you'd like more. Alternatively, you can run it in fullscreen mode - the option can be found in the same setup application.

But when it comes to the problems posted above, you simply must follow instructions - post your system specs, and tell me if your graphics card drivers are fully up to date. I cannot help you otherwise! Read the thread fully before posting please.
