Title: Falling through the Floor
Post by: Warip on June 23, 2007, 03:03:57 pm
:o I just got to Bronze Doors and i fell through the floor! Is there any way to prevent this because it takes AGES to get to Bronze Doors.

Falling off the earth is far less common than it used to be, one thing you can do is to look carefully where you are stepping, another is to pinpoint the position of the discontinuity and post it on the bugtracker, but this does not always help. Was it possibly just up the hill to the left from the BD entrance pass such as seen in this picture? (http://web.ncf.ca/cr502/ps/shot06.jpg) bug 2141 (http://hydlaa.com/bugtracker/bug.php?op=show&bugid=2141&pos=0)
Another view (http://web.ncf.ca/cr502/ps/shot07.jpg) and a third (http://web.ncf.ca/cr502/ps/shot08.jpg). I have been hoping someone would be able to confirm this for quite a while but it seems to affect only me. I had a gm come to the coordinates once but he could not see anything except me disappearing when I stepped onto it but he was in windows and I was in linux.

Anyway /pos will give you the coordinates where you are standing.

That hole looks familiar, I ran into it ages ago in Walktest...
It looks fine ingame, for me, though. I thought it was a problem with my CrystalSpace.

It might be a peculiarity of my graphics chip, onboard gf4, but it is still there for me and fatal if I step on it. It does seem odd to me that that one triangle out of all the ones in the game does not "exist."

It is not a big problem. It may not be the same place the OP fell through though he has not been back to provide more information.

I made a screenshot of the hole. I see it, but Trymm, standing next to me, does not!!

He walked onto it without problems, I fell through.

Looks like it may be the same hole from a different angle as in my pictures. What OS you running Lanarel?

I see this bug is being tested on the bugtracker. This comment has become redundant.

I know another hole in bd, alltough a lot smaller. I can post the coords as soon as I get there again or show an GM in game. Its near Raerul Bloodaxe.

And one hint to avoid falling of world: Make an /unstick shortcut [backspace is very intuitive for this shortcut  8) ] and hit it as soon as you start to fall. Helps in most cases.

With changes to unstick in the next release this will NOT work anymore.

Zwenze:

The "hole" you mean may be the "portal" between the two zones of this map ("bd-outer" and "bd-inner"; or similar). Sometimes, as soon as you pass that part, the other half disappears. When you step back, you will fall. Can be seen well with a distant 3rdPF camera.
