I don't what topic this falls under but I tried my best.
I haven't played this game in a long time. I think the last time I got on was maybe last year, october maybe. I'm wondering if there is anything I should know that I've missed.
Do I need to get a more recent version of the game? Any patches I need to download? Anything significant I should know about? Things of that nature I would like to know so I can return to the game.

http://video.google.ca/videoplay?docid=3492866417215400000 is a good place to start
but current version is 3.18, download and you don't need to update

Ok, so the current version is 3.18? I think I already have that version. How do I check?
By the way, the server is never up. Is that regular maintenance? Or am I just not up to date? That's my real fear....not being up to date.

When you run the client, the version appears in the top left-hand corner of the game window.
And the server is up a good amount of the time :) It could just be that you have the wrong client version (previous client versions cannot connect) or that you have a firewall or router blocking your connection. Check that you have UDP port 7777 enabled if you think that's the case.

Wow! I'm stuck in the past! :o
My current version is 3.015b, or atleast that's what I think I saw.
So do I just uninstall and then reinstall the new version? What should my next step be?
-
Uninstall, check that you have no folders remaining from the old version, then install the new client and you're ready to go. No need to run any updaters.

Ok, thanks for your help. It's downloading as we speak, I mean type.
My only concern now is adjusting to the new community. Will I be better off creating a new character?
Sorry if that was a little off topic.

It's really up to you :) I don't think there are any advantages nor disadvantages to either choice.
