Title: Damage when researching runes

I am trying to learn some magic spells. I am level 16 in crystal way with int 68 charisma 75. Every time I try to research a rune I suffer damage if my will isn't 100%. Am i doing something wrong?

You sure are ...

Magic is a dangerous toy to play with. If you don't have the proper knowledge (glyph combination) or skills (magic way level) you'll sooner hurt yourself than get something useful out of it.

Thanks for the warning Zan, but I want to learn magic. If this means some pain, so be it. Can you offer any constructive pointers as to how I may begin to dabble in the arts, given my above abilities, or tell me what minimum stats I should be aiming for so that I might build up to using magic safely.

I have memorised and am using Summon Missile.

I thought magic was an integral part of the game or is it meant to be a realm beyond the grasp of the ordinary gamer?

Magic is a part of the game but at the same time it's very hard to master and requires a whole lot more dedication and training than most other skills.

The best way to start is by reading the magic guide (http://www.planeshift.it/guide/en/guide-magic.html) and trying to find a skilled mage in-game who will take you on as an apprentice.
