Title: Trouble Installing
Post by: Dell8400p4 on July 03, 2007, 03:49:20 pm
I can't download BitTorrent so I tried using the mirrors. I tried 2,3,4,5 and when I finished downloading it, when it comes to installation it says: Error cannot find file, Boot, Retry, Ignore.  I click Ignore and the same thing happens. Im going to try Mirror 1 today and if that doesn't work I'll ask my dad to log me on to his ID and try it there, because last night it worked.

MODIFY: No mirror 1 didnt work, ill have to wait until my dad comes home from work.

I having trouble installing too. I don't know why, but Planeshift won't open on my computer. I have all the requirements, but still no use. I'm getting a little frustrated! I've tried almost everything.

You'll have to describe the problem a bit more. What exactly happens when you try to install the game?

Well, an 'agreement license' appears, and after I press 'I agree' another window appears. This new window says 'verifying installation' and takes a couple of minutes. After that, 'Planeshift Updater' appears, but it only shows a black screen and this is all. The character creation does not show up at all. Once today, I was succesfully taken to the login screen, after numerous trys. Howvever, the server failed. When I restarted my computer and tried to open Planeshift again, the 'Lincense agreement' showed up once more and started installing itself. Every time I click on the PlaneShift link, it starts to install itself again, although it has already been installed. Please help.

Thank you for your time

The PlaneShift Updater appears because you have "Run Updater" checked after the installation finishes - and it isn't necessary to run it at all right now. I think what you are clicking on is the installation file. After it's done installing, there should be a "PlaneShift Crystal Blue" in your Start Menu, and you should find a "PlaneShift Crystal Blue" folder in your Program Files. What you need to run after installation is the actual game client - psclient.exe. Make a shortcut for it on your desktop.

Ah, yes. I've tried your solution and another player from planeshift suggested I should also open Planeshift from the start menu. I was glad to be sucessfully logged in; although I cannot seem to create my character. The 'character screen' opens' but it will not allow me to pick my class of choice, gender or my name.

*edit*

Even if I run updater from my program files, nothing really happens. The 'updater' window appears, but it is just a black screen. Nothing is really happening. Does updater take a long time to load? If so, what is the average time?

your not going to get anything new at the moment anyway

When you run the game client, login, and reach the Character Selection screen, click on an empty "New Character" slot and you'll be taken to the Character Creation. Are you simply having trouble selecting anything (for example clicking on any of the race names does nothing at all)? Or were you at the Character Selection window and didn't know where to go?

If it's the former, I may suggest that you try uninstalling PlaneShift entirely (make sure no folders are left behind), and then reinstall. Make sure you do not run the updater - after the installation finishes, uncheck "Run Updater (Highly Recommended)".

I will try your suggestion, but even if 'updater' is not to be ran yet, should'nt an updater button appear? I still do not understand why nothing comes up.
Thank you again for your time.
