Hello,
I am wondering why somebody buys gold ingots for 700 trias each, in an amount of some thousands. ???
I have no explanation for it. I asked the player who offered to buy the ingots why he buys them but he ignored me.

I got a PM and I was told that this player could be afraid of his money. He changes his money in gold, and after a possible wipe he has still his gold ingots he can sell to a NPC.
Is that the reason why?
Bepules is going to by gold and make gold stocks for harder times than now

OMG THERE is a wipe coming that sucks so much I had just levelled my character up and maxed out all his str and agil and I got some cool items and now they are all going to be gone and this means I wasted soo much time in this game why the hell do the devs do this to us ARGH.

Doesn't the wipe only affect major high pps and trias? I believe that is the reason for ppl buying gold ingots. I've heard a few different reasons, like ingots and and training won't be wiped, and so on...But really, what does it matter? Doesn't the wipe only happen when the new client is released? And by the looks of things that won't be some time soon. Not that I'm complaining, I am still enjoying the game and doing my winch access quests. But I am running out of things to do and I'm sure other ppl already have.

But even if there is a wipe of higher trias, what is the need if I changed my tria in gold ingots or gold stocks before?

Your words of truth have shown me the way of the National Socialist Roleplaying Party, I have stopped levelling 5 months ago, and now I stand for the complete BAN of all the 1337 dregs of PlaneShifterkind! I stand for stricter rules against the absurd and unrealistic forms of PvP and I stand for a much more focused roleplaying, closing this game to all but roleplayers and requiring all to give a at least 7 lines long description of their characters before they are accepted into the server! You can call me a RP-Nazi as much as you wish, but the truth is, there is something terribly wrong with roleplaying in PlaneShift, isn't it? If measures are not taken, it will only degrade more and more, until reaching the lowest level where the anti-roleplays like Tibia and RunEscape lie, we must take action before it's to late! Bring the wipe to demotivate all the 1337! NOW! >o)
Now seriously, remember that World of Warcraft is a "family" game and it stands as a piece of turd regarding roleplaying. If this game is opened for all, this might be its final fate as well, unless critical modifications are made on the way levelling works, not only to balance it, but to remove alltogether the grind that is a completely anti-roleplay element, something I don't know if is going to happen or not.

A wipe is a different thing than an inventory balancing. I have never suffered a wipe in over two years of my characters existence. there have been several inventory balancings however.

Imagine my character is a banker. He collects money of his customers and gives interests on the money. He also gives loans to people who are in the need of money. His profit results from the differences of the interests.
Is it not roleplaying if I play a character who has this job? Sure, you can roleplay it without any real moneytransfer ingame. But the game mechanics allow to do it, isn't it. The existence of real money ingame even supports roleplaying. In my opinion all game mechanics like stats and skills should do this and should used to support roleplay.
But: I never said that I am afraid of a wipe. No, I wanted to point out that in case of a wipe it is not enough if only the tria are wiped because there are ever some people who are knowing about an upcoming wipe. And these people try to change their tria in other good before. That means, if there is a wipe every item has to be wiped until a certain number of items, let's say 5. If not, the wipe has no advantage.
If my character would be a banker it would be hard for me to play his role after a wipe. He will loos most of his money and the game mechanics which are supporting his role (tria) are away. That means his customers probably won't trust him anymore. Even if there is only a inventory balancing which means only high amounts of trias are wiped it would be a problem for my character because as a banker he has an above-average amount of trias. You see, a wipe affects not only power skillers, even roleplayers who never spend one tria in leveling.

I do not know if there is a wipe coming. However, from what I've heard, in the past the only thing this usually affects is way high trias, pps and if you have more then 10 of the same quest item. Example : I have 13 Merc Helms there fore 12 of them might be taken away. These were some of the examples given to me in game.
I assuming, that there will be some kind of 'wipe' when the new client comes out. But as to when and how exactly it will all work, I do not know. Although, I'm not worried about it at all. All in all it's a game and if I have to mine some more to gain more money and fight Tefs and Treps again for more pps, well happy hunting to me. It will just boost my training anyways ;)
There's a brighter side to everything. I look at it like this, if it costs me some pps and some trias and maybe even some stats to get the new client...so be it. I would rather do that then get nothing in return at all ::|
