Title: Thunder Storm
Post by: Deckchair on July 21, 2007, 11:26:33 am
this is my first try at a story, it might not be too good. but any way,... here we go:

Chapter I
The rain was barely noticed as the old man was heaved off his feet and held up by a shadowy figure. "w...who a.. are you?" the old man gasped, "w. w.. what do you want from me?"
" I will tell you, not that it will mean much to you......I am Mordred, Mordred Night walker. "M....M....Mordred?...... the cursed? No! it cannot be! We destroyed you in the battle at Blood Peak! It is not Possible!. " I see you know me.... how unfortunate, for you of course.... no one can know" "W...w... what? no! ... plea........... AAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHHHHHHGGGGGG!!!!!!!!" the scream echoed through the mountains, startling a fox from her den. As the old man's walking staff dropped to the ground in the rain, the old man's body went limp. As the body was dumped into a muddy ditch, and a wolf, far off howled, as Mordred slipped off into the rain, towards a small village in the great western plains.....

The rain fell lightly, and no-one in the small village noticed it start. "Ahhhhhhh!!!!!,  stop doing that Saren!" Tashuu squealed as the thunder rumbled over head, and the lightning flashed outside, in the howling wind. "Come and eat your dinner and stop playing near the fire!" said their mother,Scarafet in a stern voice.

That night when the town had gone to sleep, Mordred snuck through the town, silent and unseen through the heavy rain. Going from house to house, the shadow silently searches. At last it came to Saren's house, stops and sniffs the air, its eys glitter a bright blood red and it smiles wickedly," Finally! i have found her! after so long, now i can complete this endless task!". Saren awoke with a start, and looked around, frightened. She whispering to herself “That’s the third time i have had that dream........ i cant stand it.....hey, whats that smell?" Saren crept quietly to her door, and peeked out. A shadow was creeping along to her brother's room, and it silently opened the door and peered into Tashuu's room. Saren's Eyes dilitated, and a gasp slipped out of her mouth. In Tashuu's room, the shadow looked out of the door, hearing Saren's gasp, and with a swift movement turned around and slid next to Saren's, preparing to enter the room.

Only the small sound of the floorboard creaking alerted Saren to the presence just outside her room. Saren started back and pulled her hands up to her mouth to prevent a strangled scream from escaping. Acting quickly, Saren climbed onto her window-sill and climbed clumbsily onto the roof, scanning the side of her small house for a way to get down and away. At last she found a broken wooden log from the old wood fire pile near the side of the house, she climbed down, frightened that what ever it was inside her house would find her. Mordred, sensing Saren on the roof moved into her room and waited, "I'll let her think she's gotten away from me, give her a sense of safety" Mordred thought to himself, smiling wickedly and settling down to wait.

Out in the fields, Saren began to scramble over the fence that led to the great western plains. Saren looked back at her home and brushed away the tears falling from her eyes as she watched her house begin to smoking in the rain, and began to run through the long grass on the fields. Soon Saren reached the mountain pass, feeling weary, hungry and desperate she searched and finally found a small cave, in which she settled down in and fell into a deep sleep. Mordred awoke quickly, and spotted a small wind-beaten figure struggling along in the wind far out across the plains, almost at the mountain pass. "She has gotten further than expected.........no matter, ill catch her up sooner or later" Mordred leapt from the window and landed on the path next to fields, and small hills stretching off into the distance, were only just visible through the rain, Saren struggled to the foot hills of the mountain pass...

my eyes are weary, and my hands sore, i will continue soon reader, but for now i need a rest
(This is a working draft/project i'll try and add chapters often, please comment later on if you like it :) )

Chapter II

Saren struggled up the mountain side, beset by howling winds, snow, rain and the roaring of the thunder. She wondered what has become of her family, and here small village she loved so much. Tired and hungry, she searched for foot holds on the steep mountain-side, wishing she was anywhere but here. Still she ploughed on trying to shake off the looming thoughts of the night to come. For the past few nights she had spent up in the mountains, she had been ambushed by one or two curious Huraks, a small, swift cat-like animal built for the rugged mountainsides, thin ,strong body, stocky legs, and powerful jaws. Saren only managed to survive on what she had been taught by travelers passing through the plains, stopping at her village.

Mordred was in a edgy mood, exactly two days ago, he had lost trace of Saren, and hadn’t been able to find her since. Climbing swiftly up a steep cliff face, Mordred pulled himself on to the ledge above him. Stopping, he sniffed the air, and caught a scent of a Hurak. ignoring it, Mordred followed a disused, thin windy pass up the mountain side, always searching, never stopping.

A Saren reached the summit of one of the smaller mountains, she glanced back in the direction of here village, but could see nothing past the thick mist forming lower down. looking back towards the north, she finally spotted a light from a Handral-city watch tower, and almost shouted with relief, only just remembering to stop her-self. Saren soon found a narrow, winding but other wise safe path going slowly but surely down the mountain side. Feeling exhausted, Saren decided to press on till she neared the middle of the mountain. Settling in, she set up a half- done camouflage screen across the small entrance to her cave. Exhausted, she dropped onto the floor, making things comfortable for herself.

When she awoke, she gathered her few possessions, and checked for any danger before going out. As Saren neared the mountain's foothills, she suddenly sensed that something was following her, and hoping to throw it off, began to run into the scrub and long grass off to the left of her, ducking, climbing and scrambling over things to get away. Saren quickly realised that whatever chasing her was not being thrown off, and as she entered a clearing, found a thick branch and turned to face the unknown follower. Readying herself, she heard the pounding of the things steps closing in on her, and she lifted the make-shift club higher, preparing for the worst.

The thing leapt through the bush at Saren, Roaring deafeningly. Saren Swung the club with what strength she had left, and heard a resounding crack from the skull of the beast. peering over her arms at the beast she saw that it was a thin, half-starved Tarent, a wolf-like creature, but smaller, but with larger claws, and a steel-like jaw. Seeing blood matting up the fur on the side of it's face she dropped the club and with a sob of despair, ran blindly north, desperately trying to put as much room between her and the scene.

A sentry was leaning against the tower, in the early morning, and heard a sound coming from within the mist, picking up his spear from the ground next to him, he called out "Who goes there?" As soon as he said that, he saw a small girl limping from the mists, hardly able to walk. As the guard realised what was happening, the  girl fell, breathing shallowly, but not getting up. The guard, acting swiftly, darted forward, leaving his spear behind and rushing to help her. As he picked her up, she half mumbled words, but the guard not knowing what they meant, carried her inside, hurrying to the closest healer, hoping that the small girl would not die.

Mordred, having reached the foothills of the same mountain, noticed tracks leading into the thick bush and grass to his left.Following that for a while, he came upon the Tarent. Searching around quickly, he went over to the beast, and saw the blood drying up on the Tarent's head sticking clumps of its fur together. Noticing the branch splattered with blood, decided that it couldn’t have been the small girl he was chasing, she wouldn't have enough energy from the last few nights. Searching on, Mordred missed the faint foot prints leading back north. And walked swiftly back to the path not wanting to waste any more time.

Chapter III

Saren woke, and looked around tentatively, not remembering knowing where she was. She then noticed a man leaning against the window frame, looking at her. “Who are you?" Saren asked the man quietly. “I’m just a tower guard of the city of Hydlaa" he answered to Saren, who was looking confused, said "So why are you here? It’s like you are waiting for something". “I have been waiting for you to wake up, as i am the one who brought you here early this morning, after you came staggering through the mist, looking as if you had been attacked by a beast". As Saren listened to the man, the memories of the long night came flooding back, making her shaking uncontrollably. The Guard rushed over and tried to comfort her, and eventually helped her control herself again. “So what is your name?" Saren asked the guard, wiping her eyes on the hanker-chief that the guard gave her. “My name is Myrden, and what is your name?" “my name is... Saren, Saren Hydaan, thank you for bringing me here, Myrden".

"Myrden!you are needed down at the gaol! the other guards say they have arrested a man for stealing and trespassing!” "I'll be right there; i just have to gather my things!” “I’ll see you later, ok Saren? Try not to get into any trouble while i am gone now!" and with a grin and a wink, Myrden took his equipment and hurried out the door and off to the gaol. A few minutes later the healer came in and said "You need more rest, judging from what you went through last night, get some sleep child" and gently pushed her back down onto her bed and pulled the sheets over her and told her once again to get some rest. Saren soon fell asleep, and dreamt of her family, as she remembered them before that fateful night.

The next morning Saren awoke once again to find Myrden waiting. The healer came in just as she woke and told Saren that she was well enough to get up and walk. “Would you like a guide around the city of Handral?" Mydren asked “I would love to see the rest of Handral!" Myrden led Saren through the winding streets of Hydlaa and they eventually got to the city centre, where a large statue was placed in the middle of a fountain, with steps leading up to the fountain edge. Alot of citizens of Handral were walking around the centre, and children ran through the people, chasing each other and laughing. " I was thinking,Saren, that maybe you will need to learn to defend your self, if you ever get into trouble again, so i have arranged for one of my friends, a smithy to forge you a short sword, along with a sheath, as well as a set of daggers. I will teach you too use your sword, and one of the stealth trainers of the city will teach you in the arts of agility and dexterity". Myrden said as they walked towards a forge. “Thank you, Myrden. But I don’t think i am ready yet", Saren said as she indicated to her bandaged right arm and left shoulder. “Do not worry, the healer I brought you too, Varente, will fix you up and you will be as good as new in a few days".

Mordred trudged along the eastern path, back towards his underground cave, cursing and muttering as he walked. Earlier that day, a troop had rustled him up and took him to the gaol, under suspicion of stealing and trespassing. This, as well as losing all trace of Saren made Mordred angrier as he got buffeted by a strong western wind. When Mordred got to his cave, he slumped onto his bed and lay there, trying to escape into sleep, but as usual, it eluded him. He jumped up and on a quick thought decided to go on a journey, to a place called Plane Shift. “There i will find some one that i can teach, to pass on the skills i have learnt, And once i have found my apprentice, I will search for that girl..."
