Title: Load region failed?
Post by: MonoPhage on July 22, 2007, 11:33:07 pm
Well, I'm new here and I saw this game, looks really fun.  So I download the cilent, make my account and make my character.  After all the fun stuff, I press the Upload button.  It load for about 10-15 seconds, then pops up and says "Load region failed" and after clicking OK, it exits the program.  I've done everything suggested in the troubleshooting thread, but it still does this.  I haven't tried reinstalling yet, but I will in a few minutes.  But does anyone know what I need to do?  I don't believe my computer is the problem, but here are its' specs anyway:

OS: Windows 2000 SP4
HD: 160 GB
Processor: P4(3.0 Ghz)
RAM: 1 GB
Video: 319 MB Shared

Any help is greatly apprectiated, I really want to play this awesome looking game!  Oh, on a sidenote, is there any way to make the sound sound normal and not staticy and stuff?

Ok, thank you, I'll try it as soon as the server comes back up.

*edit*

It's still doing it. :/  Any other ideas?

Shared video memory is usually not a good sign. Can you tell us what card you have, or most likely, what graphics chipset? Have you also tried updating your graphics drivers?

The video card?  It's an ATI Radeon Xpess 1100, and I believe the drivers are up to date.

If you have a desktop your best bet is to get a new graphics card.

Oh, I see, well, that's what I got.  It runs any other 3D game just fine.

PlaneShift is largely unoptimized and finicky :) Double-check about your graphics drivers, just in case. Better to know for certain and cross this possibility off the list.

I'm 100% sure they're up to date.  If they weren't, my desktop would be stuck at 640x480 resoultion with 256 colors. :/  I don't like 2000, but it's all I got to work with.  No money for XP.

that doesn't mean your graphics drivers are upto date.

it is not your operating system that is causing the problem most likely it is the graphics chip you have that cant handle the game. even if you get logged in that does not mean you will get good preformance anyway.

Well, then I don't know.  I'm not sure how to know if they are.  See, this did origanially have Vista on it and one day I decided to be stupid and try to get 2000 to boot with Vista...I would up having to get rid of the Vista, but when I started the machine for the first time in 2000, it was in 640 x 480 with 256 colors and no sound.  When I download ATI Catalyst, it seemed to fix it, so I thought that right there meant it updated it to the latest, but if it didn't then I wouldn't really know how to go about updating the drivers.

it goes to those minimal settings because its using a generic driver and doesn't know how to handle graphics properly. So when you install the drivers, it then understands how to. But that does not mean your graphics drivers are upto date, but again as you seem to have done it recently it most likely is upto date, still go to ATI's website and look anyway.

Yea, I'm looking now, but it doesn't say anything about drivers for it.

Why not just re-install Vista?

If it came on your machine when you bought it, you should have the disc, and the serial number, so there is another option.

If you are going to say, like most people, I dont have the disc, then go back to where you bought the computer, and ask for it, because if it is on your computer, then you have paid for a license for the OS in the price of the computer, and it is illegal for them to not supply you with the disc and serial.

Because it has some problems with ATI crap or something, I'm not really sure, but the disc that came with it does work, but it gets to 43% sprouts some funky error and shuts off.  Besides, from what I've been reading on this forum, I'd have proably more trouble with Vista.  Oh well, I wanted to play, but I guess it won't be possible.  :/  Thank you guys for trying to help out though.

PlaneShift has no problems with Vista, as long as you have the most recent drivers. I'm running the client on Vista just fine :]

Well, I still can't install Vista again, so I can't play.
