Title: Are you smart?
Post by: Waylander on July 24, 2007, 02:55:24 pm
No, you aren't :P

Anyways.  This here logic problem http://www.amfrontier.net/~bree/Einstein.html (http://www.amfrontier.net/~bree/Einstein.html) thinks that most of you can't do it.

I've already done it and, though it isn't the easiest problem in the world.  I've got more faith in people than Einstein seems to have had.
So, let's see how many people can do this.  Try it out, if you get it, please post.

I know it. And I managed to do it with the help of paper, a pen and scissors. :sorcerer:
Actually it's not that difficult if you do it that way...but if you try it without writing things down...well, I guess then Einstein would be right :P

I am just wondering if I am still smart if I had the correct answer but I enteret it in wrong? I will use one that is not a choice..instead of saying Ameriacan I said America

hehe leave it up to me mess this up! :P cute tho and a fun brain tease.

Ehmm, I don't wanna spoil this but... The answer giving in the page is wrong...
Nobody said the fifth pet was a fish, you may find the owner of the 'fifth pet' but you can't really be sure it's a fish :P  at least, that what we concluded after beer :P

@Aerianna: no, you have to write American, otherwise it's wrong.
Title: Re: Are you smart?
Post by: shorty13 on July 24, 2007, 05:28:00 pm
yea you have to write american even though it says to input the country, not nationality.

I got this with pen and paper.

As for the 2% thing, it is probably wrong, but think...Most elderly I believe won't be able to do it because they are old.  I don't think any young kids could figure it out.  Anyone without a decent education I don't believe will have the brain power to do it [save a couple drop outs who should have stayed in school].  Those punk people who graduated high-school with a 70 [mostly minorities] , or are on the same track, will probably just wave the test by and not even look at it.  There are those busy people who are always too stressed to take it, or spend more than 1 minute thinking about it.  There are always exceptions.  I'm just pointing out that there are many more people than you think that wouldn't be able to complete this successfullly.

quizes like that are fun... ;D Probably back in his day much harder to people
Now a days I think its easier so he'd have to switch up the numbers. 98% will get it and 2% won't. I doubt thats true though  :sweatdrop:

Oddly enough I just guessed the answer and I was right... Too bad that doesn't work on exams. :P

I looked at the nationalities, guessed and it was right. This is the 21st Century, we don't have time for thinking any more  X-/. I know I'm smart already because I knew what nationality Einstein originally was :P

Just used pen and paper to solve the riddle analythically :] Was a fun experience I must say.

A smart person doesn't need to take tests(only those who doubt they're smart take them), in fact a smart person will use intellectual capacity to achieve other more useful and productive goals on his/her everyday life instead of wasting time with tests.

A smart person is someone who is happy. If doing the test makes you happy then it is the smart thing to do ;)

*Frown* I need one of those grids for these. I can't get the order right on blank paper. Now I feel stupid XP I remember picking this one up before and giving up after half an hour that time too. Same reason I think.

With little patience and much time, everything is possible :]

I think most Americans would quit after a few minutes.  I think this test is more a determination test than a smarts test.

btw, 23 minutes.

I never really linked the riddle with being smart.  I just said that 98% of people are not supposed to be able to do.

The actual topic was answered in the first line of my post :P

And a simple "I couldn't do it" would have sufficed, Raleigh.

I didn't even waste my time to try and suceed on it, where did you assume from that I clicked on that link to the test at all?

then don't bother posting in the thread about it if you aren't going to take it.

true...good point.

Oh also, as someone else said, if Einstein did say this, it was a long time ago.  Since then, basic education is more advanced than it was back then, and more people go through school than they did back then.

I just posted a simple opinion about the taking tests overall, and that is it, mind your own business please.

You manage to think too much and too little at the same time, it's really quite fascinating.

And that's very true, Shorty, I'd still say it's much more than 2%.

Nice Quiz, took me half an hour at least. In my opinion the reason why many people wouldn't finish the test at all is frustration...

*Frown* I need one of those grids for these. I can't get the order right on blank paper. Now I feel stupid XP I remember picking this one up before and giving up after half an hour that time too. Same reason I think.

Want me to send over the grid I set up while solving the riddle?

btw. Raleigh: Are you being touchy or nosy? .O.

Again ;)

And that's the only thing I can think of, Cyl.  Sure there were a couple parts that weren't all that easy but, in the end, I think anybody could do it with the time.

I doubt Einstein had anything to do with it.  It isn't even a real test, it's a standard form of question.  They all have the same answer, and that answer is a process using logic and grids.

And a simple "I couldn't do it" would have sufficed, Raleigh.
Ouch!  Except that he can do it, he just doesn't see the point.:)

no she didn't as that's not the answer, the test doesn't even mention an American
Title: Re: Are you smart?

Actually "The American" is the super secret, mega genius answer. :P

I am just wondering if I am still smart if I had the correct answer but I enteret it in wrong? I will use one that is not a choice..instead of saying Ameriacan I said America

"*Note: Do not use the word "The" in your answer..Simply enter the country."

But, when you enter the country it says it's wrong, only the nationality works so, i guess you were just too "smart" for your own good ;)

P.S. I like the irony of someone creating a page with a "how smart are you quiz" and then mixing up country and nationality :P

Heh, I didn't actually put up the page, Marqsaynt.  All errors are...whoever's site I stumbled onto.

Nice to see your posts have resumed their useless nature, Zanzibar.  Did you do it?

That's why I wrote "someone" ;) If I had thought you had made the mistake do you think I would really have let you get away with just a "someone?" :P

I was thinking back and I think I did this or a variation of this puzzle in a class i took once... and as i recall, probably around 80% of the students were able to get it as long as they had a matrix to solve it with. So, I think the 2% may be just a -tiny- bit low.

edit:

And just for people who didn't get their fill from the first puzzle, more puzzles! With pre-made grids and everything. http://www.puzzlersparadise.com/page1034.html (http://www.puzzlersparadise.com/page1034.html)

Love you, too, mini-me.

Stumbling (http://www.stumbleupon.com/) with the puzzle topic is what I do to find new puzzles when I'm feeling bored.  Not to put down the site, just, if you ever feel like looking for something new.
