Some of you have known this for a long time, some of you might not know, but I am leaving for boot camp on the 30th. Now, I'll be actually leaving for MEPS (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Military_Entrance_Processing_Command) on the 29th, and though I'll most likely get a chance to check in with you guys again I've been fairly busy as of late, so here it goes.
I've never been good at introductions or goodbyes so I'll just tell you where I'll be and what I'll be doing for the next year or so...
For the first 13 weeks I will be in Marine Corps boot camp. Yes, that's the one that the politicians haven't managed to ruin yet. I think you all know what that entails so no links required, but it will be taking place at MCRD (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MCRD) San Diego.
The next step will the the Marine Corps School of Infantry (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Marine_Corps_School_of_Infantry#School_of_Infantry_.28SOI.29) which lasts 52 days.
After this the path becomes a bit sketchy, I am in what is called the UZ program, meaning I am guaranteed a shot at Reconnaissance so long as I meet the requirements. At this point I will either go Force Recon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Force_Recon) or be assigned to a Marine Recon Battalion (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marine_Recon_Battalions). To explain the difference in short, Force Recon is roughly analogous to the Navy SEALs while Battalion level is closer to that of the Army Rangers.
To make a long story short, I'll drop by in 3 months on my one week leave... after that, we'll see.

Good luck!

Ooooooh boot camp in August... get ready for 90 degree weather and if you head out to twenty nine palms... 120... Trust me, you will feel it, them quanset huts ain't much for insulation. Well at least its dry heat and you're not heading to NC and that god awful humidity.

Really is a pity to see you off, John, but it's nice to see it's for a decent reason. Best of luck with Force Recon!

It's been a pleasure to roleplay with you, I learned quite a few things from it and that's a gift that can hardly be payed back.
Best of luck in your new assignment, this time out of PS \o/

Good luck to you in life, and do check back with us when you can, I will miss you on IRC too and in game, you were a fantasic roleplayer and I too learned lots from you and I am saddend that I can't learn more, Thank you however for you service to our country, and if you get deployed we will all write you tons of letters so you wont foget us :D My sister has joined the USAF shortly out of High School and has enjoyed all of her experiences and is currently stationed in Germany for two years and she did two years there a bout two years ago but this time she is at the other base. she also did a year in afganisant, and has come back with a whole new outlook on life. One thing I would say joining in the offices you will get to see the world, and that in its self would be pretty cool. Take care John, you will be missed greaty.
