it won't let me attack anything not even rats  :o

If you are getting a "NPC is impervious to attack" message, that means NPCclient (which handles all NPC actions) is down at the moment - if that's the case, it'll return shortly.

If you're not getting that message and something else is preventing you from attacking, you'll have to give us more details.

As of this post the NPC client is back up and running.  :D
