Title: Spam
Post by: sesmi on August 15, 2007, 12:37:07 am
I think it should come to your attention that celina_am6@yahoo.fr is harvesting emails from this site to perpetrate the nigerian scam.

by having your email public in your profile page, you run the risk of web crawlers finding it and adding it to their spam lists.  nothing we can do about that.

mine is public so that people can contact me, if they need something and are unable to PM me.  nice thing about gmail is that it all goes to the spam folder automatically and I never have to deal with it.  :)

Because he stated so.

Whoa, is this like the skeptic capital of the internet? You're bordering on existentialist.  ::|

Hardly, two people have asked "How are you sure?" and that's something that I consider necessary information. If you have your email address public, you are going to receive spam. It's a fact of the internet, a way of online life. That user has no account on this forum either, so I'm not sure what we can do.

Look, I was just tryng to being helpful. I figured if this person had an account, it could be deleted. However, I was simply treated very rudely.

No you weren't.

Caarrie was simply asking whether you were sure that it was from this forum and how you knew it wasn't from somewhere else, assuming your email is somewhere else.

I'm sure she's sorry about the misunderstanding.

You're seriously overreacting. You made a statement and we asked how you were sure. It's really not something to get so hung up about.
