Hi!
For a quest, I need 2 steel stock. Someone told me what raw material I needed to make it, but told me I needed metallurgy to make it. Now, I can train metallurgy, but I don't think I can practise it to get the first skill level. :oops: So, is there any way I can get metallurgy or do I have to ask other players to make the steel stock for me?
Note that I cannot carry enough material to make 2 steel stock, so I would have to find someone to make me one, then go mine again to get the raw material to make another and I would probably need to find someone else to make the second steel stock. On the other hand, most players in this game seem friendly, so it may not be too difficult to find someone to do it.

yay, that truly is an issue I know from the past.
having that quest in pockets and training for weeks ... ;-) (not complaining at all)
If you want, we can meet tonight and I make those two stocks for you (or exchange them if you give me the raw-material)
I'm usually online latest 20:00 GMT (21:00 my time) - just give me a /tell.

Of course you can practice metallurgy from zero skill - though you can't expect to be able to start by making steel right away. IIRC you need at least a skill of five (hope this doesn't count as a spoiler). You might try starting by smelting iron first....
Sure, you can just ask someone to smelt the two steel stock if all you want to do is finish the quest. If you wish to use the skills you gain by finishing the quest however (I'm guessing this IS the quest you get from one of the smiths, right?), chances are, you'll need metallurgy to smelt your raw materials anyway.
So spend quite some time training you metallurgy until you can complete your quest or ask someone for help so you can finish your quest now and train your skills later - the choice is yours...
Oh - and on a side note, you might wish to train your strength sometime if you decide to stay in this business - certain items require quite a lot of steel...

I will probably ask someone to make the steel stock to complete the quest first, but it is good to know.
Now, if I can only get some progression points, I might be able to train metallurgy. I hope the gods stop protecting all creatures against harm sometime soon (AI down again).
Unfortunately, 20:00 GMT is 1:00 for the east coast and I don't usually play until 1am, but thanks for the offer Tolol.

You can smelt it but you won't be able to cast it. find yourself a buddy that's past level 5 in metallurgy but not above level 10, then you both can practice, as you smelt then trade to him the smelted ore, he can then cast and trade the iron ingots, you should be able to reach level 5 in no time. Though you will need the PP to train. Once you can cast for yourself resmelting and casting to level 10 is not too bad, then once at level 10 you can cast iron/steel stock and combine iron and coal in the furnace. If you aquire enough PP and money train your strength stat so you can carry a larger load of ore.
BTW, i did not see you mention it, the metallurgy skill needs a book too. If you don't have it, you might want to start with that quest.
