Title: [GUILD] The Independent Informer
Post by: Aleor Girana on August 24, 2007, 01:33:55 am
The Independent Informer

A large and fresh piece of parchment has been pinned to a pole on Hydlaa Plaza. Even from a distance you can make out the title. Intrigued you move closer to what apparently is an announcement, you start to read.

“Greetings, noble citizens of Hydlaa!

The time when we relied on the octarchy to provide us with most needed information has finally passed. A small group of truth-seeking and honest citizens has taken up the task of informing the public of everything that goes on in our beautiful city.

To stress the importance of not being influenced by any civil party, we will call our newspaper “The Independent Informer”. May it always help those in need of information they are otherwisely kept from!

As a young corporation, we accept all the help that is offered to us. Current job openings are “Specials” to provide us with a steady flow of news and “Couriers” to spread the newspapers. Further we encourage everyone to take on the task of “Independent” and send us worthy news whenever you come across it.

Our first issue will arrive as soon as all the necessary resources have been acquired.

An Informed Day to all readers!

Aleor Girana,
Postmaster and co-founder of The Independent Informer.”

Below it you notice a small piece of parchment, you read it too.

I could see this working well with a wage system put in. Charge some money for it, pay each position their wage, etc. It might be hard to pull off, getting many many copies and such... Also would be nice to be able to lock a book or anything so only the author can edit it.

there are many different kinds of news papers in real life, as there should be in Yliakum.

I actually love the idea.

What's the other newspaper?
Wasnt it the "Herald"?

I like that idea, also having two competing papers.
Good luck and keep Yliakum's citizens updated!

Thank you for your replies!
Yes, there is another newspaper already, they started a few days before us I think. They're in their third edition.
I want to thank the leader of that newspaper, the Yliakum Herald, as he gave us the blueprints for the press.
And soon there will be a way to "lock" books so nobody can't just edit them as they like. The devs help us a lot :)

We really need personnel to make this possible so everyone who wants to help report to our website and contact us in-game.

With all respects... newspapers aren't medieval. The first newspapers were published, if I'm not wrong, in the 18th century. In the Middle Ages there wasn't even print (except in China and Korea) and all books were painfully hand-copied.

Medieval times also didn't have pipes in the sewers if I'm correct. I don't think everything in this game will be an exact copy of medieval times, just most of it. Besides I'm sure if this was agaisnt the settings then a gm or dev would point it out. However I don't think the settings will strictly only obey what was done in medieval times.  ;D At least I think it won't.....

Hi everybody,

I'm the editor of the Yliakum Herald. Best of luck to the Independent Informer! I'm glad to see another newspaper appear, this proves that the concept was a good idea. Business is great for the Herald, and we're building our readership and network of contributors and sponsors, so beware, competition for the Informer will be stiff  ;D

As for the "lock book" feature, I find I never need it for two reasons: firstly, people often contribute stories by adding them at the end of the copies they return, and secondly, when I get a book back, I simply reprint it over to be sure, especially since I'm often asked to reprint previous editions.

Take care!

You are right... but I think Minoan Crete had piping for running water and disposal, not sure of the details but they were very advanced in that particular aspect. But yes, you are right that the sewers are quite modern... not really medieval at all.

It was just a comment anyhow. I'm ok with the newspaper.

Thanks Giraut, and we will be ready for your competition ;)
Maju: You are right, Minoan priests even had showers available.
