Hello,
<start rant> This game went from working in 0.3.016 to buggy in 0.3.018 to completely unplayable in 0.3.019. <end rant>
Anyhoo, here is my problem. I can load the login screen, but then once I select the character and click join the game hangs and after 3-5 minutes the game's process is killed by the system for consuming too much memory.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Here is an image of what the system does after this game hangs and attempts to consume too much memory.

how much memory do you have in your computer?

I have 512 MBs, with an integrated video card that I believe consumes 32 MBs

I think you dont have a good enough video card and you need more system memory for a start but dont quote me on this.

I have a very similar configuration on the laptop but it works. Yes, it's a memory hog and yes, due to lack of drivers(module) from Intel it works like crap, but it works.
If you have a different video card than mine(GMA900 or something), you may not experience this kind of issue. Recommendation - either find an updated driver for your video card or... wait. PS has a lot of memory leaks and I've seen that throughout the releases, on various machines. I'm not sure what triggers them but it's not unheard of... and they are being fixed when identified.
Check your memory usage in a console when loading PS, with free -m from time to time and if it goes sky-high till it breaks, you have your answer. But then again, the error you receive is already very much on that track.

Nah, I think I'll quit this game. It's pretty slow, considering that I can run open arena at a high resolution and it flies. This game tends to crawl. Considering that I have a 3Ghz, 512MB ram, with an intel 915 integrated video card, this game should work fine, but it doesn't. Oh well, it's not a big deal. I wish best of luck to the developers and the community.
Good bye.

An Intel integrated chipset is below the minimum requirements for the game, actually. You might be able to run the game, but it won't be an enjoyable experience as you noticed. An integrated chipset isn't a high spec at all, and games rely on graphics cards quite a bit.

i was using an onboard 32mb when i first started playing and it wouldnt start up for me when i tried. so i went to startmenu>programs>planeshift>planshift settings
at the bottom right it says like polygon downsample or something like that.. i move that all the way to 1/16 or so and take out sound, and fiddle with the antriscopy things. everything becomes much more like an episode of gumby but it runs alot better, and takes away alot of lag.
it makes the game look real cartoony but hey it works.
