Is there going to be any work done on two-handed weapons for PS? I was just wondering because I laugh, shrug and walk away from all the characters I see running around with a claymore (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claymore) in each hand (I especially laugh at the dwarves with a claymore in each hand). It wouldn’t even be possible to use a claymore in one hand and a dagger in the other, claymores are just too large to wield with one hand for more than one or two swings. Perhaps Kran are large enough to do it but it’s unlikely due to the length of the blade itself (over 40 inches). Two of these 4’ 6” (overall) swords would just get in the way of each other. Hell, it would be a neat trick to be able to wield two long and or broad swords at the same time, but being a fantasy game it can slide, (Claymores shouldn’t !)
I find it ironic that a character with a strength of 85 cant wield a single spidersilk broadsword <(with a name like ‘spider-silk’, you’d think it would be light) but can wield two claymores without a problem.
Maybe there is a way to block out the shield/off handed weapon slot while weapons labeled as two-handed are being used. Slow these two-handed weapons down a notch and add an extra point or two to damage. That’s what two-handed weapons were about, no finesse but extra power because of the weight and the fact that two arms instead of one are being used.
Or perhaps add these two-handed weapons to the pole-arms list?
Just a thought... :whistling:

hey thats funny coneitic has no problem wielding one with his tail. they cant be that heavy...
-
Not a bad idea. Personally, I feel like alot of new realism systems should be in development. Coneitic, can you seriously wield it with your tail?
-
This is something the engine and art teams will look into at a later time, for sure. I would really like the characters' stances to change based on what weapon they hold, as well as their attack animations and how the weapons are wielded. Unfortunately this is a lot of work at the moment (we have to fill in missing default and emote animations before moving on), but it will be done in time.

I would just like to point out that according to the settings dept Enkidukai tails are not prehensile at most they can wag a bit certainly not pick up a sword
-
/me ties a dagger on Coneitic's tail using sticky ribbons.
Do you know martial art movies with deadly plait swinging fighters? ;)
Sorry, very OT.
-
Very true, Mordraugion, an Enkidukai's tail would be no more prehensile than any normal cat's tail here. Weel maybe a teensy bit more (a bit more evolved :D) but it is still only for .... balance and very tied to the Enkidukai's emotional state. If what you've said about the settings is so, however, Mord...I think that feels a little like an end-run around giving any sort of detailed description; just sort of 'here is what it can do, based on this is all it does'. *shrugs* I still love my tail and Enkidukai are the coolest! :D

:p I suppose it was a bit blunt Shauri, IIRC it was a direct quote from Xillix who shall no doubt slap me if I'm wrong ;) and of course my tail does all sorts according to my mood

As for the art, thats just eye candy and has all the time in the world to improve, but why can't the engine team make it so the shield hand is blocked? The same can be said for battle axes and some of those new mace/hammers, with any other present and future weapon that is supposed to be two handed also benefitting. It is something that will eventually be needed for implementation but it isn't as hard as the corresponding Art.
And not just weapons, but other equipment like Rock Picks.

i did reverse pushups with my tail when i was out of town for months. its very strong now. started curling bags of tria and moved on to daggers, then ore, then swords now a claymore.

We should have monkeymen then. And those aquatic reptiles, we have now, should get T-Rex type tails so they can use it as a third leg or tail whip others. maybe have to species one with wings and the other with tails. And I for one will also like a flying Monkey.

Hello!
This is getting more and more off-topic. ::)
I want to second the approach of "blocking" the other hand if a weapon is too big to be wielded one handed or cannot be used with another weapon in the other hand. This shouldn't involve too much coding and not a single change in the art department.
But may I still remind everyone that there are more urgent things to change before something special is to be done to combat or weapons.
With kind regards
Kaityra

ouch.... i figured sense there are muscles in enki's tails they could be strengthend like any muscle but i guess thats impossible. either way everyone forgets that yliakum isnt the real world, and you should be able to compare settings and rules with other games. if the devs try to make the game have rules like other games.. such as claymores only being used in two hands and not one then thats just like every other game.
but hey whats more realistic than a klyros that can fly and breath underwater..... thats not far fetched at all.
-
It would be interesting to have greatswords or katanas (maybe even sithers)...
but this game is well done, especially in comparison to the laughable cheap runescape, which actually features a pay-to-play membership at five dollars a month ;D
-
hey i play runescape ^^ check my cool amour

Thats like it is in real actually. Try to write something smart next time x)
