Title: Now this is really unfair...
Post by: Everon on September 03, 2007, 11:20:50 am
I think I have written about how much I need winch access now... Now it's even MORE necessary.

I tried to get in by the light way: Just got 2 quests at the same time, they didn't have the same NPC, BUT got blocked, both... so good bye light way.

I tried to get in by the dark way: Got only 1 quest... but when Zak asked me about a Carrion Crawler Larvae, I got bored and leave the quest... I tried to answer him a pair of weeks after that... and nothing, quest blocked. I didn't get any quest in that time.

And now, with plate mail armor released, I've been told that from level 10 to level 50 I need winch access... I'd really like to get access some way... but I had to discard many quests because they got blocked for nothing. Now what can I do, buying plate mail to improve my looks and train it to level 10? or staying with my level 30 boring chain mail armor??

I just receive a reply saying you are working on that... I really thank that, but until it's fixed, can't you help in any way? Because seems it's taking too long.

(Tried to be as polite as possible, english isn't my main language, so sorry if I seemed rude)

If anyone ever found that one -- please shout "Me!"...

Very few have found it because very few have looked for it, relying instead on the tried and true. Why bother finding the third way when people can tell you exactly how to get the other two ways?

There are several in-game hints about how to get the third way, and one person who tells you directly who gives the quest. Note that that's more than most quests give you.

Quests are idiotic for characters who don't feel like going around fetching stuff for a random person. A way of getting to the winch that would not have a character drop down to the dog level would be nice. Not insulting anyone's chars.

However I do not think the current means are unfair, considering that the only important things within have to do with leveling and power levelers are, indeed, quite canine.

I don't know.  Roleplayers seem to think they are not allowed to level.  It's something I've always found confusing.

It's almost against the settings to never fight.  Each and every one of you were made to play-fight while you grew up.  You would be encouraged to fight beasts when you grew up.

You shouldn't level fast, but you should level over time.

And with that most quests would become quite easy to do.

Who says that we were all made to play-fight?

The law./me points at Jayose's Librams and Codexes

Male, Female and Kran children shall be made to fight with sticks and throw stones at targets from the earliest age that they can do so.  Our world is harsh and citizens of the Octarchy must be more so.

Found the quote for ya

PS:  My character doesn't come from Yliakum ->  You went through the stone labyrinths.  I'm pretty sure you would have learned the usage of fighting in those dangerous places.

My character had no parents, and no one to 'force' him to do anything :/ Naturally, he still ended up fighting cause he got his butt kicked once by thugs, but...

...

I'm of the opinion that if you are an orphaned child in Yliakum one of both of the following things will happen:

1) You'll steal and end up banished and dead.
2) You'll learn that you have to fight.

I don't feel like I am not allowed to train skills. I did so when I started, before I went to roleplaying. And I rarely still do.

It is just that

I can't believe how many people are still able to raise their chars to a state that they appear "impossible to defeat" to me. So if a fight was not planned in advance, I would never duel in a roleplay and hope to win. My previous old hardware made it impossible for me to learn fighting tactics. This I leave to those who were able to train fighting not only in game, but also with the input devices.

My own character has Charisma and Int fitting of his position. He's not a skilled fighter because in the mean time he got better things to do, but he can fend off against a rogue or trepor. In fact, everyone I roleplay with (usually within the Empire, but often outside as well) roleplays and trains their skills simultaneously. Sangwa must be the one getting less training, but his concerns are many. You don't see NPCs moving towards the arena from time to time, or at trainers, do you? Shouldn't they be training? I guess they know how to fight already.

I also disagree that it is against the setting not to fight. It's against the law. Those are two different things. Parents might have wanted their child never to worry with battle. Or a person, as it grows, might have chosen not to improve its fighting skills any further. Your character always comes into play with the ability to fight and to kill a rat with a sword. That's something already. It's its choice to improve it or not.

Training from childhood would allow you to kill more than a rat :P

And I can see guildleaders and those who have a very busy life falling out of practice but, all the same, the fact is there:  You fought as a child.  Most of you would still train now.

And you don't see NPCs moving ;)

Nope.  The point is that he percieves problems with the quest system.
