I'm having trouble installing something and I think the problem is I have an outdated or corrupt version of the windows installer. The thing is that microsoft's site is such a mess that I don't know if I just couldn't find the download I need or if the download isn't there to be found. Does someone have the time and patience to look around for it for me?
This is the error I'm getting: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q247532/ The thing is, what they recomend is to update to service pack 2. I have no interest in doing that to this machine until after I clone it.

Is this (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/898715/EN-US/) what you're looking for?
Or maybe that's (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=5fbc5470-b259-4733-a914-a956122e08e8&DisplayLang=en) more it?

Thanks! I did one better and got Windows Installer 3.1 Redistributable (v2), but it didn't solve the problem.:(

Well...you know...maybe you should do what they say...
What's wrong with installing SP2?

Microsoft recently upgraded their service to a (more or less) package oriented installer system, using *.msu files in the future. You may only receive this one via online update, and probably only on valid legal systems... Just this week, I let an "Offline Update" application collect all current security related packages, and still the Online Updater recommended vital packages to be downloaded.

There's a chance that the SP2 installation can go wrong with the end result of all your documents being deleted. I plan to clone this machine at some point and after that I'll be comfortable installing SP2. Until then, no freaking way.

Have you tried a registry fixer ? There are many good free ones out there that just might do the trick for ya ;)

Is it the mdac (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6c050fe3-c795-4b7d-b037-185d0506396c&DisplayLang=en) you want?
This download is available to customers running genuine Microsoft Windows. Please click the Continue button to begin Windows validation. As described in our privacy statement, Microsoft will not use the information collected during validation to identify or contact you.
It is possible that it is part of SP2 but that is just speculation.

I have no idea.
