Title: "Ale for Tales" Tavern Tales and songs.
Post by: jaycol on September 14, 2007, 01:35:39 am
Due to a temporary setback to our Thursday "Ale for Tales" event, I opened this thread. I have heard many tales and songs in game and I feel many are rather good and should be shared. Not to mention the fact that it helps to expand one's creativity. If you have a short Tavern tale to tell or a song to share. Lets hear it. I would hate to see a good thing lost in the PS files of a few players who may one day move on. When they can be shared to inspire another, and enjoyed by others.

/me smiles and steps up

"There once was miner,
referred to as weird,
because of his unnaturally long red beard,
he said he cared not a bit,
and mined through the years,
though sometimes the comments,
would draw a few tears,
though one day this miner,
beard unnaturally long,
was busily mining,
when he heard a song,
he looked up and gasped,
as he blinked his wide eyes,
for there standing tall,
was a monstrous surprise,
a bloodthirsty Ulbernaut,
a claw to his chest,
was singing his heart out,
he bested the best,
then our dear friend the miner,
he looked all around,
and heard yet another familiar sound,
the miners were laughing,
at this fearsome beast,
and our red bearded miner,
liked this not in the least,
so he dropped down his pick,
and greeted the monster,
he told him of his past,
and vowed it should go on no longer,
together they teamed,
and scattered the crowd,
then the Ulbernaut turned,
and to our miner he bowed,
and that is my tale,
for happily they lived on,
the ulbernaut and the miner,
together in song"

   A Maiden's Tear

"A maiden shed a single tear
her love was off to war
T'was for his life, that she did fear
As the tear fell towards the floor"

"Been, but a day since they been wed
      when the urgent callin' came
he was picked among the rest
Fore, as of age he came"

"The night before their love was filled
       fear in the shadows hid
her beatin' heart could not be stilled
as he kissed her wantin' lips"

"Now she is here, alone to dwell
      within' the battles sight
It raged on outside the walls
      an' long into the night"

"In sudden pain her heart had stopped
She had fallin' to her knees
she knew her lover's body dropped
      among those in melee"

"Her tear it fell to open palm
      it never reached the ground
before her stood a figure calm
      Oh! great Talad lookin' down"

"He closed hand around her tear
      aglow with crystal light
reachin' out he quenched her fear
      she bathed within his might"

"A smile passed upon his lips
she felt stir within her womb
She clenched the gift that he did give
      her warrior had come home"

   Among the Crowd

"Together they mixed among the crowd,
a gathering joined within a cloud,
to act upon a cause that's just,
the argument was put to rest,
no challenge left among the dead.
       Where victor's stood,
       "we're Just" they said.
       But, in the silence,
       some doubt was left."

/me applauds and buys Jaycol an ale

"The darkness fell complete and still
The night the cutthroats came
They stole among the shadowed halls
To threaten and to maim"

"She watched them come through tear filled lids
And clung to her bag of gold
Her husband had given it to her
A ring hid in its folds"

"In it was laid a ruby
Sweeter than any prose
Her husband had given it to her
Because she was his rose"

"He had gone away to the next town
Only the night before
She feared he would return too late
The man that she adored"

"She hid her bag close to her breast
And a tiny dagger drew
She grimly clung to its cold steel
They were coming, this she knew"

"They finally entered her small house
And were heard upon the stair
She hid inside the closet
Fear upon her cheeks so fair"

"Twas not long before they found her
And dragged her to her feet
She slashed at them with her dagger
But none, their end did meet"

"They took one glance at her fair face
And ran her through with sword
She gasped, her world began to fade
As downstairs approached her Lord"

"He climbed the stairs like one posessed
And battled to her side
Yet once he slew the many men
He bent his head and cried"

"She lay upon the floor so still
Her hair to her face did cling
In her right hand lay the dagger
Upon her left there lay the ring"

"He roared his mighty anguish
And tears betrayed his living hell
He drew his silver broadsword
And upon its length he fell"

"Their house burned down that very night
And melted into soot
Yet from the coals a great tree sprung
With roses at its foot"

  Come's a Maiden Dancing

  " Comes a maiden dancing,
        behold the love,
        that gleams in her eyes,
        as she spins,
        swirling, swirling,"

      "no music is heard,
she dances only to the beat of her heart,
flushing the color to her lips,
       making her face aglow,
       a smile of such warmth,
       as she spins,
       swirling, swirling,"

      "comes a maiden dancing,
       love has found her heart,
       and she knows it,
       so she shows it,
       her joy is shared,
       displayed in her movements,
       as she spins,
       swirling, swirling,"

      "her breasts heave,
       as she draws breath,
       her hair streaming,
       as she spins,
       swirling, swirling."

Ok heres a story for ya

There once was a Ylian named...well actuallly i cant remember his name, but thats not important anyways. So anyways there was this Ylian and he was not the brightest lad to ever walk the streets of Hydlaa. He was a heavyset sort of guy, and was best suited to mindless tasks such as mining, or tossing rocks. One day he was lifting a particularily heavy rock to toss off a cliff (why he was doing this i havent the faintest clue) when something caught his eye. A faint gleam had appeared on the horizon and then vanished, just as suddenly as it had appeared. Now, being rather dense, our friend the Ylian was immediately fascinated by the shiny light (not surprisingly) and after several minutes contemplation, decided to try to find it. He traveled over several mountains and through a lake or two (or possibly three, its hard to say), before he finally reached the point that to his best knowledge, the ight had appeared from. Well he looked around for a bit and finding nothing, decided to leave. Just as he was turning, he saw the gleam again and this time he saw where it was. It was a small shiny piece of what looked like metal and it was hanging from a very shaggy looking bush. He walked over and tugged on it a couple times (simoltaneously wondering why there were load roars of anger piercing the air). Well finally he pulled it free and discovered to his dismay that he was holding a dagger in his hands. He puzzled over this new development for several minutes and he just might have figured out what it was doing there when suddenly the shaggy bush sat down and our poor Ylian was smooshed. The angry Tefusang stood back up and turned several times, trying to figure out what happened...not noticing the flattened figure on the ground, it turned and trotted back into the woods...

"Oh what a sight that i have seen
My heart it beats
My head it spins

"A Warrior so brave and true
He fights for me
He dies for me

Two hearts in love

  Another Chore

"I loved you, or so I thought,
you loved or so you said,
      our love was only physical,
like the making of a bed,
      another chore needed done,"

     "A moment's passion,
       a holiday meal,
       tender caress's,
       compliments of preparation,
       our love being stated,
       the table is cleared,
       another chore needed done,

      "like laundry to be hidden,
       disregarded out of sight,
       piling up until it's needed,
       until time can be made,
       to perform out of necessity,
       another chore completed."

  Everything in you

   " Loving you was everything,
       I've ever wanted to do,
there's nothing else to live for,
       I have everything in you."

     " Inside your embrace,
       the dreams fade away,
       disappearing in the mist,
       no wishes to be made."

     " I watch you sometimes,
       with a child's expectations,
        breathless from the view,
        seeing beyond imagination."

     " Tomorrow brings another dream,
on the moment that I wake,
hearing your heart beat next to me,
        and every breath you take."

" I can feel you near me,
       no matter where you are,
knowing always that you will be,
       the beating of my heart."

That day i took a mighty leap
From the Eagles Head so tall
I vowed that i would do it
And not be scared at all

The initial jump was thrilling
And through the air i flew
Though as the rocks approached me
I saw impending doom

Though i guess that luck was on my side
For my end was not that day
My shirt caught on a jagged rock
And through the air i swayed

I climbed back up to Eagles Head
My eyes shining bright and true
For i knew nothing would compare
To that afternoon i flew

[I love short stories..]

Once there was a grumpy old dwarf that loved to make money. Out of ever dwarf in his village he was the greediest of the village. Every day and every night he would mine gold and make tria.

That was his life.
He had no lady dwarf for his wife.
Never ate with sugar, only spice.
And was never ever nice.

Then one day he met a curious young Xacha. The Xacha stared at him day after day, and for a while the dwarf ignored him until one day he had to ask, "Why don't you do something else?" The Xacha, with foolish curiosity, asked "Sir dwarf why do you dig all the day and all the night? Don't you have something else to do?" The dwarf grumply answered,

This is my life.
I have no lady for my wife.
I hate sugar, only use spice.
And I hate being nice.

After that the dwarf returned to digging and for a while the Xacha left him alone. Then one day he came back and said to the dwarf, "Sir I think I've found an answer to all your problems." The dwarf laughed but turned around and said, "Go ahead. Humor me." The Xacha nodded then spoke,

I have found you a life.
A lady waits in your house to be your wife.
She carries a sack of sugar and threw away your spice.
So now you have no choice but to be nice.

Well of course Mr. Dwarf wasn't too happy about this young Xacha trying to help him. So he responed,

Go find another a life.
That lady won't last a week being my wife.
I hate sugar which is why I use spice.
And its people like you that keep me from being nice.

Moral of the story, never talk to a dwarf thats not drunk.

     One with the Rock

" I been digging dat rock,
since the day I was born,
       I'll be digging dat rock,
       long after I'm gone."

" Momma says ain't no reason to be dead,
when ye one with the rock."

" the day be too bright,
       when the light shines down,
       a dwarf was meant,
       to be underground."

" Momma said ain't no reason to be dead,
when ye one with the rock."

/me claps for everyone

"There once was a mighty fisherman,
whose line flew right and true,
he traveled all across the land,
seeking fish anew"

"One foggy day he set his line,
and left it out to wait,
he hoped to catch a fish or two
whilst he sought out more bait"

"Quite sadly for our fisherman,
his little line was lost,
a giant fish took hold of it,
and round and round it tossed"

"Our fisherman ran back to find,
his line run to the deep,
so he took a giant breath,
and dived in, his line to seek"

"He found the fish and caught him 'round,
his slimy scaly waist,
he swam back to the surface
with most unnatural haste"

"Once on the land he huffed puffed,
yet no matter how hard he'd try,
he could not unhook the mighty fish,
who promptly spit him in the eye"

"The fisherman he stood up quick
and he let out a mighty roar,
and now at least as far's i know,
he dont like to fish no more"

Dwarves...

Tis a curious creature these
that often one meets with ease.
Loyal and true without a doubt,
yet prone to fights long drawn out.
Rest they will with ale a plenty
then work hard to serve the many.
Argue and bicker with friend and foe,
But trustworthy their friends well know.
should you happen a friend to keep
that is a dwarf, of which I speak.
A good friend you'll no doubt have,
but they will drive you truly mad!

Gold...

Gold is a good thing I am told,
But it seems make people very bold.
They think that money will get them by
If they buy low and then sell high.
But a warning to those that think this way
A storm is coming and woe be the day.
When money is scarce and pockets are tight
And people stretch tria with all of their might.
Then what will you do with no one to buy?
You'll sit in your house and wail and cry!

/me looks up from his mug. the smell of cirtus, cinammon, nutmeg, and potent alcohol waft up. he sings in a deep voice that seems to fill the room, hiding where he is sitting.

I played in a field,
the grass as tall as I.
Tale said it was the abode of a demon.
A demon who stood,
between light and dark.
A demon who danced.
Danced while those around him died.
At the field's heart I played.
I played among sticks of white.
I played among sticks of brown.
There at the heart I found stone,
no stone upon stone.
There I found in written in black,
black upon stone.

The demon did not call us,
we came.
The demon bid us go,
we stayed.
He promised us death,
we fought for life.
Through fire, we stood by him.
Into hell, we followed him.
We were his because...
We were his because,
behind us there were
those who should not be
what we were.

* steuben's last word echoes before fading away.
for those who stood.
/me  raises his mug in salute, and turns back to its contemplation.

While digging Gold

While digging gold out in the mine,
 swingin' pick and keepin' time,
when voice yelled out ta say,
" Stonebreaker don't look at me that way."
"I do not like that what you do."
' For I am much to old for you.'
I stopped my swing, with shocked surprise.
to look into the lass's eye's.
'T'was not me" I said,
it must have been the other lad.
"Hammerwielder,  you seen some days,
I think I got you on the age."
"To me ye still look young,
I believe I dated ye Grand Mom."
to this she was a taken back,
as she turned around ta swing her pick.
"Your much to old for me" she said.
Then around the rock she went an' hid.
 I laughed aloud, feelin' bold,
then went about ta diggin' gold.
Ye could see the meaness in her eye,
but, still she had ta say good-bye,
Though I was busy on that day,
I stopped to watch her walk away.

   One Morning

"One mornin' I went a walkin'
         An' while travelin' I saw,
         a pretty young maiden singin',
         while sittin' upon a wall."

" A basket full of flowers,
         lay beneath her feet,
         an array of many colors,
         she weaved into a wreath."

""To wear for my true love,"
she turned towards me and said,
the biggest smile crossed her face,
" On the day that we are wed.""

"Then as to express it's purpose,
she placed it on her head,
but, before she said another word,
         the lass fell over dead."

"This is not a good way,
         to myself, I thought,
to begin so early in the day,
so down the road I trot."

"At home, I sat to ponder,
        about the odd event,
'till I could sit no longer,
an' I grabbed me hat an' went."

"At noon, I went a walking,
        while traveling, I saw,
        a pretty dead young maiden,
        lying' by a wall,"

        "A basket full of flowers,
were spilled out by her feet,
          spread out all about her,
          many colors you could see."

"The wreath that she'd been weavin',
          was pinned beneath her head,
it will not fare, her true love well,
to find out that she's dead."

        "When without a warnin',
she sprung up to her feet,
as she left off this mornin'
is where she began to speak."

"She went on about all her plans,
          an' left nothin' go untold,
          it seemed she'd talk forever,
or at least till we grew old."

"As she gathered all the flowers,
that spewed out on the road,
she reached to pick the last one up,
          and turned into a toad."

"The day bodes not so well for me,
          I thought unto myself,
I rolled my eyes an' turned away,
an' walked back to my house."

"What an odd thing, this happening,
that happened to me this day,
an' as I tried to explain it to myself,
I didn't know what to say.'

' I gathered food up for my meal.
on the table, I set my place,
         an' couldn't stop from picturing.
The dead maid, lying on her face"

"Or how she sprung up to her feet,
          for this I almost died,
My heart it had missed a beat,
In truth, I do not lye."

"Then there is this toad thing,
          that seems particularly queer,
          the only thing that's missing,
is to have her prince appear."

"I blessed my meal, an' fed myself,
until I could eat no more,
after I had finished cleaning up,
came a knock upon the door."

" Of course we know who that would be."
           * wink, * wink

         "Another ale for me."

"One rainy, sodden, dreary day,
A knight bedecked in colors gay,
He rode through town and town alike
Through mud and muck, he bravely hiked"

"Just what he sought he only knew
He must trudge onward, through and through,
Though obstacles he sorely found,
Never once did he give ground"

"The people they all wished to know
What could make him press onward so,
Yet not a word would cross his lips,
His silence seemed to be endless"

"Yet one day as he seemed to finally break,
The loneliness his heart began to rake,
When one tiny hand lifted his chin
And he looked up into a perfect grin"

"Her eyes, those eyes he'd been longing for
The only eyes he would adore,
He'd found her, she that he had sought,
And now they'd never be apart"

lord bless Chalrie Mops the man who invented beer beer beer  tiddly beer beer beer

a sniff of moat, a spoon of hops you stir it up with your stick
The kind of lubrication, that makes your engines tick
thirty pints of this ale a day will keep away the quacks
It's only one mere Tria, and another five in tax

he must have been an admiral an octarch or a king
and to his praises we shall always sing
look what he has done for us, he filled us up with cheer
lord bless Chalrie Mops the man who invented beer beer beer  tiddly beer beer beer
beer beer beer  tiddly beer beer beer
beer beer beer  tiddly beer beer beer

Hey! The lord bless Charlie Mops!

Haha thanks Dihenis!/me tries to remember AP English
You meant Iambic Pentameter, but that is 10 sylables, what i used is only 8 so im not sure what that would be... /me shrugs  ;D

"THere once was a librarian
Who pondered scroll and book
He hovered in the library
and was often overlooked"

"He dreamed of knights and castles tall
Honor and Chivalry
And yet he never ventured out
His many dreams to seek"

"But then one day he heard a scream
And gingerly walked to the door
He poked his head outside a bit
And jumped at what he saw"

"A maiden fair and beautiful
Was clasped about her throat
She dangled from a massive arm
Belonging to an Ulbernaut"

"Now our hero the librarian
Was quaking in his shoes
But he grabbed a book o' Philosophy
And did the only thing he knew"

"He pleaded with the ulbernaut
Quoted Talad, Laanx and more
And eventually its eyes glazed over
And it let out a mighty snore"

"The maiden fair dropped to the ground
And squealed in delight
They ventured to the castle keep
And he was made a knight"

"The Ulbernaut was carted off
And never seen again
And now every Knight carries a book
Of Philosophy with them"

Its thursday....Ale for Tales....
/me misses Jaycol  :-\

"A crafty Kran he owned a shop
created swords and knives, the lot
He slaved over burning heat
Lightly tapping metal sheets"

"He never spoke 'cept in a deal
His prices were a total steal
Because he loved to shape and ply
Swords so fine, they'd make you cry"

"He cared not a bit for nicer things
Not fancy clothes nor diamond rings
And no one could quite fancy why
Not a lady could catch his eye"

"Should someone try to tease and flirt
He would smile and return to work
He had a love above the rest
At which the world could only guess"

* Jaycol pops out of the void of blue death. He quivers as the chills still race through his body. He looks down at his mug of stale ale, picks it up and drinks it anyway. Hmmmm? "That was strange." He exclaims.

      A girl with big swords

"I met a girl elf with big swords,
who was smitin' down rogue's by the score,
         I soon followed suite,
an' we shared in the loot,
An' we killed them until we was bored."

       "Shapphires gleamed on her hilts,
as I looked at her legs fine as silk,
         her fair face was dashing,
         as her claymore's were slashing,
an' she smiled right after each kill."

"Then so came the end of the day,
we parted and went our own way,
         she wiggled while strollin',
         as I watched her goin'
an' wished I had asked her to stay."

[Sorry for the absence. My system had a meltdown, stiill working on it.]

Jaycol raises his empty mug up the Eagle gobble sitting on the rock by the river. "Well, I be off now ta Oja ta get me's a chaser."

"I once heard an Ulber Grrrr!,
I looked up an' saw nothin' but fur,
        large teeth in his maw,
        an' very long claws,
his presence it caused quite a stir."

"I met him on up at the mine,
he chased me around for a time,
an' just when I had 'im,
        his brother did join 'im,
an' cut short this good tale of mine."

"Hahahahaaha!" Jaycol laughs as he sets about his way.

       * Jaycol yells out to Brado. " Fill me up ye old Wratrat, an' clean that green stuff from me mug if ye would." He chugs down a mug of ale, and orders another. After taken a sip he begins singing a tavern song.

       Buy me an Ale

       "Oh! buy me an ale,
an' I'll tell ye a tale,
a couple, would make it less hard."

       "It'll lossen me tongue,
an' we'll all have some fun,
So, put up some trias on the bar."

"Oh! let the stories be told,
         about now, and old,
I'll try ta give ye me best."

       "So, fill up me mug,
        let's drink down some suds,
we'll just make up the rest."

       "Oh! buy me an ale,
an' I'll tell ye a tale,
a couple would make it less hard."

      "It'll loosen me tongue,
an' we'll all have some fun,
So, put up some trias on the bar."

"It be a fine price ta pay,
at the end of the day,
when ye thinkin', that life is a wretch."

       "So, don't mind the slurrs,
         between all the words,
         they'll, not make any sence."

       "Oh! buy me an ale,
an' I'll tell ye a tale,
a couple would make it less hard."

       "It'll loosen me tongue,
an' we'll all have some fun,
So, put up some trias on the bar."

*Jaycol finishes his ale and orders another. Brado frowns and taps the bar, "They will not be free from me, no matter how many times you sing to yourself."

*[working on it, may be awhile yet]

*Anumesa apologizes to Brado and pays for Jaycol's several ales*

Heres a story for ya
Once upon a time there was a Xacha...and she was probably the ugliest creature to ever walk the face of Yliakum. Now when i say ugly, i dont just mean that she was unnattactive, i mean that she was HIDEOUS, a nasty creature incapable of looking halfway decent even if she stood behind the prettiest person in Hydlaa. Of course you can probaby gather from this that she was a tad lonely....seeing as no one could stand to be around her for more than a few seconds. Even her parents made her wear a bag over her head when she sat at the dinner table (who knows how she managed to eat her food...). So anyways this Xacha, lets call her X, was a loner, always keeping to herself and rarely making any friends. Well X's favorite hobbie was flower arranging, she would create the most beautiful combinations of flowers, and was wildly popular as a designer for weddings....of course her clients only delt with her parents because they couldnt actually stand having business dealings with X. So one day, X was arranging a a particularly tricky design, when she heard a knock on the door. Well she immediately called for her parents to answer it...not wanting to scare the visitor away...but for some reason they were nowhere to be found. So X hesitantly walked to the door and cracked it open to see who was there. At first X didnt see anyone, she looked left and right and was about to close the door when she heart a "ahemm" from somewhere about her knees. She looked down at a tiny ancient dwarf, his face so lined and wrinkled it resembled a piece of dough that someone had beaten a few too many times. X cautiously opened the door to let in this tiny stranger, and immediately reached for her bag to put over her head. The dwarf cackled loudly "no need for that m'dear, these old eyes have seen far worse"...and X, slightly shocked, put the bag down.

The dwarf pulled a flask from one of his many pockets, and after offereing to X (who politely refused) he took a long sip and put it away with a sigh of satisfaction. X politely waited for him to explain himself, though he repulsed her even more every second.

/me stops talking and frowns...
"I cant believe it but i've forgotten the rest!!...Jaycol, care to finish?"

 * "Hahahahaha!"  Jaycol roars with laughter. " Nice."  He places a handful of circles on the bar. " Line'em up Brado, this may require some thought potions." He says laughing again.
 :@#\

Xacha waited, but still he offered no response. he just stood there rocking back and forth upon the balls of his feet. He would pause only long enough to take another sip  from his flask. She felt that she should ask him of his business. But, was affraid that he might notice her ugliness. Fearing he may have overlooked her, being that he was so old that his eyesight might be failing. The last thing she wanted to do was to frighten him off. He may have some important business with her father, or maybe another commission for her.
She shrugged and went back to her work. She needed to finish this arrangement soon if she wanted her full commmission for it. So consentrating on the task at hand, she tried very hard to ignor the repulsive dwarf as he stood there rocking, making the floorboards creak.  Just as she thought that she could take no more, he stopped.
Taking out his flask yet again, but this time indulging in a drink. She shivered as the fluid trickled down from the corners of his mouth. He finished with a load belch. replacing the cap and returning the flask to his pocket. Then he wiped his face on his shirt sleeve. Her face twised in agony as she looked upon him, and he just stood there staring at her.
Feeling the need again to ask him of his business, she cleared her throat. As she finally found the courage to address him, he reached into one of the other pockets of his coat producing a faded pipeflute. Worn in use, as his face was with age. Puzzled she leaned back into her chair. she watched as he blow across the ends of the pipes clearing them of debris. After a gentle tap of his fingertips he finally placed it to his lips. A long soft note filled the air. Xacha was taken aback at the sound so sweet, like a warm carressing breeze. It was followed by a slow relaxing melody. A smile crossed her face at the beauty of the sound that now filled the room.

  * Hmmmmm? Anumesa it seems I don't recall this story as much as I thought. Maybe ye could pick it up from there for me? Jaycol asks, nugging Anumesa with his elbow.

Proglin steps into Kada-el's and looks arround. The place is filled with laughter and people are chatting away happily. He scratches the back of his head and grabs a piece of parchment out of his inner pocket. After a few of his favourite "Mountain Range Dwarven Ale" he starts his sad little tale.

My wife, anyone seen her here?
It's been a while, since I've seen my dear
My wife, anyone seen her about?
I wonder where she hangs out.

My wife, tell her I'm looking
Gah, really do miss her cooking
My wife, tell her I miss her a bit
I miss her right now, right where I sit.

My wife... will this really take long?
Cause 2 more verses, and done is this song
my wife, you better dash back
cause i'm this close not to cut you some slack

my wife, speed up, come back fast
1 more verse and  it'll be the last
My wife, come back to me
Getting upset now, as upset as can be

My wife, bloody hell
this song is done as far I can tell
My wife, 5 more seconds to get in my bed
Otherwise it's off with your head.

/me desperately tries not to laugh at Proglin...but does anyways ;)

Alright Jaycol..here goes...

So the Xacha was hypnotized by the beautiful music coming from the tiny repulsive dwarf....after about 10 minutes she realized that she was no longer looking at a dwarf, but the most handsome man she had ever seen. She immediately swooped the bag back over her head with shame and attempted to leave the room..she was stopped by the handsome man who gently pulled the bag from her head and led her to a mirror. X was shocked at the face she was seeing..it did not being to her...but it DID!!! She looked at the handsome man, completely lost for words and he grinned "I had a spell set on me long ago, so that i would appear repulsive to everyone...Not until i could find someone who would tolerate me for more then 10 minutes would it be broken"..X was confused...what kind of spell was that anyways and why had it changed her as well?? But she didnt care because the handsome man was so handsome and she kept noticing the way his eyes twinkled when he smiled.....

Anyways long story short they lived happily ever after. THE END.

hehehe Jaycol i TOLD you i forgot the rest..... :P

         Lost at Sea

        "I listened to your voice,
every word that you were speaking,
         it's melody was soothing,
         your voice so gentle, sweeping."

       "As I listened,
         I wondered,
         what draws me so,
to be drowned in the depth's of your being."

        "Like the myths of Sirens,
         drawn over the edge,
never to return to my world,
         lost at sea."

"My soul devoured by the hunger,
         that is your desire,
         I throw myself without remorse,
         into your awaiting arms."

        "No terror will you see
         within my wanting eyes,
for, I will not feel harmed,
         your love is my demise."

        Cheers,Cheers

       "Cheers,Cheers,
        Bring us more ale,
        Our spirits be high,
        an' merry as hell."

       "Cheers, Cheers,
        Bring us more beer,
        we'll tip pretty good,
since, our heads are not clear."

       "Cheers, Cheers,
        bring us more wine,
        till we stagger and stumble,
an' fall one at a time."

       "Cheers, Cheers,
        bring another round,
        we'll drink till we drop,
        Ooops!  another one down."

       "Cheers, Cheers,
        bring one more to go,
        my friends are all out,
        I'll drink it alone."

"I wander and wonder
amid lightning and thunder
Where is the reason
What does it hide under?"

"So i wait and i whine
just to pass by the time
and compose a brand new
nonsensical rhyme"

"A who and a witch
a scratch and an itch
went for a walk
alone in a ditch"

"Oh they stank and they stunk
all the dreary and drunk
all those 'cept the passive
admirable monk"

"So close up and cry
and dont ask me why
This poem is done
toodles and bye"

  As Jaycol was singing, a young woman walks into Kada-el's. She walks over towards him and listens as he finishes his tune. Jayclol greets her,  and offers her an ale. She excepts his offer. After a couple sips she places the mug on the bar and begins to sing;

      Here in my Heart

        "Here I am,
         wondering, where you are.
         I miss you so,
         when we're apart.
         I'm not alone.
         whenever, I picture you,
         So,I keep you here,
         here, in my heart."

        "Here in my Heart,
         we're still together.

        "Here in my heart,
         your here with me now."

         "I know that I'll,
          never feel lonely."

        "So, I keep you here,
         Here, in my heart."

        "I'm filled with joy,
         whenever I see you.
         When I hear your voice,
         I'm happy, it's true.
         And, when you go,
I don't want to miss you.
         So, I keep you here.
         Here, in my heart."

        "Here in my heart,
         We're still together."

        "Here in my heart,
         your here with me now."

        "I know that I'll,
         never feel lonely."

        "So, I keep you here.
          Here, in my heart."

After she is finished she leaves as suddenly as she came. Jaycol places his empty mug on the bar and looks around the quieted tavern.  He picks up her mug.  "I hates it when they never finish their beer." He replies as he finishes her beer and orders another round.

Jaycol recalls a ballad he has heard from his travels, and tells the tale to the company within the tavern.

      The Thousand Stood Firm

       The morning fog clears,
       an' the sunlight shined through,
       dancing across assembled spears,
       The thousand stood firm.

       Standing as one, strong, fearless,
In single motion they moved together,
       each one at his best.
       The thousand stood firm.

       In duty dedicated,
       one to the other,
       in arms they are mated.
       The thousand stood firm.

       On hilltop they stood,
       like pillars of cold stone,
       still as they could.
       The thousand stood firm.

       As the great fog passed,
       coming clear on the plain,
       Ten thousand swords amassed.
       The thousand stood firm.

       Outnumbered in cause,
       A great battle comes,
       a day without pause.
       The thousand stood firm

From the mass came a roar,
a sound to chill the bones,
       hallowing to the core.
       The thousand stood firm.

       Another great cry,
       movement stirred from the plains,
       liquid to the eye.
       The thousand stood firm.

       With the dark hulk coming,
       a deep breath drawn,
       Heeding the Sergeant's warning.
       The thousand stood firm.

       Up the sloop they charged,
giving single face to the form,
       soon to be merged.
       The thousand stood firm.

       Shields raised a single wall,
       Spears dropping in unison.
       making the lead edges fall.
       The thousand stood firm.

       as the numbers piled high,
       Death smiled in glee,
       many more yet to die.
       The thousand stood firm.

       Long through the day,
       flesh met tempered steel,
       a true warrior's way
       The thousand stood firm.

       Swords sheared through armor,
       through flesh and through bone,
Till the body bleeds no more.
       The thousand stood firm.

       For each one that fell,
       another moved forth,
       keeping the ranks filled.
       The thousand stood firm.

       In long grueling battle,
       many hearts wane,
       and fall short of mettle.
       The thousand stood firm.

       The mass falls apart,
       leaderless and defeated,
       It lacks in true heart.
       The thousand stood firm.

The plains clear of the living,
       leaving as dusk approaches,
       lost in their misgivings.
       The thousand stood firm.

       Spears are laid aside,
       beaten swords sheathed,
       they count those alive.
       The thousand stood firm.

       The wounded are seen to,
       The dead are burned,
       they embrace those they know.
       the thousand stood firm.

       long into the night,
       many dreams are troubled,
       recalling the fight.
       The Thousand stood firm.

       The season soon ends,
       the invasion has failed,
       in time they'll come again.
       The Thousand stood firm

Jaycol rubs his beard as he thinks of a tale for the stranger who had just bought him an ale. "Ah I remember one I heard once" he says. He turns to the stranger and begins to tell it.

      Across River's edge

      "Across the rivers edge,
       A small village sleeps.
There's a dock by the ledge,
       where the water's most deep.
       Rarely shipments come in,
       even less they go out.
       There are several small dinghies,
and only one boat that stout."

"The shadow's are dark in the night,
       enhanced by the moonless sky.
From the pier glows a single light,
lit to catch a traveler's eye.
       Gloomily, it casts it's rays,
against the fog of early morning.
       Seeming to dance and sway,
       to the mist's constant swirling."

"From the deep quiet is heard,
A call from a night fowl.
       Not much else disturbs,
       the silence of the hour.
       The water will splash,
as it moves against the shore.
       Even that doesn't last,
       in the night's silent core."

      "Soon will come the day,
       and the quiet night gone.
As the sun makes it's way,
       awakening the dawn.
       The many fowl will sing,
for the day, each it's own song.
And many more sounds shall ring,
       as the day moves along."

       * Jaycol buys a round. Then sings out a merry tune.

     We're all Buddies here

       We're all buddies here
       As long as there's beer
We'll probably have one few to many
       We'll laugh at bad jokes
       An' pick at some folks
In harm we don't mean them any

       We're all buddies here
       As long as there's beer
We'll toast to any dumb thing
       If you think that's bad
       What is really sad
Is that we all think we're good when we sing

       We're all buddies here
       As long as there's beer
We hate it when they close the doors
       We'll all beg and cry
Some with tears in their eye
"Ah! Come on and give us one more"

Oh, Might ye have a tria or two

Oh! Might ye have a tria or two
I seem ta be down on me luck
I spent mine on ale, gambling, and ladies
An' now I find meself stuck

Oh! Might ye have a tria or two
So I can get well on me way
I'll be ever indebted to you
An' hope some day ta repay

Oh! Might ye have a tria or two
I hate ta beg on the street
It makes me feel so Despicable
But, think of the people I meet

Oh! Might ye have a tria or two
So I can get a meal in me gut
I wasn't thinking well the night before
An' drank meself deep in a rut

Oh! Might ye have a tria or two
I'll repay ye when I'm doin' well
Oh! thank ye, Thank ye, Thank ye, Sir
Move along now here comes someone else

[Blaaah, rat tails! Look at the time, I gots ta go ta work. "Gotta dig the gold."  hahahahahhaah]

It may come as a surprise to most to find
that a lady is not always kind

She smiles and giggles and twirls a bit
and the next second she will throw a fit

Our patience may seem to never end
while inside, our heartstrings tear and bend

This results in an ironic state
one minute glad, the next irate!

So gentlemen, surprise your gals
keep them smiling, raise morale!

And girls, lets try a little harder
not to torture when we're lacking ardor

So gents, prepare your best to please
your temperemental beloved ladies!!

*Jaycol whips out his moldy book of lost thoughts. (I have used it a couple of times  I just never said so)

       The committed crime

       Of all  the things
       To write about
       Something needs said
       About the doubt

       A pen and paper
       Used to record
       A thought that most
       Would disregard

       To keep it handy
       But stashed away
       To read once again
       Before it's thrown away

       To wish to yourself
       At a later time
       To have what was lost
       From the committed crime

*Jaycol laughs to himself as he reads his next poem.

     Whistle and whittle

       Whistle and whittle
       A tune and a chip
       I picked up some apples
       And gave one to Harnquist
       The crowd stood around
       As they always do
       Lost in idle chat
       Ignoring the noob
       Who shouted in vain
       What do I do
       Then came the answer
       Kill a rat or two
       But I have no weapons
       Came the new one's reply
Can you give me some money
       So one I could buy
       I laugh cause it's funny
       But I'm not sure why

       I reach in my pouch
       For a circle or two
       Or search through my pack
       For a weapon that'll do
       I'll help Ye out
But I ask for a boon
       One day in your travels
       You'll meet someone new
You need only to help them
       As I'm helping you
       Ok, They replied
With the sword in their hand
       Where are the sewers
       I chuckled again

Putting away my wood and my knife
       As the newcomer waits
       This way I replied
       A swagger in my gait
       So off to the sewers
       With the stranger in tow
I called out a few seconds later
       Where did you go
So I ran around the plaza
       And soon find my stray
       I say with heavy sigh
       Come, this way
       In a just few moment's
       We're at sewer's edge
       I tell them good luck
As they climb down the ledge
Oh thank you came a distance reply
       Followed soon after
       A quickened good bye

So I write down their name
And they become part of the group
       One more companion
       In our scattered out troop
       And several months later
       To this very day
       From a small helping hand
       A good friend I made

*FACT: [And just for the record, this poem is meant in jest. Many characters around Harnquist's are taking a break, or are busy with the forge and/or in another chat and often miss the what's in the main chat window. Very few times Have I ever seen someone ignored. (except for bad manner's or the use of internet shorthand) In most cases after they run off someone sends them a /tells and sets them straight. I was once one of those. Three people helped me out. One never played again. The other two have been gone for months. Thank you Thigied and Shangreloo, for being my mentors. I miss your friendship and still cherish your gift's. I wish you well]

Why would we wait?

        * Jaycol sips his ale and tells a tale he has heard in his travels.

The soul of Gold

Within the soul of gold
Lies a yearning that all men share
Since the days of old
It was sought without care
A precious thing
That could make one rich
A status symbol of power
It made men forget

As they sought it like cowards
They preyed on the weak
The helpless and the poor
Then turned on each other
And called it war

They sought it with passion
A lust never end
As they turned on their neighbor
their families, and friends
Until they lost in battle
That which in blood they gained

Over and over
Their bounty changed hands
Never to be cherished
By the same set again
The names and faces forgotten
As the gold reaches the market
No one wishes to know
The true price of it's worth
they only dealt in trias

As trinkets of pretty metal
As gifts of finery
Displayed in pride and vanity
Until in the dim light
Comes the slash of a blade
Yielded by a strong hand
And that fine precious metal
Passes hands once again

        * Jaycol yawns as the wariness of the day takes it's toll upon him. He drinks from his mug of ale and a familiar grin crosses his face.  He begins to sing a song that he had learned from the soldiers near the Bronze Doors.

Oh, Bloody Ale

I tripped over my feet
and smashed my face
Oh...Bloody...Ale

I pulled out a tooth
an' laughter rocked the place
Oh....Bloody....Ale

It's the ale that did it
It's commonly known
Had nothing to do with me
It's evil it's true
it takes hold o' you
when it comes offered for free

My mug tipped over
an' spilled on the bar
Oh...Bloody...Ale

Sorry about your armor
Hope it don't rust at all
Oh...Bloody...Ale

It's the ale that did it
an' you should know
You been here a time or two
It's just not my night
nothing seems to go right
Just wait it'll happen to you

I tried to leave
And rolled on the floor
Oh...Bloody...Ale

So they picked me up
an' threw me out the door
Oh... Bloody...Ale

Dancing Duel

With bows of respect
The dancers begin
A duel to the death
The living one wins
They circle each other
Both parry and yield
Advancing in caution
their skill is their shield

A deadly dance of wit
Experience and skill
Less concern to hit
As each dodges cold steel
Every stroke is as deadly
To both as they dance
Each step evenly weighed
To balance and chance

They feint, thrust, and parry
It seems forever in vain
They seem not to worry
In this dangerous game
Then with one step to many
That one can't amend
Brings the finishing stroke
And the dance to an end

Jaycol orders a round for the house.

Here with the beer

We dag down in da mine
Workin' hard through da day
Our picks keepin' time
Ringin' da stone, without sway
Da dust flew up high
An' chocked our each breath
Hopin' with every hard strike
Would yield out da best
Then down through da shaft
Came an echoin' Cheer
Hey Ya'all
I'm here with the beer

Much clangin' and clamor
our picks dropped down bare
As we shuffled an' staggered
over da debris dat was there
Blinded by daylight
Our noses keyed ta da scent
Ta an open cast o' beer
Dat we drank till was spent
Then with heavy sighs
Down da shaft we returned
Ta pick at da stone
Till our blissers did burn

Long into da night
Our picks rang their sad song
In da dim candle's light
As we all worked along
Once in a great while
A nugget rolled free
An' was placed on the pile
Where da other one's be
Smile's wide on our faces
We nodded each our consent
Turnin' back ta da stone
Our morale nearly spent
Then down through da darkness
Came a shout ta our ears
Hey Ya'all
I'm here with the beer

Two Fisted Drinker

   Tap - Tap -Tap

 "Oooooooooh!"

 "I be a two-fisted drinker

I'm an ale of a sight"

  Tap - Tap - Tap

 "Oooooooooooh!"

 "I be a two-fisted drinker

Slide one down the bar, Brado

Slide one down the bar, Brado
It takes some skill of hand
To keep it scootin' along the surface
An' makin' sure it stands
Ta reach a happy patron
As it goes directly in his hand

Slide one down the bar, Brado
I'm sure it take's plenty of will
As ye push it with such perfect balance
Just enough so it doesn't spill
To an ever so thirsty traveler
It provides an eye opening thrill

Slide one down the bar, Brado
It's something I'll wager ta see
Just to watch if it slosh's alittle
As ye slide one on down here ta me
Just make sure I'm payin' attention
Or I'll be drinkin' up with me feet

  Once upon a fairy tale
  There was a perfect girl
She had the fairest cheeks so pale
And teeth as white as pearls

  She had a perfect attitude
  She had a perfect smile
  She blushed and giggled perfectly
  She was not easily beguiled

She lived in a perfect little house
  With the perfect little pets
She cooked the perfect dinner meals
  She lived without regrets

One day she met the perfect man
  A prince from far away
  They lived together perfectly
  In a perfect married way

They lived long perfect lives in bliss
  Their children perfect too
  Then they died together perfectly
  At the age of ninety-two

And now the whole world scorns their name
And strives day in and out
  To achieve a similar perfectness
  The perfectly devout

 Sitting at a table bare
She twirls a finger through her hair
A glance around the room reveals
Few diners picking at their meals

A vagrant sits in corner's shade
Counting money deceit made
A fenki grooms her glowing fur
Removing leaf and seed and burr

The largest man shes ever seen
Licks his plate entirely clean
His tiny wife sits thin and proper
Distainful with her perfect posture

The diner sighs and turns her gaze
Upon the bar, it's smokey haze
Three dwarves they talk in whispered hush
And tap their picks, while sipping mush

By this time, the diner is quite bored
She casts a glance back at the door
Her face lights up in a broad grin
A handsome man, he marches in

He bows and gently takes her arm
They exit with all grace and charm
Yet when they pass the line of view
He kisses her a sad adieu

Jaycol buys Anumesa An ale.  Then lowering his head  he pauses, then he looks looks up. His eyes lost in thought as he shares a soldier's lament.

Kindred of War

Ghostly visions haunt my dreams
Many faces I never knew
The fallen foes of battles past
Drifting endlessly, reminding me
Of my future's peril due

I do not shed the tears of sorrow
Unconsious of my deeds of horror
For I have only been spared thier fate
Allowed one more tommorrow
By a meer width of a sword

Still I know them all
These gastly images looming
They are my brothers and sisters
Sibling's of a battle's patronage
We were born of one blood in arms

We shared the honor of challenge
We shared the fears of life
We danced in the ballroom of death
We shared before each battle
The long endless, sleepless nights

We laughed together to hide our fears
And cherished the thoughts of pleasant memories
enjoying the company of our brethren
Though we have never met
We shared the things most precious to us
The things we wanted remembered

I awaken to a murky dawning
wondering if this is to be my day
To become one of the forgotten faces
Within someone else's dreams
Will my torments finally be released
As I dress to join my family in battle
The Kindred of war

In the end
We all begin
To wish to change
An" start again
The things we lost
The things we knew
Of what we missed
An' start anew
But life's unkind
As years fly by
So, if you missed it
Don't ask why

A friendly menki marches on
With shining fur by light of dawn
A solid club held in his paw
A song echoing from his maw

He dreams of lands beyond his reach
Roads untravelled by his feet
Of towers stretching to the sky
A world seen through his inner eye

One day his feet will march anew
He will go far, each step so true
Who knows just what he may find
Before his feet, the world unwinds..

I sit and stare up at this wall
Ive built it brick by brick until
The barrier built inbetween
A castle growing taller still

There are no doors, and few windows
And 'twixt its walls I do resign
The endless halls and twisted stairs..
yet NEVER will I be confined.

To some it seems a lonely place
Yet those who speak have never seen
The Tefu sitting in the hall
Feed him well and he 'aint mean.

The stairwell is a mountain peak
Shouded in a shaggy coat
Yet near the top, hikers beware!
Of monsters hidden in the snow

The laundry is a secret lake
With secrets hidden in its depths
Mysterious glowing waters pale
Only the brave dare cross its breadth

I could tell you 'bout the other stuff
Fanatics in the dining room
Gobbles swinging from the lights
Ulbers snacking on some brooms

Yes twixt these walls all life resides
Safely kept from others harm
If you cant enter, thats too bad
You're missing out on all its charm

*Amarthame buys Anumesa an ale.

Whistl'in' a tune and tappin' her feet,
Keeps herself movin' to her steady beat,
Listens t'the music of some drunken wail:
"Come on, Allelia, jus' one more ale!"

She'll smile and watch some Ynnwn chat,
Boastin' 'bout how he killed some rat.
She'll listen to an elf talk t'some lass,
An' watch him spill much ale from his glass.

But is that all she must endure?
There's more t'bartendin', t'be sure.
She has t'do more than just serve ale,
And listen t'some old tavern tales.

For what of the outlaws and of the crooks?
And what of the trouble that they all cook?
Trouble'll start and trouble'll end
Right in that haven the tavern does lend.

There'll be laughter at others' pain,
And harsh words, they'll be exchanged,
Fights'll take place an' people will die,
For Allelia t'witness with her own eyes.

There's so much that she's heard and seen,
With her smilin' eyes and ears so keen.
And yet she stands there without fail,
Hummin' her tune, servin' her ale.

I'm Guessing it's my turn to buy.

The wind howls as the door opens to Kada El's. Patrons turn from their conversations to glance at the source of the disruption. A lone, dusty figure of an aging dwarf enters, shutting the door behind him. The wind whining as it is sealed again from the comforts of the tavern's inner haven. Jaycol sighs. Releasing the straps from his pack dropping it carelessly by the door. The weariness of his face disappears quickly as he turns to face the bar. He eyes twinkle with a glow of mischief,  a boyish grin crosses his face.
"Ahhhh!" He replies.
His hands coming together producing a loud clap that again draws attention from those within the room. Giving his trousers a tug, he crosses the floor with a renewed vigor. His hand glides within his vest as he nears the bar. With a heavy clunk, a bag of coin slams  heavily upon the the wooden surface.
"Drinks are on me!" Jaycol calls out. "Serve 'em till it's dry."
With a familiar smile, Allelia places a mug of ale on the bar near Jaycol.  He eagerly grasps the mug with both hands, raising it up to drink from it. He pauses to stare at the contents,  lost in thought for a moment. He lowers his face, slowly inhaling the scent of the liquid. He sighs. His face goes blank as if lost in a dream. Then, with a shrug he looks  up at the serving maid in all seriousness.
"I'll take another, If ye don't mind," He says to her.
With a sudden tilt of his head and wrist he empties the contents of the mug. Placing the empty container back on the bar.
"I'm a bit thirsty" Jaycol says with a smile of innocence.

Trickling water

Listening to the Trickling water
I found the burdens I bore
Soothed by it's repetitive rhythm
Flowing gently past the stones
Placed out randomly within it's path
Caressesing them as it pasted
Like the hands of a master
Upon the instrument of his life
Moving in loving, caring motions
Offering only the finest of melodies
I lost myself
Within the tender caresses it offered
My troubles forgoten as I listened
Relaxing to it's song of nature
I closed my eyes
And found my thoughts drifting
Into that, what once was
Pictures of more pleasant memories
Portraited themselves to me
My spirit dancing
On the edge of reality
As I enjoyed the moment
Time was lost to me
So soon the day pasted by
I raised to leave
With a heavy sigh
Marveling at the simplicity of peace

The Spy

In the quiet pleasantness of the night
Under the new moon's sleeping face
Disturbing the depths of the murky shadows
A lone figure stalks the under brush
His motions noticed only by the dwelling inhabitants
As they watch this intruder within their world
The slight rustle of fabric betrays his movement
He stops suddenly waiting in the silence
Until the nights livelihood resumes around him
Stealth commands his inner reason
His bearing is one of caution
No malice proceeds his movement
Seeking his way through the darkness
Dramatically intent of purpose

He approaches the thickets end
The waves from the lake splash on the shores edge
He observes the new scenery
The clearing looms threatening
Even on this most dark of nights
He wonders as he stands upon the shore
The outcome of his stealthy chore
Knowing that he too must wait
The end of that future date
When his deed that had gone unseen
Becomes the fate of another's destiny
With trained focus he returns his thoughts
Listening to the sounds of night
For that one which does not belong
That one sound which isn't right

From the waters darkened gloom
The sound of metal and wood scraps
Though tended with care
It betrays it's makers skills
It thunders across the vast blackness
He frowns at the carelessness
As he listens to the waters broken pattern
The oars slapping across the surface
Fighting against the motion of the waves
Closing his eyes
He channels out the man made echoes
Listening again to the familiar fabric of night
That he has long been a part of
For something new
Something missing

A boat scraps upon the rocks
As it reaches an abandoned shore
Its captain alone in the darkness
Settles it's oars to rest
Raising he steps onto the rocky landfall
The boat squealing as he tugs it forward
Securing it from the motion of the waves
He waits
Searching against the darkness
Waiting for his unknown passenger
His heart beats in it's uneasiness
Echoing within his ears
It is all he hears
Until the rush of footsteps
And the gentle slide of polished metal
Interrupt his thoughts of fear

From the cover of the underbrush
He listens to the scuffle of bodies
Patiently he waits
Almost as quickly as it came
The noise subsides
Men gather in the darkness
Their voices plain and loud
Untarnished by the quietness of the night
Soon they leave
Bearing the body of the ferryman
As it struggles helpless against it's bonds
The careless sounds of man subside
Save for one
Posted near the shore
Mumbling into the darkness
Of his own misfortune
He mumbles to his death
As a skilled hand
Guides a well worn dagger
To his end

He hears the gurgle from the shoreline
As his boat drifts out upon darkened water
He sits motionless
Letting his initial push carry him out
Out, far from the lakes edge
Soon the tides will take him further
Where it is safe
And he can redirect his journey
Across the water
To the shore of his choosing
He closes his eyes to the darkness
And he listens
Relaxing to the quiet pleasantness of the night

Ach! One for the ale

If Drinkin' were Riches

If drinkin' were riches
I'd be a rich one today
I'd bless the gods were it true
'cause I put enough away
An' I know all that digging
Had not gone to waste
As the trails of me swallows
Would be gold on me face

If Drinkin' were riches
I be well worth me worth
As I could size up me teasures
By the the size of me gerth
An' each drink that I took
Would only fatten me purse
I'd drink and be greedy
'till the day that I burst

If drinkin' were riches
I think a tavern I'd own
I'd lock the doors at all hours
An' I drink alone
It'd be a better occupation
then digging that stone
That be if drinkin' were riches
I'd be right at home

In the Morning Mists

In the morning mists
You shall see me wait

In the Morning mists
I shall stand alone

I shall stand here as the new sun breaks
And heals the darkness of the world

Merrily joy shall sing upon the earth
As the flighting birds tell the tale
Sharing witness to the dawns new birth
And the new stir of life spreads the word

You shall see me there
As the fog's gray curtain parts
Surrounded by the cresting sun's glow
With the warmth of you in my heart

Rejoice with me here
The coming of day in infancy
This fresh new moment of our life
Opened for all who will see

Let the wind carry our dreams forth
To seed the fertile ground we seek
Sharing always the promise of harvest
The children of our thoughts

Come stand with me here
As the the morning mist slowly wanes
Bask with me in the warmth of tomorrow
Ablaze of yesterdays dreams

Smile for me
Let me see for myself
The beauty of the rising dawn
With my own eyes

Rolling Hills

The rolling hills go on forever
Hinting of vast emptiness
Only the quiet breeze
Betrays their gloom
Whispering secrets from the Ages
Among their multitude

Yet they stand together
Foreboding on the horizon
Challenging all who dare upon them
A journey of solitude
Of wonder and dread
Hard as their ragged edges

Woe, to all who travel there
Among the thieves of the sky
Seeking the treasured valleys
So coveted by them
That lay hidden with such care
Among the folds of gathered doom

Walk among their shadows with care
As you are swallowed by their ranks
Let them not devour your being
To add to the dance of ghosts
Given by the passing clouds
As they cast out the light

Sleep not among the dead
In the gathering of souls
That have lost their way in passing
Rest with the breath of life
Strong within your breast
As you lay among the giants of the past

Strength be in your heart
May hope guide you well
With each days journey
As you walk further
Far beyond the boundaries
Of the world you know

They have stood forever
There against the rages of time
Forever on the horizon
A monument of nature
Set against change
At the edge of dreams

*Beniel applauds and buys Jaycol 5 ales, one for each of the fine verses he had just shared

A young Ylian stands up to share a short verse. "I'm afraid mine doesn't quite compare with your fine efforts but..."

There was a young Ylian from Farix
Who liked to compose limericks
But he failed at the sport
'Cos he wrote them to short

Oh I've been walkin' in these shoes
Near forty days or more
My toes are pinchin' quite a bit
An' both my heels are sore

Ya see, they never fit quite right
But Momma said they did
"I paid good tria for those shoes!"
My Momma always said.

So now im walkin' 'round this town
With achin' heels an' toes
  I get so many compliments
But no one knows my woes

The spot behind the massive bow
It chafes me quite a bit
  That scratchy lacy detail there...
My skin's about to split!

The pointy toes and raised heels
Are quite a source of sorrow
  Maybe ill try somethin' new
And wear some socks tomorrow...

A wind-blown figure walks into the the door. Books and scrolls hang from his pack. a pencil is stuck behind his long ear.  He staggers up to the bar, and orders something strong.  after a long drink from the dirty mug he puts it down and pulls out a book...

I've seen mountains...
towns with fountains,
but the land I love is home

I've known many,
who'd spare a penny
but I care for not but my own

now I am home
no longer alone
home with the ones I hold near.

The dermorian puts his book down and takes another long draught from his mug, he wipes away the drink left on his face and smiles faintly.

Jaycol calls out for ales for Beniel, Anumesa, and Nalain.

Jaycol clears his throat and begins to sing a quickly paced song

A Livin' Hell

I left behind me wife and kids
Selfish
Shameful
Heartless
and cold

Never forgiven for what I did
Hated
Shunned
Spited
and loathed

I searched a life of fortune and fame
Consumed
Yearning
Greedy
for gold

My troubles earned, meself ta blame
Regretful
Tired
Lonely
and old

I live me life, a livin' hell
An' dug meself, an endless well
Thar ist no fortune, dat I could tell
ta fill this void, of an empty shell

In dis hole , I shall stay
To toil again, yet another day
While me soul, it wastes away
Until me body, is left ta lay

I often find I dream of home
Welcome
Caring
Loving
and warm

Wishing now I never had gone
Lost
Sorrowful
Regreting
I mourn

Oh ta live da life dat I once had
Happy
Together
Sharing
and more

Knowin' dat I can never go back
Forgotten
Troubled
Heartbroken
and torn

I live me life, a livin' hell
An' dug meself, an endless well
Thar ist no fortune, dat I could tell
ta fill this void, of an empty shell

In dis hole , I shall stay
To toil again, yet another day
While me soul, it wastes away
Until me body, is left ta lay

Good ta see yah again Anumesa, missed yah.

[ For all our PS friends we love and miss]

Our Journey

Come with me my friend
Let us walk along  together
We travel so briefly the same trail
The road is lonely among strangers
And the silence makes it long as well

Grace me with your name
So I shall always remember
And to others I might someday say
We once shared company together
If even for but a single day

All too soon
This open road will separate
And our journey together may end
As we yeild to life's given fates
I am glad we were freinds

I shall cherish forever
This journey joined in pleasant company
Sharing the many things that brought us joy
Adding as we traveled to that history
A treasure of personal memories

Let us rest here a moment
before we reach that far bend
That I can take the chance to say
Remember me in your heart my friend
So we never need say goodbye

Marching off to War

Grab your boots and hats, boys
Grab your shield and sword
Then meet us at the hall, boys
Cause, we're marching off to war

Give your lass a kiss, boys
Kiss her hard once more
Then meet us at the hall, boys
Cause, we're marching off to war

Say Good-bye to your Mam, boys
And to your sire say farewell
Then meet us at the hall, boys
Cause, we're marching of to war

Put your troubles behind you, boys
It's best to leave them here
Then meet us at the hall, boys
Cause, we're marching off to war

Think you have come to age now , boys
Good men we need for sure
Then meet us at the hall, boys
Cause, we're marching off to war

Want to earn your name, boys
One that people will remember
Then meet us at the hall, boys
Cause, we're marching off to war

Leave the simple life behind you, boys
Walk away without a care
Then meet us at the hall, boys
Cause, we're marching off to war

Tears of Laarnx

The fading crystal light cascades
Lighting the mineral rich Ceiling
Rippling, like the stars of legend
Sparkling so brilliantly
Across the great cavern of our world
Bringing life to the darkening day

I sigh in breathless amazement
Captivated so by its beauty
Enchanted like a child
Watching a magician's trick
I am a child still
Beneath a performance of the gods

My ears closely listen
As the waters break across the bow
Beating out in percussion
Against the symphony of the sea
The gentle rolling of it's waves
Blending into an awry of tones

Dreamily, I watch
Entranced by the gleaming sparklets
The near glass surface of the water
Glistens in reflection
The display from the sky
Upon each breaking wave

"By the Gods!" I gasp
The warm summer breeze stirs
Massaging my face with it's breath
Mixing with the gentle rocking of the ship
My heart beats hard against my chest
Pounding in relentless Passion

My strength withers unwilling
A victim of this magnificent spectacle
Quickly, I close my eyes
Shutting out the dazzling lights
Too late, as the tears of Laanx
Burned their dance within my mind

My body yields in surrender
Adrift with my imagination
I glide among the lights
The glimmer of my being sparkles
Within the sequence of motion
That is the crystal's grace

ref: [ I have used the term of "the tears of Laanx"  to explain how ancients may have looked at the formations of lights across the cavern ceiling. The term references the period of sorrow of Laarnx after her disfigurement in the second Epoch. I have also used the term "The Brow of Laanx" in another tale. This is intended for lore, nothing more. It serves as a reference for me to use to explain navigation in my tales.  As there are no lights in the night sky that I have noticed yet

"Hmmmm?"  Jaycol laughs to himself as he orders another ale. "Been a spell since I did's a tune ta drink with." Taking a drink from the freshly poured mug of ale
that the barkeep handed to him. Jaycol turns away from the bar to the open tavern floor filled with the evening patrons. Raising his mug in a toast, he quickly takes another drink. Clearing his throat,  then with deep breath begins to sing out in a loud robust voice a merry drinking song to fit the occasion.

Till we all wake up tomorrow

I woke in da morning ta find meself
Lying on da street outside me house
With a couple o' quick shakes ta clear me head
I fumbled with da door and was off ta bed
Collapsin' in it's comfort like a  heavy weight
Me last thought was ta blame it all on me mates
With a loud groan I was soon fast asleep
For dis was only da first day o' da week

Give me an ale an' a mate ta drink it with
Set a few more aside ta keep our whistles wet
Soon we'll be lost in da crowd without sorrow
Dat is...
"Til we all wake up tommorow

I slept meself long inta da day
With a spash on me face I was back on me way
Ta da house where I got meself in dis state
An' ta have another set o' rounds with me mates
With an achin' head I walked through da door
Knowin' it'd be gone soon as I crossed da floor
Orderin' a couple mugs, I quickly drank one down
Ahhhhh! Can be such a joyish sound

Give me an ale an' a mate ta drink it with
Set a few more aside ta keep our whistles wet
Soon we'll be lost in da crowd without sorrow
Dat is...
"Til we all wake up tomorrow

We drank late inta the night without any thought
Linin' up mug after mug o' dat hefty drought
All thinkin, ta ourself's dat life is just great
With all dis beer, da girls an' o'coarse good mates
Dancin', laughin' an' singin' throughout da night
Some may not like it, but ta us seems right
Ain't nothin like a brew ta make one a happy fella
Dat is....
'Til we pay for da deed tomorrow

Give me an ale an' a mate ta drink it with
Set a few more aside ta keep our whistles wet
Soon we'll be lost in da crowd without sorrow
Dat is...
"Til we all wake up tomorrow

Fields of Ojaveda

I hear her name
and I yearn for home
She holds my heart
Long as I roam
There will come a day
When I return
To the golden fields
Of Ojaveda

I miss her grace
I miss her charm
She has long been the place
That I call home
When my journey ends
Then I shall turn
To the golden fields
Of Ojaveda

Of bounties great
She freely gives
The rye and wheat
On which we live
I'll offer my blessing
When I go back
To the golden fields
Of Ojaveda

She is the lands
Where my peoples dwell
Her fields and sands
I know so well
I wish to cross the rivers edge
On my way home
To the golden fields
Of Ojaveda

Stamno Calls out for the best bloody drink in the tavern.  The keep hands it to him and he passes it to Jaycol.

"i heard once a poem told by a kran of a young Lemur girl, perhaps I can remember,

Love in the air,
the silent stair
of humble beast on beauty,
not all agree
with loving free
and so the beast watches from far
watching waiting
never hating
those who deny him his love,
for he who hates
this plan of fates
lives in fear of the end so near.

Stamno looks into his beer, and takes a long draught of it.

* Jaycol buys Samno an ale. "Well done." He says

Ol' Lady

Please my good sir
She said in a plea
Spare but a few triangles
Fo' an ol' soul in need

With a sorrowful heart
I reached for me belt
an' removed me fat purse
ta fetch some coins out

A fist full o' coins
did drop from me hand
An' made such a clamor
fallin' inta da tin

With a smile on her face
An' a gleam in her eye
She thanked her good fortune
Then quickly said G'bye

Weren't but a week later
When me rent was due
Dat from me bleedin' generosity
I was short a tria or two

So out in da street
I soon found meself
With no roof o'ver me head
Or da warmth o' a hearth

I huddled in an alley
Against da cool damp stone
Cursin' me misfortune
O' losin' me home

So I became a beggar
Just loiterin' about
When some ol' dame called da guard
Ta come oust me out

I glanced in her direction
Ta me shock, and surprise
Discovered that beggin' ol' lady
Had been me landlords wife

She gave an evil smile
Laughin' at me dropped jaw
An' as I was hauled away
She tossed me a tria

Da sky is da limit

Da sky is da limit
Dat dey say yah should reach
But da bar's high enough
if yah was ta ask me

could be a wee bit lower
If yah just wants ta know
I'm gettin' a little ta ol'
Ta be standin' on me toes

So if I had me a wish
Dat I would be wishing
Is dat bars weren't o'er me head
But down here by me chin

Life is tough when ye is short
In a world big an' large
Harder still ta order a beer
When yah can't see da bar

Oh? Now da barmaid can hear yah
But, she seldom looks down
Always looks a bit puzzled
As she looks around

I could jumps I suppose
but I doesn't wants ta scare her
Might think I'm a rat
An' I'll never get a beer

So I'll just wait a spell
Maybe by chance she'll get bored
An' take notice o' me
When she sweeps da floor

Da sky is da limit
Dat dey say yah should reach
But da bar's high enough
if yah was ta ask me

Samno laughs heartily at Jaycols stories and calls for another drink.

He takes out a small book labeled "Stories Of The Lake"  and begins to read.

"A whisper is heard
a whisper of cold
a whisper 'tween this world an' the next

a whisper grows old
and a word is heard
a word said o'er and o'er 'gain

a shout comes now
a shout so loud
a shout right next to your face

the voice now roars
it roars like a beast
The voice of the lake in Squall."

The Nolthrir closes the book, smiling at the remembrance of home.

Samno stares into his mug, listening to the song.

He starts out a poem

"She walks to you
then walks away
For in the light of day
now breaking over way
truth revealed
in brightest light
shows the death of night
the lights brilliant stare
over all aware
watches her now
squirming in light
seductress revealed
as a disgusting witch
and says the light, to the men,
'now... what is your pick?'"

Samno grins at his rebuttal to Jaycol's song.

"so lad", he says, "what is your pick?"

Our Final Kiss

The wind whispers softly across the quiet plains,
As your name I hear upon it's breath,
The tears gently travel down the length of my face,
As I lay your body down to it's lasting rest

I feel sometimes how unfair this is,
Quelling only briefly the sharp pain in my heart,
I kneel one last time, for our final kiss,
As I leave your soul free to part.

My tears fall down upon your clothed frame,
Sharing the wetness that is my grief,
My lips quiver as I say your name,
My head shaking in disbelief.

May the gods forever keep you safely by their sides,
May they cherish you as I have for all time,
Keep safely for me, my most loving bride,
As I finish my longer term in life,

As hard as I try I cannot bring myself to turn away,
My memories flood with the visions of your face
I give myself to the open display of my pain,
Surrendering to the emptiness without grace.

It is good to be loved

I hear you laugh
And I smile
The moment lasts
For quite awhile
By the Gods
It is good to know love

Your gentle kiss
Warms my heart
It's touch I miss
When we're apart
By the Gods
It is good to know love

As I hold you tight
I promise never to let go
I can see in your eyes
That you know

With a few little words
You describe how I feel
By the Gods
It is good to know love

Heh! Here's one fo' yah sweethearts

If Lovin' yah was easy

I pick the petals off dis flower
It just won't comes out right
Tossin' da stem onta the others
I'm thinkin' I'll give it one more try

I pluck me heart out in vain
But it keeps fallin' da odd way
I try's an' try's again
I may need ta pick more flowers taday

Oh Dear, if lovin' yah was easy
I'd a got it on da first try
I'm a hopin' dat yah love me
I'm a hopin' dat yah might
But if'n I leave it ta these posies
O' old age I may die

I tossed me a coin inta  da fountain
With a wish I was wishin' ta make
As da coin settled ta da bottom
I'm thinkin' I wished ta late

So I fetch me out another
An' toss it further inta da air
With a splash it hit da water
An' I'm wishin' dat yah cared

Oh Dear if lovin' yah was easy
I'd a got it on da first try
I'm wishin' dat yah love me
I'm a wishin' dat yah might
But if I leave it ta dis fountain
A poor man I may die

So I'd ask yah out ta dinner
Ta try ta wine and dine yah
But I'm fresh outa flowers
An' now I'm fresh outta tria

If yah don't mind a quiet wakin'
Come an' join me for a spell
We can spend da time a talkin'
An' me feelin's I will tell

Oh Dear if lovin' yah was easy
I'd a got it on da first try
I'm so happy dat yah love me
I'm so happy dat yah might
As I put me arms around yah
I'm thinkin' I'll just hold yah tight

I love you because

In jest you asked me once
"Why do you love me" you asked
I don't believe I answered much
In truth I avoided the task

I answered without thought
"Because you love me" I said
Only to realize late into the night
As I lay awake in our bed
This was not actually right
There was much more to be said

I love you
Because
You make me smile
Just knowing that your near
The warm breath that escapes your lips,
While,
You whisper in my ear

The simple things that make me laugh
As you cuddle in my lap
The hugging and the kissing
That,
Always keep me missing
The desire
The fire
Of the passion
I hold for you

I love you
Because
You still take my breath away
When I look into your eyes
As my hand caresses your face
But that is only party why
There is so much more say
and more to add each time I try

You leave me wanting
As we are apart
Panting
When we love
Happy
When your glad
Worried
When your sad

I love you
Because
You make me feel needed
You make me feel wanted
With each gentle brush
Of your touch
As you pass by
You make me feel loved
That is why

Love against time

We pitted our love against time
And held on as long as we could
Well past the years of our prime
It took you as I knew it would
As time fails with one last try
Our love still stands as it should

Maybe, we never conquered the world together
But, we never had too
We did conquer the hearts of each other
And raised against our fears, and the evil they can do
We stood against time as it weathered
And held to each other true

I grieved in my time, but I've learned
Nothing is lost in the passing
As I see our struggles reborn
Among other couples as a tasking
I pray for them each morning
That they find the strength to make their love lasting

Maybe your out there
Only at a different time
Among those others with me somewhere
Challenging the new world we find
Growing closer with each struggle we share
Testing again our love against time

* Jaycol sits alone in silence. His gaze fixed deeply into the untouched mug of ale that rests between his weathered hands. Closing his eyes he sings quietly to himself.

I don't mind the rain

I look up at the sky
Every morning when I wake
Like the space of our life
Appearing so open, so great
I can't help but wonder
What new things, it'll bring today
It's beautiful, even with the distant thunder
So, come what may
I don't mind the rain

Across the blue-gray hue
Clouds ripple in endless array
Dissipating, only to start anew
Repetitive, like the tasks of our day
The pattern of what we do
A fabric that we create
Weaved upon life's larger loom
So, come what may
I don't mind the rain

The edges yet, are so foreboding
It can't be bright every day
Chaos is always churning
That's just life's way
If it changes without warning
I'm no longer afraid
Enjoying each new morning
So, come what may
I don't mind the rain

* A long moment passes after he finishes. Slowly he pushes the full container away. He rises leaving a few coins upon the bar. With a nod of courtesy to the barkeep he turns and walks to the door.

Jaycol orders an ale taking a long drawn drink. With a smile he places the mug on the bar turning it in his hands. Taking a deep breath he hails out with an old tavern song to the surrounding patrons.

On stale beer and wine

I been told me whole life
Was one big waste o' time
Binge'n' away me strife
Thinkin' I was just fine
Me o' My an' Holy Cripes
Livin' on stale beer and wine

Guessin' I been good though
Never comitted no crime
Guessin' I don't really knows
Drinkin' till da late night chime
Me O' My an' Holy Cripes
Livin' on stale beer an' wine

Me friends have come an' gone
Guessin I'll make more tonight
Least 'till they go home
Guessin' I has dat right
Me O' My an' Holy Cripes
Livin' on stale beer and wine

Now they all tell me
I ain't got me no life
Ain't got me no family
An' I ain't got me no wife
Me O' My an' Holy Cripes
Livin' on stale beer an' wine

Guessin' I should give it up
Guessin' I will in time
I figures until dat day comes
Guessin' I'll just be fine
Me O' My an' Holy Cripes
Livin' on stale beer and wine

I ain't got no fortune

Me mam left me standing
Outside da baker's shop
Funny thin' too
Cause, I had no pop
well, she scooted out da back
With no intentions ta stop

I ain't got no fortune
Ain't gonna get me no dues
All I gots on me
is a case o' those
 Wha..da? Ahhh...,Come on?
Blues

I was getting lonely once
So's I went ta get meself a life
Got meself married too
Everything was so so fine
'til da day her husband come told me
that she happened ta be his wife

I ain't got no fortune
Ain't gonna get me no dues
All I gots on me
is a case o' those
Wha..da? Ahhhh..., Come on?
Blues

So's I went an' got me another
Couldn't find no other taker's
I can tell yah though
She ain't no home maker
Cause me kids now
All look like da local baker

I ain't got no fortune
Ain't gonna get me no dues
All I gots on me
is a case o' those
 Wha..da? Ahhh...,Come on?
Blues

*not sure weather to laugh or cry*

As the days roll by
On an empty sky
I sit and think
what today will bring
a song unheard
an unspoken word
something strange
beyond the range
of senses we have today
but as I stare at the sky
in which not a single bird flys
I feel a little like
somethings not right
and I look and see
but nothing is seen
and i listen and hear
but nothing is heard
and the world seems fake
as I can't smell the lake,
and I awake
from my strangest dream
and the world unseen
where dreams have been

Jaycol orders Samno a ale. "Nicely done, my friend."

Call of Destiny

I can hear the whispers
Gliding along upon the winds
My thoughts were that it was my imagination
Then, there, they whispered once again
Calling out to me by name
Like an old friend

I stood there alone
On the open field of plains
Listening closely to their silent voice
Separate, yet, somehow the same
Urging me to forget my sorrows
And the sources of which they came

I opened my heart to them
As they whispered of home
Surrounded in the peaceful serenity
Of family I had never known
Not in promises, in offering
If I chose to come

They whispered of tomorrow
Of a time yet to be
I surrendered myself to their serenade
As they called out to me
The whispering of my destined fate
My Call of Destiny
