While I could download and easily register on the forums, I can't seem to register for the game.  The link times out.

This is because the forum is located on "hydlaa.com", the informational server -- and the game server is on "laanx.fragnetics.com", the game server. The first one is already back, the second still down for maintenance (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=30004.0).

Ahh ok, thanks for the fast response.  I'm looking for something new to play.  I've played EQ for 6 years, CoH for 2, WoW for 2, DDO for 1, so I guess I'm not sure what to expect.

Take your chance, and read the forums. There are several threads about "what to expect".

I guess a good board search term will be "tech demo", or "alpha".
