You know, I was thinking.... Most "noobs" are really stupid. There needs to be a tutorial that explains such things like /die, exactly how to play, and what names are allowed. This would have to be before you actually start playing the game, though, because with every character I've made so far, the in game tutorial doesn't work right. It's really glitchy.
But, I really posted this 'cause I thought it was funny!
-
Is the economy so bad now that noobs can not afford to buy vowels?
-
Causing grief such as you did is not welcome around here.
That player did nothing wrong save their name and that can be easily fixed with a report to have a GM look into it. Praying on players and driving them away gets no one anywhere.

I wonder if he's still in the Death Realm. Gonna go get him out real fast, if I can.
/dies from laughter.
Nevermind, he left... Sorry 'bout that. I'm just heartless.
-
I can beat that.

that one deserved to die, it does say not to use offensive names when you pick a name
-
\\o// so funny. they both deserved to die

eheh thats so good it could be a sig...
-
You also have to have a pronounceable name. One reason why I got the poor n00b killed. Second was that he was, well, acting a bit ch00bish...
-
I think your behavior was childish, Raa. It's nothing to brag about in the slightest.
-
Thanks, but I'm not bragging. Merely thought it was funny, in an evil sense.
-
People who PK new players in other games probably think it's funny too :)
-
It didn't kill him. :D He got a trip to the Death Realm faster than others, so what? Better he learns the way out anyway. It's a life lesson too: never trust strangers.

That's a horrible justification for griefing.
-
I was actually walking out as that conversation took place! If I had known what your motive was, I would have stuck around and helped the poor kid.

If that's the sort of community you want to foster here, by all means. I thought that PlaneShifters prided themselves on their eagerness to help newbies learn the ropes, and especially make them understand their first mistakes with patience and kindness. Do you want to chase away potential roleplayers, or nurture them? This was so badly handled and so out of character that I hope it stands here as a shining example of what not to do.

What if that char is a liar? Then it's IC. But in this particular case it was OOC. Still, I don't see it as such a big thing. People are indeed helpful in PS and they act nice with you. Maybe one didn't and made you kill yourself. Not the end of the world. And doesn't griefing mean persistent harassment? The only really wrong thing that I see here is that nobody explained to him the whole thing.
-
I grew up learning the hard way, so I understand what Laraphie was thinkin'.
-
Try to realize what you're doing - you're essentially sanctifying being mean to someone and lying to them when they are new to the game and not sure how things work yet. "I grew up that way" is a poor excuse for such actions, because you have the chance to make someone else's experiences much better than what you might've gone through. Do you really need that "It was hard for me so I'll make it hard for someone else" mentality? Please let this be an isolated incident and learn from your mistakes.
-
. . . I lost you at the word "try".
-
I don't understand why it always gets like this on the forum. In my opinion, Meolae, you're using strong words. "sanctifying"? Much too strong for a game. You don't even get a penalty for going to the Death Realm. And speaking of roleplaying, that would give him a very good start for a good RP. ^^ Besides, don't people lie in the real world too? A kick in the ass is a step forward. :D
-
People lie in the real world, they also shun people who exhibit abusive behavior if they can. Publicizing your bad acts or applauding those who do is a sign you just don't get it.
-

HE WAS USING BRACKETS, IT WAS OOC.
-
wow... why the need for caps lock on? It freaks me out. When I said lying I was reffering to "Aleena is dead." I also said that in this case it was OOC. *sighs*

Sorry, I don't have a picture of what I've already said so I can draw a red arrow on it.
Really now, nobody said "do this! do this!". It was not the nicest thing in the world, yeah, but still not the end of the world. Well *ahem* that's it.
-
No one is saying it's the end of the world in this thread, Laraphie. I'm not sure where you get this strange idea.
-
Well, dunno, saw some meteors falling on the Earth and I was like OMG OMG TEH END is coming.
I was talking about the fact that in my opinion, people are slightly overreacting about this.
-
I had somone tell me to dig for emeralds once by typeing /die emeralds ... I however did not fall for it..
-
Really now, nobody said "do this! do this!".
Wrong.
-
The bottom line with this little incident is that newcomers have as much right to enjoy the game and learn about it as those with more experience do. Abusing their lack of experience to send them to the DR, in which you know they'll probably have a difficult time getting out, just because they are asking questions you consider annoying or don't quite know what they are doing is no reason, and no, it's not funny.
They have a bad name? Use the /petition command. GMs are always hunting for name policy breakers and quickly deal with them but in the interest of keeping the game fun for everyone. Not with the intention to punish or make fun of anybody.
There will always be someone with little or no regard to other players out there, someone who only plays the game to pwn or PK or simply to push other players' buttons. If their behavior is disrupting, file a petition but above all, keep in mind that by having no patience with others, not using the proper channels to deal with the problem, and taking the "fun path" you might become that kind of player/person yourself.

That was possibly me. A typo I do myself too often... :whistling:
