Title: Walking in the dark
Post by: Juggern on September 23, 2007, 10:23:42 pm
When I travel, I allways see the surrounding area like this:

It's strange, I can see far away mountains and terrain perfectly bright, but as I arrive there, it becomes darker and darker, until I cannot see nothing under my feet.
And it only affects grass and mountains, outer terrain. When I am in a city, or over a stone path, it looks perfectly normal.

I have seen the FAQ, have tried the "-fullbright", have updated graphic card, have updated DirectX, have reinstalled the game, but there is no way to fix it.

The computer is a LapTop, running Windows XP, and graphic driver is Mobile Intel 945GM/GU Express Chipset Family.

It's not critical, I can play, but it's terribly annoying, I cannot see how is the terrain, and so I do not know when I can clim it or not.

That is your problem you dont have a real graphics card. There is nothing that can be done till you get a real graphics card.

All right, I have suposed something like this.
Well, thanks, I can play, anyway.
I will not buy a graphics card for my laptop... I think my company would not appreciate that kind of petition...

And buy a computer or a graphic card on my own for a game is far away even from my most terrifying nightmares.

If I was that kind of people, now I would be playing World Of Warcraft.

you can always see if intel has an update for the chipset's drivers.  downloading the newest driver version may fix the issue.

and since when can you buy a new graphics card for a laptop?... thouse things are stuck to the computer, only option is to buy a whole new computer without a intel or s3 graphics card, should be a nvidia or ati if you want the laptop to be a gaming machine

Intel cards are not the way to go, period. They are at least a couple of years behind Nvidia and ATI cards at any given time.

My last computer had an Intel card integrated into the motherboard, and while I didn't get a whole lot of glitches, it was slower than molasses and refused to work with some games at all.

If you plan to play any new 3-D games and the computer you buy has an Intel card standard that you don't intend to replace, pass.

Thanks, I've tried it, but it doesn't run anyway.

Yes, I know I can't play some games with my computer... but I must say that the games I like to play usually doesn't need such graphic power. All of you know what I'm saying, how gameplay allways beat up everything else, if you know what you are looking for. If you wouldn't understand this, you would not be playing this one, and feeling it like The Game (with upper case)

I have been looking a lot, and this one is the only one that has captivated me from the very beginning. So don't rely his beauty nor in graphic power, neither on poligonal design or textures art. It's another thing what make me spent day after day on it.

So it's all right, I will walk in the darkness between oja and hydlaa, it really doesn't matter at all.

in the longer out future, when PS moves from alpha to finish touching and optimization, it very well may happen that it starts to work properly for you.  welcome to the un-optimized world of PS.  :)

You know that iconic blue Planeshift crystal? At the current version 0.3 it's still very rough and the cutting and refining process has only begun but eventually it will be a beautiful gem (corny parable, I know).
