When I read this sentence from Karyuu
I will leave this board. And you'll have to deal with what that will mean. You, not me, who will be somewhere else doing other things and be happier for it. I will stop listening to player complaints. I will stop listening to player opinions. I will stop sharing anything I know with the community. I will continue creating art assets based on our release plans and fixing bugs via the BT, and nothing more. I am on the verge right now and 100% serious about it.
It was on 3rd of September and I became pretty afraid of her beeing serious to leave.
While browsing the forums today I see, her last Post is from Sept the 6th.
Karyuu shared many of her knowledge with us which we never had known without her.
It makes me quite sad to see that someone, who really worked hard to answer anybody in the forums in a polite, constructive and always professional way, has left.
And if this happened due to trolling and impoliteness than those who did should be ashamed !
I'd really like to see you coming back, Karyuu !

Sadly if you look over the whole board you will see that Karyuu is no longer a forum moderator. She may return someday but we do not know what her plans are. For now Neko is the head forum mod now since Karyuu left.
-
Noooooooooo .......
So it IS true ?
Karyuu really left ?
/me sinks his head, sadly ...
-
Yup, she left and isn't coming back. It wasn't any one big thing, just lots of little things wearing her down until she'd had enough. There's enough crap in RL without having to take it here too.
-
My trainer told me this;
Making misakes, is normal. making many mistakes over and over again, is stupid. Not taking a lesson out of your mistakes, is the stupidest thing of all.
As a community, we're already stupid. Let's not become stupidest.
Karyuu, some people here will really miss you. Some will just say they will miss you. Some will never get to know you.
I'll miss you.

I'm stunned - these are sad news for us..
-
Well, I hoped I would get a negative answer to my question but now I see that what I was afraid of is true.
Sad day for me .. I did not know Karyuu much but I always read what she wrote with interest and respect.
well ... I don't know if Karyuu is meant with Neko's sig ... but I would second that:
@K: Good bye dear friend, I shall miss you. May your days be filled with happiness and joy. Take care of yourself, and know that you always have a friend willing to do what ever they can to make your day bright and sunny. This place will miss you.
-
I changed my sig the day we had our last PM conversation. I was wondering how long it would take before a post was made. :)
One note I'd like to make that I wish everyone would follow:
When she handed over the top mod spot to me, she made it very clear that she was done with anything related to these forums, and as her dear friend, I have honored her wish to not ever bother her with anything related to the forums. If you all truly want to show how much you appreciated her near countless time and effort she put in on these boards, you will not bother here with emails with "come back, we miss you!" subjects yourselves.
She didn't make the decision to move on just at the drop of a coin. She did what she felt was right and we need to honor that decision. :)
-
Um... PlaneShift is technically "related to these forums", does that mean she's not going to play the game either?

I also second this one - That's why I made this careful question on the forums.
But I think she will know how much she's missed even without my whining ....
Um... PlaneShift is technically "related to these forums", does that mean she's not going to play the game either?
Well, if so ... another piece of sadness - I never met her ingame :-\
-
I met her ingame a few times, though briefly and even got to RP a bit with her til she had to go. I am sad to see her leave the forums, but I understand her reasons for leaving completely.
-
I can't blame her, 2006-2007 was an especially controversial year in the game and I am sure it took a lot of energy to mod these forums. She deserves a break.
-
The straw that broke our Karyuu (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=29905.msg342651#msg342651) :(
HOWEVER, I would also hasten to point out that it's only the last straw in a very big pile.
I'm not going to pull out a soapbox or anything. I just hope something is learned from this whole mess...
Also, for the record: I'm quite certain Karyuu knows a lot of folks will miss her around here.
[EDIT: I would like to clarify that I did not post a link as encouragement to start sniping at those involved, through PM or other threads. Damage done, bygones, etc - I link only to highlight the kind of nonsense that needs to end.]
-
I always knew this would happen some day, moderators come and go. I must say I'm impressed by your patience, Karyuu. Despite criticism you continued far longer than would be considered humanly possible. Do what your heart tells you to do and I will see you on the other side :)
[Note: Karyuu did not leave Planeshift, only the forums.]
-
Wow...I have been gone a long time. =/
I guess I gave her my fair share of complaints, but at the same time I like to think we had a little fun discussing random pictures about cats and stuff. :P
Well, you'll be missed Kary.
-
Um... PlaneShift is technically "related to these forums", does that mean she's not going to play the game either?
I think she's not going to play the game from unrelated reasons :P
Kary's still one of them big devs though.
Well, I for one am happy that she finally made this decision. She's been taking the crap around here for way too long.

Holy friggen...dude, I thought my 9 days was bad, but...wow...
-
I've got: 18 days, 22 hours and 3 minutes.
Anyways.... Woulda at least been cool if she'd stayed long enough to reach 10,000 posts...
-
Seemed like every time I looked at her post count it was 1000 higher than last time I saw it. =/
Yeah, 9 days...I guess I shouldn't feel bad then, seeing how everyone else's day count is at least two times higher than mine. :P

Obviously miadon keeps the forum open in his browser all day with an auto-refresh on :P

No not at all, I just have no life 8|

Holy crap, Suno! You're an addict!
I have over 4000 posts behind me and only
Total time logged in: 2 days, 4 hours and 4 minutes :x
...
Well no, not really. The above applies only to the last 250 posts ;)
-
/me suddenly wonders why this topic is under forum issues...
-
because it's about the forum?
-
But is it really an issue?

Karyuu has lived in these forums, for years.
I sincerely wonder where she found time to sleep.
Too often, in disagreement, we had unkind words, one for the other.
But even in the heat of anger, she saw where I made sense, and had the grace, through gritted teeth, to let me know I had been helpful.
Far more than any change to code or play could be, this is the end of an era.
Her voice has been the fundamental note of all that post in here.
And at least to me, it feels, in some strange way, as if I have gone deaf.
I know we may still disagree, and perhaps never be friends.
But even so, I hope that she will read this, and be touched by what I say.
For though we disagree...
She has my respect.

What is an auto-refresh?
-
well an auto-refresh is a thing that automatily refreshs.. the clue is in the name ;) ;D

I think it's remarkable that she moderated these boards as long as she did without going completely insane. It seems inevitable for any mod as dedicated as she was. It's not that there's anything wrong with PlaneShift that makes the forums lead to madness, it's more that people care so much about it, and that the nature of the internet allows for constant disagreements, which tend to lead to trolling, flaming, and/or inane babble like this. I do hope that she continues her arts contributions as they are fantastic.
-
She will be missed. A voice of reason on the forums. A rare thing. I recall at least one point with one person's idiocy where I would have just said 'screw this, I'm out' and thats the myriad of others aside. She genuinely tried to help people understand things where others would have become frustrated and given up.
-
It's odd how most of us don't really show appreciation for someone until after we realize it's too late.
Moderating forums can be a stressful job. I've moderated or adminned several small forums and still do but I can't really imagine how much work and dedication is needed to keep a huge place like this decent. For doing that job she deserves respect, which I'm sure she has always had from many people. Sadly it's also in human nature to take things for granted when we don't have to deal with them directly. hopefully this 'incident' will help people show some more respect for moderators and their tasks, then Karyuu did one last great job by resigning.
Karyuu, your work was appreciated even though that appreciation hasn't always been voiced. I'm sure that you'll keep working on this project in your own way and hopefully we'll run into eachother again, either in-game or behind the curtains ...
Neko and all the other people still responcible for keeping this place clean, your work is also appreciated a whole lot. I just wanted to take this oppertunity to show that appreciation for both past and present moderators.
-
I showed appreciation all the time :P Mostly by trying not to get the mods into stressful situations.
-
Even though I never really knew you at all, I still liked you. And thats saying something. Seeya Karyuu.
