Title: Does someone have ideas for faster progression?
Post by: Srenkarth on October 17, 2007, 02:19:22 am
Yeah, the sad part is how I'm hardly new at all; I thought I was doing pretty well, you know, and I had a character with full leather armor and two falchions and stuff, so I thought that was at least decent, but the problem was that, even though I played quite a bit, I never made much progress; I didn't make too much money and I never gained a level in any skill.
So I've decided to start a new character from the beginning, and I'd like to know if anyone has suggestions for how to, um, progress faster? I guess that's kinda vague, but yeah...

Rats. kil lots and lots, and lots of rats. or whatever you can kill without being killed. you must earn lots of PP (progression points) in order to train and such, and you get those from exp, wich comes form killing things, questing, *think* you get from mining and perhpahs crafting as well ( donno for sure tho cause I don't craft) there are serveral ways to earn tria as well, mining, writing and selling books, selling loot, I've seen people role play beggers and waitresses, merchants, writers, all sorts of things, so it's really up to you imagination. Or you can imerse yourself more into the atmophere of roleplay and bybass the majorty of training and do something you think is fun and roleplay that how you want to. the main thing...is have fun!

Unfortunately "skill progression" as it stands now is rather odious. The quickest method is about as follows:

-Kill monsters, gain xp and Progression Points
-Mine ore (gold is typically best, but I have better luck with diamonds, personally)
-Sell or auction ore for Tria
-Locate appropriate trainer for your desired skill
-Exhaust PP's and Tria training desired skill to "green"
-If skill is enabled (armor, weapon, spells, crafting...), use skill until new Rank is obtained
-Wash, rinse, repeat, ad nauseum...
*Base stats are a special case: Just locate Stat trainer, pay Tria & PP. No "practice" needed.

Gaining a rank here and there is fun - even necessary - but the heart of the game is player interaction. Leveling by itself quickly becomes tiresome.

OK, so I shouldn't feel bad if I've been playing for quite a while but, practically speaking, I'm getting nowhere?

I must have raised about 10 skills in the whole time I've played.

Well leveling while roleplaying has always been hard.  Most people find it helpful that when you start playing don't start with the story you wrote for your character, start before that.  Then roleplay your way to your final goal.  Now unfortunately, this may take months to years and can be boring to say the least so sometimes RPing like you are what you say you are is necessary just to stay interested.  My best recommendation is to find someone you can chat with using the /tell system that plays similar times to you.  You make a good friend and the ongoing conversation really helps.

I think the most effective method is the one that works best for you, if thats grinding, quests or some other method.
