Title: Tutorial DOES NOT WORK
Post by: PiieBoy on October 23, 2007, 11:47:43 pm
Guys. Don't start gallavanting about "follow this walkthrough", it doesn't work! I can easily get past the blackmsithing Neave. got the powder and showed it to her, she gave it back and i went over to the fighting guy, all he says is. "Come, Sir, and I shall teach you how to fight" or something, then stops talking, and no matter what I say to him he doesn't speak again other than that "I don't understand.." crap.

Hello, you should see what the blacksmith told you, she gave you exact instructions about what to do (and somewhere here in the forum is even a FULL spoiler for the tutorial area)

Hmmm. You are missing a step there....something tangible.

I didn't fill it all in. I've used that full spoiler and it still didn't work. I do every Neave says to do and she sends me off, I get half to the fighter and he says "come over here" or something, I get over there, wait for him to say something (I said hi/hello in other tries) and nothing happens.

Yeah... pretty sure you can talk to the guy until you're character is blue in the face and you still won't progress.

However, the tutorial isn't broken... you just have to complete the favor Neave asked you to do last to get him talking to you.

Hint: Think delivery boy(or girl). ;)

Pileboy... you silly thing... if you HAD read what the blacksmith had said you would have seen that you're supposed to give the pile of dust to the guy. When you walk over to him he will say "come here and I'll show you how to fight" (or something like that) and then you just hand him the pile of dust.

Check your inventory, there might be something thats not yours to keep!

The Tutorial works fine! I have been running through it twice! No problems at all. Even the rat was there  \\o//

And in spite of what one post says, it's not the pile of dust. That should really narrow it down for you. :P

Pssh, don't be ridiculous, it's not like you sold me a coffee without telling me it was hot then made me spill it on myself... Or made me obese by forcing me to buy dozens and dozens of cheeseburgers to eat over the years... or even a dry cleaner that lost my favorite pair of pants.   :whistling:

But on an on topic note, maybe it wouldn't be a bad idea to add the few actions that are required to get through the quest to the guide... sure the NPCs tell you pretty much exactly what to do... but, if that was a "valid" argument then there wouldn't be a public walk-through around to begin with. :P

;D true true, I personally think the best solution would be making it so that all the newbies are on the same map at the same time, so that they can collaborate if needs be. The solo tutorial thing is ever so lonely.

I love it when people get annoyed due to their own stupidity. I would normally be reserved in using that word but he obviously is eirther lieing or being stupid considering that he claims he had read everything and followed all instructions.

Please be nice, Parallo, and help make new players feel welcome :) Not everyone attempting to begin playing PS has the same literacy level, and for some the tutorial is a fair challenge in itself, or we would not need a walkthrough.  ;D Playing PS in itself can be rather educational, and many rather nooby players become good roleplayers in time, especially with our support.

PieeBoy: Neave does tell the player what to do next, and then gives you a reminder about it before you leave her. If you look in your PlaneShift/logs folder, you can open your log file in a text editor and read back through your chat to see what an NPC last said to you.

I try to be nice. Its just how adamant he was that it didn't work that got me.
