Looks like the PlaneShift article onWikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlaneShift) is scheduled for deletion. If this bothers anyone, I suggest you do something about it now. I haven't decided if it bothers me yet...
-
I am indiffernt to it and would probably support it's deletion there. If you check the discussion page it has turned a bit nasty in places so is not really worth the effort to fight a battle there. It just gives the people on wikipedia another headache. Let's keep the pitched battles in places where they belong. The last thing I want is retaliation type attacks on wikipedia

/me sighs
again? i'm going to say it bothers me. mostly becuase it feels like the zanzi's of wiki are doing this to other game and other topics. 9
-
Now that I've had some time to think, it does bother me, mostly because I remember the main dissenter has having once been a regular on #planeshift. Now I can't help but feel he has a personal vendetta against the project. Regardless, Acraig makes a lot of sense, and I will just let this go.

That article actually inspired me to join this game. Wow, people are getting really emotional over trying to delete it. 2 million pages, and a few people are raging over one article that is better than many others in the same catagory? I like Wikipedia, but sometimes it is really bad.
-
I just want to say LOL, its classed as not notable when there are games like supertux in Wikipedia which no one is debating as notable. Planeshift compared to supertux is far bigger :p
-
Well, the article was saved :)
-
There are biographies of obscure scientists on Wikipedia that are a date and a 4 words. Sometimes Wikipedia is bizarre
-
Ah but those scientists might be notable enough in their fields for very basic info but not enough to someone to bother writing an article.
-
Unfortunately I got there too late to contribute to the AfD discussion, but I still posted a few links to help further cement the "notability" requirement as being met. What is really needed is for somebody to re-write it using all the sources that have been found.
And on a side note, www.slashdot.org posted some news about people boycotting Wikipedia's fund drive because of their harsh notability policies and the cruelty of the editors that enforce them. And yes, those are weasel words :)
-
I'm glad I'm not the only one then who feels the same way about Wikipedia at the moment.
-
Well, it is fortunate that the article was saved. Everyone is partial to their own hobbys/likes/etc and everyone thinks something they have is notable. Unfortunately Planeshift is still on the verge of notable/non-notable and it will be brought up again if notability isn't established in the article. Furthermore, meatpuppeting ruled many of the votes from fans here moot. But thanks for bringing it up here so everyone can begin "improving" the article. Everyone is welcome to edit at Wikipedia but whoever **.**.**.** is, stop reverting and changing the article without reading about wiki policy, guidelines, and manual of style, your edits were reverted for a reason.

Whoa, I thought that guy (Link) was gone... Also, that's why you can never trust Wikipedia. Some obese retard kid in Japan could be screwing with it.
-
Gee golly. An here I was thinking wikipedia was all about looking something up that you wanted to know about.

It's a known fact that SpigotMap on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:SpigotMap) = Link (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=PlaneShift_%28video_game%29&diff=prev&oldid=83775774). Perhaps he just wants to get the article deleted to hide the evidence.
-
Personally I wouldn't think any game was particularly notable, unless perhaps it has survived 50+ years or something. Wikipedia has gone too far pandering to those who wish to chronicle popular culture. I mean really??? (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monster_mash)
They must be hurting over there with their crapulent donation page auto-refresh. How pathetic.
:offtopic: whats with the Elric impression UTM?

ROFL!

I like wikipedia. Not for actually researching topics. If you can't get free sources elsewhere that are ten times better then its wiki entery will be trash. Anyway, its fun to go and check out the featured page sometimes because they usually only feature factually accurate things and its nice to actually learn something new everyday. :)
-
Link, it is just you that thinks PlaneShift is not "known" or "notable". With about 8000 regular players and hundred thousands registered accounts, and articles everywhere in the net speaking about us, only a stone would not see we are known and notable. We are the only project which managed to reach such results with a free team, and we have a community that luckily supports us greatly. Don't you have anything better to do than vandalizing the PlaneShift page on wikipedia?
-

I'm sorry but I couldn't help it.
*points at quote then Talad's avatar.*
Anyway, I'd agree that it is notable. I mean it is cross platform and it crops up in just about every list of top MMORPGs I had come across before actually joining. Since then it has grown. On top of that, the very fact that it is a completely free graphical MMORPG with an emphasis on rp has be of some note.

Hello Talad, I have great respect for how far you have brought Planeshift and I assume you are one of the anons repeatedly adding unsourced information to the Wikipedia article. All I'm asking for is the article be sourced. I'm not the one who brought the article up for AfD, I only brought it up because another editor did not know how to post it. I'm all for adding sources and will help wikify them in to the article if sources can be found other then fan sites and 2-3 sentence magazine mentions.
-
Okay, myself and a few others including Talad have had a small meeting to discuss the article and have all come to a common ground that will be better for the project and the article. I have begun to re-write parts of the article to wikipedia standards, if anyone has concerns or needs help adding/changing information in the article feel free to contact me on IRC or here and I'd be happy to help. Thanks!
