Well, this happened just now. I was in the Kada El, angry at some irritating guy (actually everyone was, because he was spamming) for wielding claymores and shouting that he owned the bar (which could be classified as spam). He asked to duel with me because he didn't know how to challenge. I told him, but he didn't do it, and I continued to type /challenge. Suddenly I died after typing it again. He had said something about everyone being unable to defeat him, even if he was weaker, so I'm EXTREMELY FRICKIN' CURIOUS AND ANGRY about this.
What the heck is going on? This is the darndest stupidest thing that's happened to me so far, other than shooting up 30 miles into the air when I was in the Ojaveda Warehouse. I'd like to know if this is a terribly implemented anti-pking-noob thing, or if I'm bugging. Also, since it's highly OOC, could a GM teleport me back to the Kada El Tavern?
Thanks.
:@#\ :o :'(
Here's a picture of it (the guy who I was challenging is halfway through the door): http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/Shadeclaw/shot79.jpg (http://i206.photobucket.com/albums/bb176/Shadeclaw/shot79.jpg)

10 to 1 he had auto decline on. ;)
Which (ironically) would mean that when you kept challenging him, the anti-spam system got you. :P
-
That [insert nasty word here].
-
Ah I saw him top while I was online
Don't worry by the looks of things it seemed there where five other guys willing to take your place :P
-
Looks like he was right. perhaps you should have been less forceful and more farceful!

>:(
I need a virtual cuddle.

Please remember that it is against forum rules to make posts about the actions of specific players. Do try to be less quick to /challenge the next time and show more patience to newcomers. And if their behavior requires straightening and they ignore when you politely ask them to [stop], get a GM. Otherwise you're just making things worse.
Newcomers don't have to know it would not be the best idea to draw their weapons in the bar but experienced players should know that they can't shout "Put those weapons away!" without generating a "who the heck you think you are?" reaction from them, even if the command was issued IC it's more likely that they won't know the difference and therefore carry on a troll fight.
The same goes for those who say "Only English in the main tab!". Try being more patient and polite and you'll get better results.

Yeah, /challenging was a bad idea in the first place. UTM's approach was much better; treating them like children. Can't find the link now actually but I'm sure someone will.

Apparently you weren't there. Everyone was hatin' on the guy, as he'd been doing it for at least an hour... I don't know, but it seemed so. We'd had enough of him. I only challenged once it got to the point of his character becoming violent, and at first I thought he was roleplaying as if his character was insane.
-
If everyone was hating this guy and you'd all had had enough then it was time to ask for GM intervention. And if you find someone's RP is terrible or annoying you can choose to simply not to join in. Sounds like you were all feeding the troll instead.
I understand how disruptive such behavior can be and that you wanted to put an end to it. However, had you simply ignored the guy instead of challenging him and then ask a GM to step in if necessary, you wouldn't have ended up in the DR and the guy would've probably learned something about roleplay as well.
EDIT: Hmmm... this is a very odd place for this thread, btw.

Very odd! :P A move to perhaps General Discussion would be appropriate.

The initial post showed a question about something that happened which was totally unexpected and raisedconcern over whether it was a bug or not, hence location of initial post. From then on however, it has gotten off the path of a possible bug(as usual happens at some point in a threads life) and I have to agree possibly should be moved.

No, actually, this wasn't about the guy in the first place. This was about my character dying for no apparent reason when I challenged him. <.<
We thought he was being IC, so that's why no GM was called. He kept asking to duel, but didn't know how to type /challenge even after I told him, so that's why I challenged him so many times.

To others it would've shown as "Raa has been struck down by Laanx." Its the servers way of dealing with people that spam any command, be it dueling or marriages which is an adequate way in my opinion. In fact it has curtailed quite a few silly people I have witnessed.
-
I am not silly, though. I am NOT silly. >:( >:( >o)
-
You probably aren't, but none the less it has stopped many silly people from spamming normal players such as myself as I have witnessed first hand. In addition you shouldn't use more than three smilies in a row according to forum rules.
-
...Whatever. X-/

i'm willing to bet this person knew exactly what they were doing. they merely just said they didn't know how to use the challenge command so they could get you to do it and get struck down by the automatic spam filtering system. so they know the system well enough to know how to abuse it ooc'ly. and unfortunately you fell for their trap.
all i can suggest is to PM the chat log of the incident to the GM staff for review. in the future, just get a GM involved.
