Title: Drummers
Post by: Parallo on October 27, 2007, 11:21:57 pm
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sX_Iij8Eyts,

One of the best drummers I have ever seen. Feel free to refute me with better drummers. As a drummer I personally think I could never amount to David King but others may disagree. Feel free to prove yourself :P

Akira Jimbo!  \\o//

The super independent (co-ordination wise) drummer with a cool name who always looks like he's having a good time playing.

Messing around with triggers ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVlpueHo4ok  (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OVlpueHo4ok)

and

Afro-Cubano Lessons ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhjOrj0Sm6I (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AhjOrj0Sm6I) (skip to about minute 5 for an instant drummer inferiority complex :P)

He'd probably have my vote for the best but there are so many great drummers out there and so many different styles, impossible to actually pick just one. :)

Were it not for my brother being engaged to a Polish girl that would almost be fanning the flames of Irish vs. Polish racism which has started over the last year due to large amounts of Polish immigration. I love Polish culture so I don't really care though. If Emerald Fool was still around though, him being the lower class and all that, he might have a thing to say about all that... Its pretty funny that Irish people claim to have built new york and all that but don't see that one day Polish people will claim the same about Dublin.

As long as we're talking about drum prodigies...

Tony Royster Jr. back when he was just a 12 year old kid. ---> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX_1-W3PQH4 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AX_1-W3PQH4)

This clip (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aAv5FHXN354) does not do Ginger Baker justice, if you can get a hold of the eponymous (def: self titled) album Blind Faith and listen to the track "Do What You Like" it is something of a transcendent experience. The last three minutes is the drum solo in the clip. Of course it is basic kit and not the stuff they run around with these days.

Wow, sorry. I don't even remember writing that :(

I guess I was just mad. Someone in the pub was being totally racist towards Polish people. Yeah, thats embarrasing...

Anyway, swiftly  moving on... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sDYc5fVgB9U Jazz drumming is so much more a talent than regular drumming the coordination is like learning all over again from scratch. Its almost like a different instrument.

Best drummer?
Neal Peart-here (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fpg-d4Jk1Eo) doing a quick warmup.
Nice drum (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUICMEqdAlM) solo from him.
Also him playing some Buddy Rich (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1bIchqJoxFQ) at Richs' Memorial concert.

::Edit:: Also, best drum solo from a keyboard would be from this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aJCWziYxRVs) guy. " This is Rock and Roll!"

Pssh, you want awesome old-school drumming, I'll give you awesome old-school drumming. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrKShqNkcnI (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GrKShqNkcnI)

And in my opinion Buddy Rich was over-rated. :P But, honestly with how popular he was, how could he not be?
