As I was reading through these forums I do not recognize many players names from the beginning of the forum. So how long have you been playing? If you read the forums like I do even though you do not play anymore, what are your beginning and end dates?
If this has been done before, just delete the post, thank you.
Me first then:
Mathy: September 2006 to September 2007.
Leama: December 2006 to September 2007.
-
im playing since June 2006 and still do :)
-
I don't actually know. Maybe two years, maybe less?
-
Since 2005 so that would be almost three years now. Took some occasional breaks but I never stopped playing completely.
I won't bother anyone with all my characters since I don't remember when I first started most of them. I have had way too many anyway :P
-
I've been playing since the later days of Molecular Blue. I have no idea how long ago that was anymore :)
-
/me remembers well "It's was the day before my birthday and I couldn't sleep, It was midday 14th of March 2006, though not sure if i started playing right away. I remember being so scared of the DR that I deleted my first char after it came into it :P"
-
july 04... i think... yep july 04
-
13.9.2006 0:08:18 I got verification mail and joined. :)
-
16.6.2007 :) \\o//

July/August, 2006, I think.

(Tyrnal \m/)
Also started in 05, I forget which month.... I have left ps, twice actually, I never made a big show about it really. Just didn't know the plot (because I didn't read it) nor did I know how to get a weapon the first time through as a stonebreaker named sezrenade. then I left ps for about a month Eventually my sister asked what that game was one time when I was playing ti I replied 'nothing special'... She found it interesting looking and when I left the computer she looked it up, eventually finding one of UtM's stories, she became interested, and so she read the story behind planeshift, about laanx, talad, and such, she was so interested, thats he printed off the pages and kept them. She even told me about it and then *I* became interested. She was an enkidukai, and eventually I delted my dwarf and became one. That, was when I really learned how to play, I can go on for hours about my days in PS, the role plays that happened, the funny ooc stuff, and the many friends I've made, its a long tale that one...
A almost two years after this, I grew weary of PS... and left to play another mmorpg, it was fun too, had a lot of good memories there. But I found myself peeking back occasionally at what was going on in PS. Finally I couldn't help it, and I returned once more. And here I am. Tuesday, October 30, 2007.

May, 2006...? I think...
-
I started in late January 2004. :D
-
Feb '05. I think it was the 12th but I'm at work and hence can't access my verification email. It was CB .03.07. I've had my moments of inactivity, but I've never left.
-
November 5 2003
-
Wow, been almost 2 years now. :o
Deleted the confirmation email ages ago but it was either January or February of 2006, version 0.3.012.
-
well I started in 05 but that was only for a little while because our hard drive crashed and I was a total noob not only to PS but to RPG's in general and I got really bored one day and remembered that really cool game we once had and re down loaded in on my computer about a year ago this time and have sense been totally addicted. I have played several chars here and there, but I have yet to disappear for long. I really love the role play that PS has to offer. And I'll continue to be active in PS until my husband cuts off my internet connection or blocks fragnetics :'(
-
October 17th, 2006. I still have the logs. :D I've mainly played Silavur but an occasional alt has appeared from my accounts here and there. I've left a couple times that was really once with a short visit in between, but I was still gone for about 2 months. Killed me.
-
I started on april 2004
-
about 2 years, proberly over that these days, i have noting to confirm when i actually jumped on :-\
-
October 2003
And constantly, I have useless chars between the times where I have my awesome characters...
Except when I lost internet for a month or so...
Karyuu hated that...I got an earful when I got back
I miss thebbb.tk

Been playing since 28 May 2006, and loved every second of it! \\o//
-
I'm around since the last weeks of MB, maybe four weeks before CB was released. Wow ... that are nearly 3 years...
-
Started 5 or 6 days ago aroundish....not exactly sure how long cause coincidently i have not slept much since i started.... :woot:
-
I registered three years ago, but the total time I've been playing Planeshift is about four years.
-
Jan 20, 2006, 5:20pm was the date i registed on the Dark showdows forum witch was about 2 days after joining ps
date registed on this forum January 16, 2007, 07:50:48 AM
-
Downloaded MB just in time for CB to be released so never got to log on then struggled with the linux client from v01-v05 till finally had v06 running in early Feb 05
-
Late Oct./early Nov. 2005, so just about exactly 2 years.
-
I don't really play anymore but I started late January 05... I know this because i made a forum account the day I started to ask why it told me I was using the wrong version... I was told to run the updater :P
-
Does playing count as downloading AB and creating a name for it, and then never using it?
If so, then whenever that was.
-
July 2004, I remember all i did on that time was congratulate a kran called Acraig on the work, there wasn't that much else to do.
-
I have been playing since August of 2005 :)
-
Leama I would happily turn this into a poll but it seems many have already posted.
Dec 2005 for me.
-
My forum account dates from November 2003. I think I started playing early that year, or later the year before. In 2002 was my first try.
-
Xillix,
Thank you for taking a moment of your valuable time to talk to me. I always hear how all the old players are gone and how the game has changed. (I wonder how it has changed) I wanted to see if this is in fact correct.
Be well,
Leama.
-
I started playing June of 2006. Made Duraza around September along with this fourm account. Wow, so thats only a year....I feel so young to ps ;D
-
Mm...2 years and 7 monthes. I think that's pretty accurate. :P
-
Xillix, make a new post with a poll perhaps, and then close this one after leaving a link?
-
does forum lurking/hanging out on irc count as playing? if so release of CB.
-
Nearly a year here!
-
...as Eurac anyway!
-
Leame, PlaneShift has changed a lot, and keeps changing slightly.
Players leaving, guilds disbanded, new players joining and new guilds formed. Previously we had lots of bickering going around here too, that seems to have been less noticeable lately. Good thing.
There weren't discussions about powerlevelling before. There weren't discussions about much besides who thought who ruled and who camped at what gem spawn.
-
Eh. I disagree. Not much has changed since the game became playable. And by playable I mean you didn't fall through the ground every 5 seconds.
-
This thread is for the people to answer, “How have you been playing?” Please do not go off topic. I would love to see a thread for people to state how they think the game has changed or evolved over the years and why: both the physical game and the players themselves.
Thank you,
Leama.
-
How long you mean Leama? And I agree, don't turn this into anything but what it is :) Tis a simple thing, don't make it complicated :/
A few of the old players seem to be coming back though :D
-

You're a bit contradictory here...

Sometime during Fall 2002, I don't remember exactly what month any more. No, my Rings of the Past are not for sale.

Indeed. I actually started on it on her behalf.
-
Eh. I disagree. Not much has changed since the game became playable. And by playable I mean you didn't fall through the ground every 5 seconds.
Perhaps for you but, for many people the game is nothing like it used to be. From friends gone to guilds dispersed. The game has taken on a much less community driven approach than it had when I was a noob.
And Leama just wants the primary focus to be on how long people have been playing and wants to make sure that that topic isn't lost in the much larger "what has changed" topic.
stop being so picky, people
-
April 2003 though I'm not really playing anymore.
Leama I would happily turn this into a poll but it seems many have already posted.
Sounds like a good idea, is it possible to simply change the type of this thread to a poll and keep the posts?
*looks around* Oh. So it's Waylander now? ;)
Maybe it's simply because the community is bigger that old players feel that way. Much has been written on the "gone/change" issue in these forums, Leama, it's not an easy one.
-

Uh. Sangwa was replying to her post. I think it's a bit disrespectful to criticize someone for being off-topic when he was just trying to give his perspective on an issue she brought up...that's all.
April 2003 though I'm not really playing anymore.
Hey Cad, good to see ya. (This is Kiern, btw)
-
Waterman,
I certainly think we have a voice here in these forums, for that matter that is what they are for. Many threads go off topic and loose their appeal and I did not want that to happen here. All I was interested in seeing in this thread is how long people have been playing because it seemed to me that many ‘older’ players are now gone from what I read in the RIP section. From this I did want to do a thread of the opinions of people and how the game has changed in the time they have played. That is another day though. I hope many more people will respond to this thread first. I had also hoped that my thread ‘say thank you’ would have gotten a bigger response also. My threads are written here for both the interest of the players and the game.
Thank you all who have responded to my posts. I miss you all in game greatly and I wish all my friends well.
Leama
-
Hey Kiern, glad you're still there! Stirring trouble again, eh?
What with you all? No wonder there's a feeling oldbies are leaving. They're simply changing name! ;)
Leama, I'm looking forward to this thread you're brewing, could be interesting to compare the opinions of different "generations". Expect some rantings and ramblings though! (but isn't that what we all love to do from time to time?)
-
Fair enough, Leama. I am still curious as to what constitutes "playing" Planeshift though. Because there was a community back before there was even a released version of the game (with guilds, etc.), does that count?
Hey Kiern, glad you're still there! Stirring trouble again, eh?
What with you all? No wonder there's a feeling oldbies are leaving. They're simply changing name! ;)
I thought it was silly to have a fantasy name when I didn't play the game, and I also decided not to leave the Off-Topic forum since I'm not qualified to discuss Planeshift as it is now. So in essence, Kiern is gone.
-
Waterman,
By playing I mean taking part in the game as a player. I know some people are part of ‘teams’ whereby they work in PS and do not play. For this thread I wanted to see if there were many people still playing from years gone by. Again I mean actively going in the game to play, be it power leveling or role playing. So therefore by using the word ‘play’ I mean having an active presence in game. As for myself I have an active presence in the forums only because I no longer play the game, therefore I have a begin date and an end date. If the day ever comes when I can play again, I would gladly come back here and write a new start date.
So I ask this: How long have you had an active presence in the game of Planeshift?
Thank you,
Leama.
-
i joined on September 11 2004
-
*looks around* Oh. So it's Waylander now? ;)
Yes, and I usually go by Khado (Cadoras... Cad... Cado... Khado) :P
I got tired with being angry at people who called me Cad xP
-
Since early 2006, Can't be sure as my verification e-mail has long since disappeared. ;)

Makes sense. Ok then, take my original answer and change it to "never".
Yes, and I usually go by Khado (Cadoras... Cad... Cado... Khado) :P
You were Nurahk? I didn't know that. Would've picked on him more.
As for me, if I ever change names again it will be back to "Kiern". But that won't be happening.
-
So I ask this: How long have you had an active presence in the game of Planeshift?
Ah, right. Then it would be active in the game from April 2003 to March 2005-ish, the rest was too sporadic or in another universe entirely. Darn, I burnt out pretty fast (to the relief of some, I expect :P).
I got tired with being angry at people who called me Cad xP
Same here!
As for me, if I ever change names again it will be back to "Kiern". But that won't be happening.
But still, you considered it ;)
-
Um...late 2005ish...
Emphasis on the '-ish' :)
-
I have been playing for ages, at least since just after breakfast.
-
Well, it was a tuesday two weeks ago that I downloaded and started playing PS...so yup. Two weeks and a day.
I'm still relatively new, aren't i?
-
I have been not player for over a year.
Lurking for about 3?
-
I started playing late August 2005 but with frequent time-outs after February 2006.
When I first started playing the experience was new and refreshing but soon after around 6 months I started to loose interest. This was mainly due to during that time the friends I had made in-game were playing less frequently or very little. After which I tried to revive my enthusiasm and inspiration by attempting to become part of others story's/RP's etc, but found them mostly to be closed groups at the time. I've never been much interested in training/levelling, preferring 100% RP when and where possible.
Recently i've been, or at least attempting to, keeping updated on any changes, on-going events/RP's/story's via the forum and logging in-game for a few hours a week but I hope soon to increase that to a few hours a day.
-
Around September 2004
-
I started playing February of '05-ish, took a years break, played from march of 06 until February of 07, where I then was deceased because my bloody computer can't take it anymore. >o). It's still the funnest game I've ever played.
-
It's... *sniff* beautiful...
Kiern, CadRipper, and Sangwa are, I think, the only people here who have me significantly beat in PS age... Not sure about ThomPhoenix, and I think Mordaan was close on my heels. End of January, 2004 is when I started... and boy was I a n00b.
The game has changed significantly since then. For the better in terms of game mechanics and what-not, but in some ways for the worse in community. It's weird to think of all I've been through around here, and that nowadays barely anybody knows who I am. I miss Ashes, and the AO, and Kada's, and the Athenaeum... *sigh* Good times.
Kiern, CadRipper, come back.
-
:D June 2005 is when I made Zorbels the character and joined planeshift. Been around ever since. After GMing for abit, I did take a break from Planeshift for awhile. Now I have returned, and I am rather enjoying myself. Most of my friends have come and gone but roleplay still lives on, and where roleplay is ... I am! I love this place .... even with all it's faults.
-
and boy was I a n00b.
That's a good point. I stayed a n00b until somewhere around 2005 :P
-
meh, figured I'd finally respond.
first time i downloaded the PS client and went to the forums, this thread was currently being discussed: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=850.0
but, as i soon found out, there was nothing to do (at least in my mind) sooo I said, sounds like a neat project, I'll check back on it in a few years.
first time I really started to play, was right around the time Zorby made her PS appearance. and I haven't left since.
-
Kiern, CadRipper, and Sangwa are, I think, the only people here who have me significantly beat in PS age...
Huh? Was Sangwa playing under different nick or something? Otherwise I think even Khado was around longer than he.
Edit: Ah, I've seen the post. Psh, it's all cheats >.>
-
I think I was 15 when I first played Planeshift, early Alpha. 3-4 years i'd say. I've been active in this community since 2 years back:)
-
June or July 2004
I miss the old school days <3
RIP MB
PS: Just checked some stats, I still own like 1.9% of all the posts in the Hydlaa plaza ;D
-
I came to IRC in early 2002, these boards around April '02. Played AB the day it came out along with everyone else that was here, and I've been waiting for an update since then... the others couldn't hold out.
-
Ever since March 05...for some reason the game seemed a lot funner back then, probably because it was my first 3D MMO (Runescape was my starter...ugh). I didn't know much about the game, people kept begging me to leave, I didn't know what roleplay was until about a year later. xD
-
Ever since March 05...for some reason the game seemed a lot funner back then........
I am thinking it is becasue back then this was a small tight everyone knew everyone community. We also had to use our imaginations more due to not having enough implimented in game. Today in planeshift it is a whole other generation of players with only a few from back in the day still around. I find that the more they impliment in game the less people have to use their imaginations and the more focus goes into leveling and quests. I don't think some of these players understand that you can power level and do quests but in a roleplaying type manner. Anyway a year from now when some of these newbies will become more established in the game, we will be hearing that same statement you made coming from their mouths. It's truth when they say history repeats itself.

wow do you realize how 'old' you sound when you say that? It makes you sound like a grandparent complaining about the invention of the TV and Internet....
"Back in my day.....we had to play with corn-shuck dolls and pretend they looked half as nice as you young'ns barbie dolls...and your grandpa didn't have hot wheel-toy-cars, he drove the real thing at your age...."
I think the RP will come back, but as soon as we get our char's feet established with the correct 'stats' for their desired part....if that makes any sense. >.<
-
If you think she sounds old, then you haven't been paying attention.
-
It was during CB 0.3.012 when I found PS. Around Sept. 2004, right? May have to check my oldest logs at home.
It is my first and still only MMORPG. Before I knew at most the Gothic SP-RPG series. And I hated NetHack & Co.
-

Had to be Sep 2005. CB was introduced on Christmas 2004 as I recall.

:) Funny you should read it like that. I was just giving an example of how it used to be when I was active 24/7.
I don't know if the rolepay will be as strong as it was before, but here's hoping. *Crosses her fingers* Really it just take the community being less immature about certain issues and working around what they "Can't have yet or ever."

it was meant as a joke, but apparently it didn't come out that way. I'm sorry. I wouldn't say that the community is less mature (or are you talking about immature age-wise?), rather we are the ones who grew up with toys and such that required less usage of the imagination and being handed pre-packaged food....Off topic. I'm sorry.
-
It was meant as a joke, but apparently it didn't come out that way. I'm sorry.
;D I know it was a joke, that's why I got the paper throwing smilie! I would throw paper at you in RL if you said that to me. :P No worries, and don't be sorry. Pfffft me old! As if!

/me chuckles
we all know Lady Z is sensitive about being in her 20's

If you're married, you're old. End of discussion.
Hard to believe PlaneShift's been around so long.
-
If you're married, you're old. End of discussion.
Sounds like you are speaking from experience? If you are sucks to be you.
I find what makes me feel old is being around people who are negitive or depressed all the time. Or talking about a concert I went to that no one knows who I am talking about. Or talking about an awesome movie that the young people have never heard of. *Shrugs* Marriage doesn't make me feel old at all, only loved.
[Edit] Sorry going off topic .... :( I need a slap on the wrist with the no off topic stick. :offtopic:
-
Grarf, that was a joke, but whatev. And I'm a little too young to be married on my planet.

That's young for my race of Martians. Nuff off topic.

Well aren't you a blast from the past? o.O
Good to see you, though you probably won't remember me. :P
If you do it's back when I started playing (bad memories).
-
Guess I started round October 2005 or there 'bouts. Been lurking around ever sense and what not.
-
hmmm received my account verification Sun Dec 25, 2005.
So makes it a little over 3 years with breaks in between, looking forward to seeing the dawn of this new age!

I play PS since 14 December 2007 :D
-
Originally joined in 2006 spent i night wandering around and didn't go back, rediscovered PS in April 2007
played til my puter burned out (power supply and motherboard).
Will resume when I replace this 450mhz AMD K6 2 with a real puter.
-
I've been around for about 18 months but I can't really remember a time before PS. Of course there have been various versions, and hopefully with this newest one, the bl**dy grass will have gone.
-
Just started 'bout 3 weeks ago.
-
playing like 5 years maybe a bit more.(watching forum quite long but didnt register)
-
Been watching the game for years. Playing it since... I dunno early stages, when we had only a few weapons, a few maps and not much else.
Quite a while.
