Title: What's up with the arena?

I went there and there was a bunch of animals and one npc besides gladiators.  Are you justt supposed to fight the animals or is there organized fighting?

No organised fighting yet, for now you just fight whatever's fightable  ;) There are some other NPCs their that you can buy/sell from and also train and receive quests.

There had been lots of competitions, usually organised by Proglin the Entertainer. May he rest in peace... And may this profession not die with him.

There are sometimes organized competitions, but they are done by the community. Someday tournaments might be coded into the game mechanics.

There is an interesting book on the Arena in Jayose's library, you should go read it.
