I always wanted to see an MMORPG with the main part of roleplaying: conversations!
I've tried some, but they were all the same:
you see an NPC - you can recognize him/her on standing still and having any pointless or too unique name.
you talk to that person and get told about a problem and get asked if you would like to solve it and get offered a reward.
you collect items, kill beasts, talk to people or deliver items and come back to get your reward.
and there's nothing about talking anyways...
does anyone know the classics? Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Gothic, etc.
where you really had to decide what to ask a person or what to answer.
i really miss that.
i couldn't really find out if Planeshift would be one of the good RPG-games or just another one in the line of WOW and silkroad, guildwars etc.
I really like the kind of convo in this game - npc reacting on anything talked to them...
please build it up :)
I'm just installing the current version of PS ;)

You should read around the forum. PS is t3h rox0rz ov hte r0l3playzig
Yes, it's awesomely anti-WoW (even if that is a cool game).

Don't roleplay with NPCs, roleplay with the people!
Planeshift strives to be a roleplaying game and it has many great roleplayers within the community but also other types of players. So I suggest you explore the world and the community in-game. There is something for every type of player and roleplayers definitely enjoy a lot of encouragement here.
-
but i want the NPCs to react more like humans...
like they did in those great games...
having more choice of answers to give them...
-
Why would you want to talk to NPCs...? They're only the boring ones.
-
Well NPCs are just there for getting items and quest really, though I agree about more responce from NPCs.
But hey you have loads of players to RP never forget the imagination of a RPer ;)

Funny...I don't seem to recall anyone sending in any NPC responses they'd like to see lately.
Someone link my thread asking for top tens please?
Edit: Never mind, here it is: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=29353.0
And yes, we've been working hard on it. Some of my personal favourites:
Have you asked Jayose if he can recommend a book?
Have you asked Allelia to give you gossip?
Have you bought Narwin Molstagh's story?
Have you asked Amidison or Datal about the Vigesimi?
-
NPCs are anything but boring. They reveal an awful lot about the game. If you ask them if you can have a quest what do you expect other than a silly menial task?
Edit: http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=29353.0 There ya go!

Try conversing with the rogue sometime :D

Just got NeverwinterNights2 and yeah it's indeed one of the few games that still gives me that true RP feeling.
PS is good to but personally it doesn't do to well on that front. And don't look at me that way you all know the quests have ways and ways to go before you can ever compare it to neverwinternights and that isn't even counting the absolute awesome amount of servers and stories you can chose online in the RPG section.
I like many aspects of the PS universe better though and the community is obviously the unbeatable thing ;) The only thing I am really missing in PS atm (although much is added at the moment by a great effort of the settings team) is information on how the universe works.
I personally would love to have some official stories taking place in the PS universe with example how things like weddings and such are. To really immerse in the same world with eachother.
-
Which is why the game is still in development!
That's why NPCs aren't perfect. If we follow the NPC10 Rule, then they could truly become responsive to nearly everything we ask. In fact, I'll do that when I'm able to log on... maybe. If I remember. :whistling:
It's also why there isn't a complete, full, weddings and such environment, unless you get into the community. I ran into the housing sale the other day. That was interesting (and saddening, as I was pulling the 5 trias out of my pocket whilst watching millions trade hands).
Oh money... :'(

Actually, you just PM me in the forums here...but you'll need to write three more messages to do so.
Why not go to the roleplaying threads and fill that out? ;)
-
well, today i found what you mean by saying "the community" :)
and you're right: it is a great RP-Community :)
that issue about the NPCs will improve as it seems \\o//

No doubt. All you have to do is help us help you. Feel free to ask anyone who's sent me top tens what happens after they send them to me. (Usually the NPC improves, and sometimes you're told your queries are a little too esoteric.)
-
Yep, I can vouch for that. Send Jeraphon a list of questions and you'll see improvement with NPCs very fast. ;D
-
I enjoy you mentioning "Gothic". As a german, I love to play especially the first 2.5 versions, and lots of mods...
Developers are busy, and a "faction" system is just being introduced - so it will become more and more important how you will behave to which kind of habitants.
