Title: Updating?
Post by: meelee10 on November 12, 2007, 12:34:02 am
I JUST, today, for the first time downloaded Planeshift. I love the idea, the story, and the entire concept of having an MMORPG where the RPG portion matters.

But there's a problem.

I cannot update. I start the updater, and mir1, 2, 3, and backups don't connect/have a certain file. I try Recovery Mode, it doesn't even start.

I figure that it might not matter to update, so I tried to login. It wouldn't let me. I had to update it. So, here I am. Stuck.

Waiting to play the game I've been looking for for the last year or two.

And I'm stuck.

Any suggestions? I'm trying my hardest NOT to reinstall it.

Alright, I know you hate the idea of uninstall reinstall but that'd be my next suggestion.

Though it wont be an issue if you saved the install program to disk.

Ah it worked? :D

Well anyways the tutorial in game will help you understand how to play, if you need any help us the Help channel tab... Also you can configure your controls int he options tab... (Which I always do whenever I reinstall the game as imo I don't like the basic control system) XD

Also if you need any help type /tell Chorval (message here)

And I will be glad to help out with any question, welcome to PS!

As of now the updater is not working, if you can start the game, just do so and enjoy. In other words, don't worry about the updater :D

Well if you have the install file saved to disk, it should be relatively easy. But if your problem persists then something else may be wrong... More or less..... probably not with your client I'd guess.

...great. I've spent all my time on several different mirrors trying to download, and it's saying it has an "Error opening File for writing".

When does it say "Error opening file for writing"?

It's just about to install, when the aforementioned error pops up.

There are several, but the first one spicifically says: C:\Program Files\Planeshift Crystal Blue\updater.exe

I'll double check my files, but I'm pretty sure I uninstalled all of it beforehand.

EDIT: Looks like when I uninstalled, some files didn't get deleted. Apparently I don't have permission to download them (I'm the Administrator, which is weird).

Still, once it downloads, I'll tell you what happened.

I have the same problem. Just tried to reinstall after re-downloading and the exact same thing happened.

Well, it downloaded. In a brilliant, laggy show, I went to the Character Creation. No details for the model, just barely colored polygons. I absolutely HATE Vista.

I have everything else up to par. I should get more RAM though. Siiiiiigh....

Onto the next forum to see if there's anything else I can do (I went into the game, same problem. Except those barely-colored polygons kept changing as I had to take thirty minutes to FINALLY get the cursor to the settings, where (not to my surprise) there was nothing that could help me).

Vista's OpenGL support is terrible and many Vista users cannot play PS properly until they use better drivers for their video card.  Otherwise, they get similar problems like you described.

I'm re-installing XP. I can't stand Vista anymore.
