Title: armor repair esp. with respect to kran
Post by: bilbous on November 17, 2007, 07:50:06 pm
I have had the skill for a long time now since before it worked I think and having heard that it works I decided to try it today. I really did not have a clue as to how it might work since you cannot put it in your hand to repair as you would a weapon. No matter I tried /repair leather gloves ... didn't work but got me an informative error message which allowed me to refine my attempt to /repair gloves which also got me an informative error message which indicated that I had hit upon the proper procedure but lacked sufficient skill to perform the action. I then tried to /repair my boots (plate) and was insufficiently skilled to do that. I then asked on the help channel just what I could repair with level 0 armor repair and was informed leather boots. This is all good. My complaint is that as a kran wearing leather at all is merely decorative in function (it is not as good as my skin which does not need repair) and so I will have to wear it anyway to be able to efficiently train my armor repair, at least the boots, anyway. I suppose this is a disadvantage that one must accept in balance for the tough skin advantage. I now know why so many kran are in motley.

Ah yes, I have the same problem.  I do hope that someday my boots will be worn just from my travels.  Currently I can only repair them about once a month, and the rest of my armor is showing from my lack of repair skill.

Repairing other peoples equipment be it armor or weapons is not as efficient as repairing your own because you can pause in the training grounds to repair every little nick or scratch and go back to training whatever else. If you are really good you might get away with setting up a repair stall and getting people to leave you their stuff but I find they typically want extensive repairs done on difficult items. My experience has been with weapons mostly where I'll be asked to repair an item that is 0/50 and which takes 15+ minutes to repair 5 points. When I started weapon repair a dagger took less than a minute, starting armor repair now, leather boots take 100 seconds. Many people will just buy new ones and sell the old for an 80% discount.

I do agree that boots in particular should wear from normal use without ever needing to go into battle to scuff them up. It just makes sense.

I have another complaint about armor repair, not too serious but, it seems that to make a shortcut for armor repair you really need a set of shortcuts. Now there is no lack of shortcut spaces, for me, at least, but I am wondering if there is or will be any way to make a generic shortcut /repair armor which will look at equipped armor and repair whatever is damaged one piece per use. What I would like is to just have the one generic shortcut instead of several specific.

While we are on shortcuts I would like to be able to switch hands with my weapons so that once I finish repairing the one in my right hand I can swap the left hand weapon in for repairs with a shortcut. Either that or take the above suggestion and allow either weapon to be repaired regardless of which hand it is in.

I suppose neither of these ideas are likely.

try putting all the repairs in the same shortcut but on different lines, eg:

/repair boots
/repair gloves
/repair arms
/repair legs
/repair torso
