I am running Ubuntu 7.10
with lastest updates
Athlonxp 3000+ 32 bit
1 gig ram
6800gt agp
sound blaster 5.1 ls
Mobo A7n8x-e deluxe
raptor 36 gig hd sata
This happens ramdomly textures are not displayed and instead I get pretty colored checkers. lol
This applies to the background as while as char textures.
Any one else out there having this occur?
-
How often do you get this? It's known that some textures simply refuse to load, like many grass/bush textures.
-
I get this quite often, lots of armor has no texture, though people wear it. Occasionally the tunnel to the magic shop will be partially or completely checkered. It is not out of the ordinary. Before the checkers were black and white, the colors are a nice change ;)
-
The area from the main castle to the magic shop is the wort first this.
I would say 100% of the time the bushes dont load.(The only exception to this is if i quit in that area and the game starts there.)
10% of the time the hills a long with the bushes don't load.
I would say that 20% of the time some player textures fail to load.
Player textures fail randomly the area of the map doesn't seem to matter.

To be clear about the armor, kran leather has no texture and is always that checkerboard I call motley. The female elves such as the hide dealers wife outside jayose library also have no textures for some of their armor and appear in the motley.
I lose some of the textures along that path once in a while but it hasn't been too bad for me lately.
I suspect it may have something to do with processing power or bandwidth but that is just a guess
Perhaps there should be a /reloadtextures command similar to the /repaintlabels.

there have been changes to the material manager in svn, i am not sure if this was client side or server side though, some of that should fix this problem. retest after the next client release.

I'm pretty sure this isn't fixed in SVN yet. Let's see if we can prod someone about it.
