Title: How much of 'you' in 'yours'?
Post by: Liadan on November 28, 2007, 01:16:57 am
It's not that complicated, really.

How much of you is in your character(s) in PS?

I'll start:

Liadan: Humour. That's all me there. Same hair, skin and eye colour (both ash brown, pale, with blue/grey eyes).

Remoe: Her attitude adjustment that is desired and tom-boyness is from me.

The pointy ears, the habit to run around with a bow, a quiver partially filled with gold-layered arrowheads and the attitude to fight authority!

The latter at least more or less rudimentary..;)

Finally a nice thread to write an answer to.

Well, let me think. oh yeah, We have one thing in common. I am short too. I have been told good things come in small packages, haha.

the sarcasm, the laziness are me. the songs not so much, I lean toward poetry more than songwriting. and the drunkeness is definitely not me

Thanks Suno, you reminded me!
As I meet people running around with scythes on their backs quite often here in the city, I almost forgot that one.. =P
Fight them!

So complicated for me, I'm the nicest guy in the world  :P

Xeonart: His teenage mood swings, arrogance (on a lesser level  ;D ), and overall smart mouth attitude came from me when I was in high school up until senior year when I became nice.

Duraza: His ability to really get under people's skin and into their heads with fancy words and little or no information is purely mine. Plus his determination to stick towards the same goal and his will to accomplish it no matter how the odds are agaisnt him. Lastly is how persuasive he is. A lot more like him than I thought  ;D

As I meet people running around with scythes on their backs quite often here in the city, I almost forgot that one.. =P

I'm still the first person I've known to use a scythe on ps so I call starting the trend  :P

there's gotta be something you based your character on that's from yourself. Even if it's the tendency to be at the tavern ;)

 Zorbels character description (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=21466.msg261633#msg261633)

Desciption: Hmmmm, let me see ...... I am tall. I have good posture. My eyes are the same color as Zorbels, only hers are more exotic. I used to have very long hair when I first started planeshift, so Zorbels and I had that in common until I cut it.

Personality:  I am kind and I do care more than I probably should about things and people. I can be quite the trouble maker when I am left unchecked. Some describe Zorbels as hot headed. Well that's me in a nut shell when I think I am in the right. I like the same colors as Zorbels and I am afraid of heights like her. I also like to draw and paint. That about sums up what I have in common and how much of me is in my character.

Thanks for starting this delightful thread. I always wondered how much of "ourselves" we carry in our characters. I didn't really see how much of me was in my character until asked this question.

Anumesa looks nothing like me hehehe except maybe eye color. She definately has my sarcasm and sense of humor, though i think she is more of a wimp then me (or not...)

Oh, I've figured one thing: a six pack! Anarkia and I have a six pack.  >o) But I could probably own her in a fight...

Hmmm wow, well I guess there is lots of me in Izzy, or she'd be a better true outlaw, if you get to know me ooc, even ask some of my victims I picked on, I am very nice and friendly, then again Izzy uses that to her advantage....But actually I tired to base Izzy less like me unlike my other char's I've done in the past...but in the end she's a bit like me as well.

I do however have a char that is nothing like me...

Greswold has my good spirit, but not my good moral guidance :innocent:

I guess that's it. I don't have a beard, but I am quite short if physical similarities count.
Title: Re: How much of 'you' in 'yours'?
Post by: Mordraugion on November 28, 2007, 10:14:22 am
Hmm interesting,
Hoki started many years ago when I knew very little of roleplay so is mostly me with an added self confidence I don't possess.
Zinn, I  started him off to be as far from me as I could get, but gradually my personality has come through so now both Hoki and Zinn have my sense of loyalty and commitment.
Title: Re: How much of 'you' in 'yours'?
Post by: Zan on November 28, 2007, 11:06:21 am
Zan: Basically a philosophical wizard version of me. (Same reason as Mordraugion, I started out with him.)
Giorn: Nothing like me, he's always cheerful, loves working and speaks with a funny accent. (Stereotypical dwarven miner)
Hwnae: Has my leadership and tactical skills, as well as his sense of honour and respect, but his personality is darker and grumpier than I am. (I find it actually therapeutic to play him.)
Grayne: Nothing like me, he is wicked, overconfident and has no respect for life. (Totally evil is very challenging for me.)
Others: I rarely play with them so I'm not mentioning them here.

~80%:

+ Mr. Nice Guy
+ very educated
+ sometimes a smartass
+ thinking too much
+ overlooking from a distance
+ not really hero and leader
+ too normal to be attractive?!

- in a better physical shape
- slightly richer
Title: Re: How much of 'you' in 'yours'?
Post by: Meredee on November 28, 2007, 01:55:59 pm
Nice thread.

Im not very experienced in role-playing games so it's easier for me to base my character on me. So for example my general attitude to life and other people is the same as Meredee's ;) She is physycally weak and hates running, she has the same oppinion about the religion, she loves being in the nice places (like North Tower, BD), she loves birds, she likes to try and see new things, she's impatient etc.

Some of the differences are:
- I would never kill anybody ;-) and she regularly spends some time in the arena
- I dont poke people and dont stick apples on their horned helmets (and it's not only because people dont wear them irl ;) )
- she pouts all the time, I dont.
- she hates fish / I eat fish once a week :-)
- she is fascinated with magic.. I dont believe in magic
- she gave up metallurgy because it takes too much time to learn it... I wouldn't do it. Well, I wouldnt start learning metallurgy in the first place ;)
- she pays a lot of attention to her finger nails.

Recently Im trying to RP more things that I wouldnt do irl :-)

I share what some people might call cynicism with my characters. Generally I'm worse than them for it. Other than that, none really.

edit: In fact Parallo in particular is very different from me. He is training to become a priest of Laanx and tries to indoctrinate small children where as I myself am completely non-theist. :P
Title: Re: How much of 'you' in 'yours'?
Post by: Garris Shrike on November 28, 2007, 05:09:58 pm
Heh. There was alot of me in Garris, but alot of role-play also.

-Garris was a debater of sorts, not on the level of Phinehas or Parallo, but he would openly debate others in taverns. I do that alot when I'm actually thinking
-Garris was a kind of loner, although he had strong ties to his clans and his friends, mainly Blayze and Nefert. And Duraza, later on. Yeah, that's me written all over it. Although I am more of a party animal than garris O--).
-Garris enjoyed a good fight. Not so much so for me, although.... :whistling:
-Garris enjoyed sword-arts. Yeah, most definitely me, I sometimes wish I had been born back in the swordfighting days, geek that I am :sweatdrop:
-Garris was very physical. Yeah, I tend to enjoy some fun athletic stuff, like hockey and soccer.
-Garris pwned. That's me.

Overall probably Garris was based more on my other characters in other games which were developed slowly, and with care. I was alwayhs of the opinion that Blayze and good ol' Nef held me back from becoming a totally "evil" character, but I was disgruntled with that. Duraza finally pulled me over to his side, and then I promptly had to leave. :'( eh.
60% me.

He was basically a more mature and more skeptical me.

Which is why he owned all of you :P

Post by: Socius Rockus on November 28, 2007, 06:48:34 pm
Socius: Lazyness, eager to learn/control, friendliness, some sort of my moral values (though different because of Yliakums difference to RL) Basically me, if I would live in Yliakum (i hope). A Average 'Joe' who likes to dream and does his best for what he thinks needs it (Probably slightly more advanced in language skills then me :sweatdrop:)
Midisa: Naive, Socialistic thoughts, though Midisa has an extreem form ;)
Esilet: my artistic skills  (xD) and trouble making skills, laying her finger on the sore spots and neglect her own ;)
Most others aren't really that related to me, but that's what i like about em :P

You got lucky and you know it!  So lucky, too.  And Nostra tried to kill you.  Nurahk just didn't stop him :P

Anyways, you reminded me of my other characters SO!

Armeen: Nothing, he's nice, respectful and loves helping people... he's basically the anti me :P
Cadoras: Everything... I miss him :( ... most people who know Nurahk do, too
Khado: For the little while I RPed him - Nothing.  He was mischievous and tons of fun, though.
Oralen: Nothing, he's old and nice, though he may or may not have a very big secret... who knows?
Nostra: >.>  He's basically what used to come out of me whenever I wrote.  Luckily, that has changed.
And my newest character, who can be seen ingame but whose name non of you get to know because I'm cool like that:  Absolutely nothing.  He wants to kill all of you but, you won't suspect a thing.  He's cool like that.

(most of my hundreds of alts fall into one of the above descriptions)

For those who are curious:  Yes Nurahk will return.  Just not anytime soon.  (You'll get your chance to kill him, Zorbels :P )

Serq: Everything, mostly. Kind of. Both tell long stories, have the same language, and have similar personalities, although I can't sing quite as well, and Serq happens to be a better fighter. And also there's that whole 'catnip' thing that I invented before I discovered rping, and I keep it around to avoid contradicting myself. And it leads to random silliness, eh Anarkia? :-[

Edit: I managed to forget my Alts. Who could forget FurnaceSpirit MonsterThing, a kran that I hid inside of Harn's Furnace and had conversations with smithers for 3 hours? After a while some people went crazy, and later a gm informed me that Furnacespirit is an Out Of Settings Name. Oops, that never crossed my mind. Vobika is his new name. That was totally me. I am a furnace in RL  :P

I have 7 alts, and I play none of them anymore. I don't remember their personalities, 'cept Vobika's

  • Odessa Wildfire: Impatient, Driven, Stubborn & Unforgiving - :-[ Odessa was very much like myself.
  • Alhana: Cold, Logical and Uncaring - A hell of a lot of fun to play and somewhat like myself. ::)
  • Kitera: Cynical, Moody & Deceptive - Again, somewhat like myself.

So to sum it up: you are an impatient, unforgiving, uncaring, stubborn, cold, cynical and moody person who is very driven and logical?  :P

Chorval... lets see... bipolar-ness... I guess how one day I can be a nice guy, and the next I can be your worst nightmare... He seems to have adopted that.

His weakness for power is something I kinda pulled from a video game of sorts.. the mere idea that a necromancer would sacrifice his soul to gain power reminds me of the way Chorval is so willing to do horrible deeds just to gain a little strength or wisdom.

His grit rough-n-ready attitude is a lot like mine. Not afraid to get the hands dirty, and his hate for the lazy, and the rich.

Hey I never said I was a good person... but in truth I think I have shaped myself a little... As disappointing to myself as it is.

I also created Silavur when I didn't know much of RP. I knew to talk like your character, but he didn't have a story or a personality of mine. So he started out very much like me. But to rectify this horrible horrible error, I have molded Sil's life through his experiences in game and given him a few from his past to create the Silavur that most of you know. Silavur is smoother than glass... I am, when I have a little vodka in me so that's where that side comes from. He's a great salesman/merchant and that is DEFINITELY me. But he has this tendency to get really pissy.... must be the long hair. That it is not me. Also he tries to word things extremely cleverly. I don't do that unless it just comes naturally. Silavur makes an effort.

Hum, I'd say 90% of Rongar is me. That being nice, patient and helpful. Also long hair and a beard, sometimes an ale... :sweatdrop:

Another attitute that Rongar and I share is being absolutely peaceful. Until getting provoked that is; then we make sure to bite. Badly at times. How did that old saying go? 'Let sleeping dogs lie' ;)

Things that do not match with me:

But yup, other than that we're pretty much alike, because I aswell created this char before I had anything to do with roleplaying, and since I slowly advanced in that, I couldn't change Rongar's character even if I wanted. :)

I'm making a list to make it easier. This is between me and Anarkia.

Similarities:

- Anarkia acts somewhat like an animal, as do I (hehe).
- She and I are both interested in dark  stuff such as magic/Wicca/death. I'm obsessed with learning about such things, but I don't necessarily believe in them.
- We both care for most any creature, even if it's a rat (Xeo!).  \\o//
- The gift of short attention span!
- Teenage mood swings. And a lot of confusion.
- We're both very rash and stubborn.
- Lean and hawt.  ;D

Differences:

- I have not created a silly inferiority complex like Anarkia has.
- Her personality is different from me... Actually, despite popular belief, I am a very reserved and quiet person, unlike her.
- I am not an uber kinky, naive, slutty waitress like her. Well, she isn't really like that, but she gets into situations that make her seem like it.  ::) And I was never a prostitute. XD
- She's an Enkidukai, I'm a Martian.
- I did not screw up my life like Anarkia did. I'm a lot more careful than her.

I'm a lot more careful than her.

werf. Raa, I wish you'd have been around when I was, we would've made a great pair of weirdos.

Hmm... If there is a lot of me in Marq, I'm not sure I'd want to know (or admit it :P). We're both tall, does that count as a thing? I guess his humor is probably my own too but, how can you really fake a sense of humor anyway?

(Disclaimer: The following is what my brain pictured when I thought about someone trying to fake a sense of humor... I apologize in advance. :P)
---

Bob: Hey Sam, knock knock.

Sam: What?

Bob: I said "knock knock."

Sam: Okay... *stares blankly*

Bob: It's a joke.

Sam: I don't get it.

Bob: Just fake it then.

*Sam shrugs, then giggles in a high-pitched voice*

Sam: Golly Bob, that was a good one.

Bob: Never mind, Sam. Never mind...

As for Phelonius, he's exactly like me. We're both 140+ year old dwarves, with crazy thick beards, odd southern-esque accents, and a love for ale. (I'm lying, none of that is true. :P) I think the only thing Phel and I have in common would be the writing thing... and pretty much nothing else.

As for the dozens of other characters I have made over the past couple years, I'm not even going to attempt comparing their personalities to my own... partially because it'd be way too much work and I don't care enough to even try... but mostly because I can't even remember most of their names, let alone their personalities. :P Majority of them were just boredom induced character studies that never lasted longer than a day or two anyway so, no big loss. ;)

*changes everything to "beige" for Liadan* See, I told you so. ;)

/me peers at Marq's post... "looks white to me!"

I suppose the only good thing about not having PS available is that I get to think about my char's personalities a little bit more.

I did say that Liadan has similar appearance to me, but she has my sister to thank for her personality:  the flaw of having a crush on every guy she meets, and yet is rejected by all; her tendency to aim for the peaceful resolution (by words);  wanting to help everyone she sees; argumentative late at night (still to be implemented)....I think that's it.
