Probably not the best part of the forum to post this, but
The school has fire-walled me out of anything that is not web-browser accessed. Which means:
No IRC
No PS
No apple mail.
Why? Because apparently the school's domain (@ cmu.ca) has joined the ranks of the annoying (read: spammer) and has been blacklisted by the IPs in the area. In an attempt to reticfy this, they have been using scientific method to deduce (read: trial and error) what works and what doesn't.
So i have the internet (for now) just ...can't...play... PS.
/me looks dejected and wanders off to do homework.
EDIT: And no MSN messenger..., and no yahoo...and no....wait... even jabber.

College school or high school or middle school (rofl)?

College school or high school or middle school (rofl)?
I would think college considering her age and major.
I remembered back when my college was like that and I just tunneled out of the building through my own box on campus to get around the IRC blocking rules. There is always a way.

Have you tried that?
irc.freenode.net:6667
#planeshift
Hope it helps

Did they introduce a proxy? That would be the easiest way to restrict almost everything... Easy to spot in the browser settings.

Hello,
some words to the technical way. ;)
To warn beforehand, you need a linux (*nix?) machine where you sit and another 'outside' that you can access remotely via ssh.
I found this some time ago. It is written for DNS and not for planeshift, but when I tested it for a few minutes it worked... uhm.. in general ::)
http://zarb.org/~gc/html/udp-in-ssh-tunneling.html (*hopes that links to outside aren't against rules*)
Do it at your own risk - firewall rules have their meaning and shouldn't be bypassed.

I'm using a mac...and apparently I've talked to a few people and they were able to use MSN last night, but I'm pretty sure they were using a windows machine...not sure if that makes a difference in terms of usability or not. Would it?
