Title: Which system do you prefer?
Post by: zorbels on December 04, 2007, 11:33:26 pm
My co workers and I are having a debate at work about which gaming console is better. What do you think? Just post your vote and I will add it to the tally in this post. See I may not have making poll rights on the forums offically but it can be done. :P I work with six people between three stores and these were there votes incase you are wondering why there are so many with no posts yet.

Wii [|| ]

Xbox 360 [|||]

Playstation 3 [|]

Awesome. I really want the Wii because I have every generation of nintendo but the Wii. Unfortantly they are rare to find at the moment here in Canada. The only way to get one is to try ebay. *pouts*

PS3 -
The Xbox 360 overheats and is just a mediocre gaming platform.  Also, Live is fail.

The Wii on the other hand is awesome, if you are more of a casual gamer.

PS3 has the ability to play DVDs and Bluray (on the 80 gig), along with some PS2 games.  Has beautiful wireless controllers which you can charge while playing.  Much more potential than the Xbox 360 and isn't microsoft!

W00t.

And Drey has a 360 which makes it fail :P

........... along with some PS2 games.

Beware though. The new systems soon to be flooding the market are not backwards compatible. They will not play PS2 games.

I like the wii, but I have been unable to get a hold of one, and I'm not spending $500 on ebay for one. The XBOX overheats, and the PS3 is very expensive. Also I don't mind about graphics that much. The Wii's are fine.

This thread is so depressing, I don't have the money to get a ps3 so I'm still playing my ps2. Don't think I'll ever get rid of it  :'(

I really can't decide, each system is so different. I'd most likely go with ps3 though just because I'm a playstation old timer. I'll give you my opinions though  ;D

Wii- Fun for groups, for play on boring days, for people not obessed with console games. No good if your the type of person who likes to play console games nonstop as there aren't as many strategy, rpg, and other games that fall under those genres. It'll get really boring to keep on playing the same old mario games  :P

360- All and all a good system. However I hate its controller, its just stupid. Unless your willing to get xbox live I wouldn't bother though. I personally get too bored of 360 games unless you get the challenge of playing agaisnt other players (which sometimes isn't very challenging because other players are horrible  :P )

PS3- The playstation console was always just created for every game. Casual players and those who play nonstop can be happy here. Why do you think the 360 and nintendo reserve games for their console only? Because if they were on the PS3 there would be no point to buying the others. The only problem I have with the PS3 is the outrageous price it came out for. If it wasn't for that I'm sure I'd have one right now  :'(

No worries Duraza. By the time you can afford a PS3 they will have come out with more games for the system so you won't have the issue of not having enough games to play like alot of owners who have the system right now. If you ask me the PS3 isn't worth the investment. They charge way to much for a system that has no selection of games.

When it comes to games I'm never worried though. I'm into the games that have been around forever like Tekken, Mortal Combat, virtual fighter, etc. I love a lot of other games too but those classic arcade games are my favorites. The console always ends up putting one of those on there eventually so all I have to do is wait. Besides those I usually just rent games and if I like them enough I'll actually buy them. Most of the time I buy a game just to beat it and never play it again so I figured renting is better for me unless its really good. All I need is at least one of the games listed above (and I know for a fact there is tekken 6 for ps3) and a racing game and I'm set  ;)

I had to vote PS3, but not because of the games right now. The PS3 has an amazing cpu and I'm thinking about getting one just to program on (which is my main reason for voting for it).
I would buy a Wii for games if I had to get one right now, but I think the PS3 has the most long-term potential.

My vote would go to the wii because it has so much potential but so far only two games interest me on it. Zelda and Super Smash bros. Zelda I can get opn my gamecube and smash isnt even out yet. So... My vote is for the ps3.

Awesome. I really want the Wii because I have every generation of nintendo but the Wii.

I always knew you were super cool Zorbels. Only super cool people (i.e. me :P) have all the old-school Nintendo systems.

My vote went for the Wii, mostly just for fun-factor, and videogame trailblazing. I was tempted to vote for the 360, it really does have a nice game selection and I really like the controllers (in spite of what Duraza says :P) but, it's just not as cool as the Wii.

As for PS3, it seems to me like a way overpriced system, that is more an attempt to swindle people into adopting the Blueray HD format and less about videogames. I also hate PS controllers in general, they really cramp my fingers. Plus Sony is just evil, at least as bad as M$, particularly with all their proprietary formats... why should I have to purchase some stupid Sony memory stick, when other non-Sony exclusive media is cheaper and more widely accepted? Also... I have not had good luck with other Sony products quality wise in the past so, they are on my list. ;)

P.S.
What is up with the PS3 logo on the system looking suspiciously like the font used for the Spiderman movies (A Sony Pictures film)... and is anyone really suprised there is (amazingly enough) a Spiderman 3 Blueray/PS3 bundle for sale?

*coughs* Gratuitous tie-in.

No, I never really wanted one. They were banned for a reason. I just can't play it and enjoy it, it's just to much red. So technically I don't have the complete collection but I never consider the virtual boy as a finish product. I had the chance to by two, even though they are rare but I didn't go for it.  I think nintendo would rather forget about that system and consider it never thought of. It bombed big time in the market.

I am actually quite surprized with the results so far. I figured that the Xbox 360 would blow the doors off of the PS3. I speak with alot of gamers daily and it seem to me they prefer Xbox 360 over the PS3. How strange it should be so different here on the forums. Interesting, keep up the votes.

"Every Virtual Boy game has the option to pause automatically every 15-30 minutes to remind the player to take a break, to prevent undue eye strain and possible headaches."  (from the Virtual Boy Wikipedia article)

I just remember games that looked basically like neon red gameboy titles and headaches. :P Plus, having to keep your head looking through the "goggles" was not exactly comfortable for long periods of time... but, guess that doesn't really matter since after 15-30 minutes your eyes and/or head would start to ache anyway. ::)

/me drools and slobbers over the Wii....

No two-player games? Nah, he just doesn't want you to break it. :P

Just further proof that too many people on the forums have no idea what they are talking (typing) about. ;) Kidding (mostly :P).

Actually I have a sneaky suspicion that the PS forums may have just a -few- more computer aficionados than the average subject group so, the PS3 may partially be doing better based on it's better hardware specs, assuming that super-techy people value that type of thing a little higher than the "average" person. If I were to guess, I'd say the rest of the votes are probably from people that see the price tag for the PS3 and just assume it must be better :P and of course people that actually just like the PS3 better for some reason or another.

the only game for DS I could imagine myself playing is forces unleashed... But, even then I have to question the controls for such an extensive game.

My brother has a DS and from what I've seen, I'm glad I got a PSP. It's a novelty and it wears off.  Its like a gameboy that you look at and think "Oooh..looks! I can touch the screen!!!1!"

I've played the Wii a couple of times, it's like a Nintendo 64, only with a stick. Don't like it. And as for the PS3, what happened to the #@$%-ing vibration!? ;)

But primarily, I use my PC. Oh, and the Dreamcast.  ;D

"Retro game emulators"? ... VICE and CCS64.

BTW, I started with a "Commodore 16".

And I repeat myself: Consoles are a ripoff. With each game again and again you pay the difference to the price of a PC, until the balance turns over.

The Wii may be something unique due to the physical motivation, though.

I had (and will again) software found on the net which allows the emulation of other past time consoles and home computers i.e. spectrum, c64, nes, snes etc... on the DS.

I remember my very first home computer was a C16/+4, many fond memory's of that machine and many hours spent playing a game called Zodiac :-[

I still prefer my PC though... after all i've bled for the damned thing ::)

Wii = Nintendo 64 with a stick?  What the hell were you playing, Sin & Punishment on the virtual console?

As for the DS, I got mine (the big silver one) the day after launch day.  I ultimately liked Metroid Prime Hunters: First Hunt better than Metroid Prime Hunters for some odd reason.  If there was one game I would recommend to anyone for the system, it would be Mario Kart DS.  Best Mario Kart ever.  Hell, best go-kart racer ever.  If I want to play 4-player, I play over the internet from home or college...against a bunch of random weenies who disconnect as soon as they're losing.

Hate the wii. It's for old people and kids.

PS3 is probably better than the three-shitty, but so far most of the games I've wanted were also for the X360 anyway (like Oblivion, Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Halo 3, Bioshock, etc.) and future games (like DMC4 and GTA4) seem to be going down the dual-compatible route. As long as MGS4 isn't ps3-exclusive, I should be able to avoid touching one...

The Xbox 360 Version is better, I think. Less glitches, more fluidic controls...

Loosely related: The HD war is almost over, the decision of Warner for BluRay made it almost final...

Let's call it a draw!

PS: PS3 is an acceptable Media Center, being connected via WLAN. Therefore my vote. Or was this poll restricted to actually playing games on them?

The advantage of the Wii is indeed the physical component. You have an excuse, that you are active even in front of a TV set.

Being active on the Wii? Thats a debate in itself.

Noticed that with the Wii, newbishness is directly proportional to awkward, superfluous movement.

Anyway, the problem with the Wii is that it's more of a party game. It's just not that fun on your own...

Too true. I beat my brother and his friend for an hour in tennis without losing a single game because they were swinging their arms and I was just flicking my wrist. It is fun to watch them exhaust themselves, though.

i really don't see how that's much of a problem, the wii being a party game. Unless of course you enjoy playing games on your own. But most things are always more fun with other people around.  Even if they are watching you making a fool of yourself by dodging balls flung at you from the trainer for boxing...

I think his point is that the Wii has little interest if you don't have people around. That does limit its validity as a "real" gaming system, as it's not really the sort of thing an avid gamer would sit around and play. I'm not putting the Wii down, I enjoy it, but I think what emeraldfool said about it's restrictions is fairly valid. I would love to play it with friends, but I'm not going to own one because unless I have friends over all the time, I'm just not going to enjoy it that much.

I find it's particularly a good system for people who live in dorms and have nothing better to do with their time than have people in their hall come over "for a game of tennis".

Really going to call a game system that forces gamer geeks to make friends a bad thing?
(yeah, yeah, I know, "vicious" stereotype... just a joke people, don't send letters. :P)

Anyway, I think there are and will be more games that are fun to play solo. Try Paper Mario or Metroid Prime 3, and I expect Super Smash Bros. Brawl to be fun alone or with friends if the online play works well. The Wii is more than just Wii Sports and Party Games, it has the potential to really change the way people interact with video games of all genres.

Oh you poor thing.  The bottom line is don't expect to attract any chicks with a piiessthree.  It's a known fact that it attracts (http://consumerist.com/consumer/sony/dust-voids-ps3-warranty-321226.php) other (http://consumerist.com/consumer/audio/sony-csr-what-no-dust-doesnt-void-your-ps3-warranty-321288.php) things (http://consumerist.com/consumer/polls/is-this-playstation-3-too-dusty-to-be-repaired-under-warranty-322858.php) besides (http://consumerist.com/consumer/videos/dusty-ps3-carey-greenberg+berger-on-fox-business-323671.php) chicks (http://consumerist.com/345806/visa-extended-warranty-protection-replaces-infamous-dusty-playstation).

I thought I'd link this video to demonstrate is awesomeness that can be done with a Wii, in hopefully soon to be developed single player games for it.

Awesome. I really want the Wii because I have every generation of nintendo but the Wii. Unfortantly they are rare to find at the moment here in Canada. The only way to get one is to try ebay. *pouts*

I finally have a Wii! Only I can't play it till March. :( It is a present for my daughters birthday.

Wii for the win.

I have one and I think its great, if not a little lacking in games at the moment. Come this year though it should be looking up.

xbox 360 - is what I'd get next if I was gonna get somthing else. I won't get it because of the overheating/ ring of death thing. Microsoft could be at least a tad more inconspicous when deliberatly planting a bug in their systems. For instance how about the system not knowing it's just died? Faaaiiillll. On the other hand the games do look good - dawn of the dead mainly - so many zombies and a big mall. Win win.

PS3 - I see nothing worthwhile on this sytem to be honest. Everybody has a DVD player nowerdays - so the PS3 isn't offering anything new. The games will still be badly made in the space of three weeks and the only thing that it has going for it is that the hard drive is large and the specs are great. Apart from good graphics, well it's kinda the same old system really. By all accounts it has a bad habit of dieing  or bugging out - more so than the xBox 360.

PS3 has bluray, the Xbox 360 can have something similar if you buy it extra.

The PS3 controller (though I prefer the PS2 one) is also better than the XBox 360 one.

And though the PS3 does have it's share of bugs, it doesn't completely break as much as the Xbox.

Added to which free online play with most games and a greater likelyhood of having Muhmorpuhguhs in the future.

As a gaming console => I will rather use a PC. (none of the above please)
As a system => PS3 anyday ! \\o//

PS3 for me is a
Gaming Console +
Cheapest Blu Ray Player +
Proper Internet Browser +
Full HD upscaler (for old DVDs) +
I can install Linux (Replaced my lounge PC !) +
Full media centre.

Taking nothing away from the Wii/360 but the PS3 hardware wise is much much superior, but is kinda let down by not having that "killer" game/software.
But then I am not a keen console gameR & dont find anyting on the Wii or the X360 which I may make me run out & buy a gaming console.
