Title: Endurance and Physical Stamina
Post by: Dionishtar on December 09, 2007, 01:31:26 am
I'm having a hard time following other players around because even when I walk my PS drains away real fast.  I can walk for about 25 seconds in a town and my PS drains from 100% down to 0%.  Quicker if I run.

Of course my endurance was only 39 when I started.  I have since got it up to 40 after finding a trainer.  Even so, my character seems unrealistically weak.  Who in real life can only walk for half a minute before having to stop for breath?  And it takes me longer to stop for breath than I actually spent walking!

Now maybe 39 is a REALLY low endurance or something.  So realistically what do I have to get it up to before walking is cost free or relatively cost free?  Anyone got any ideas?  Its making the game unplayable to be this much of a weakling.

the only reason your physical stamina would go down that quickly is due to lag, and the only way to fix that is to 1. update your graphics card drivers or 2. get a better graphics card.

Hmm, I doubt that's it because the graphics flow pretty smoothly.  And it didn't happen at all the first day I played.  Just every day since then.

Endurance lvl 40 is indeed really low, and depending on the weight you are carrying, your stamina does go down that quickly. It's normal, and not unrealistic. See it like this, your character was born and raised as a weakling, but now you're on your own, and can grow stronger if you like. ;)

You said the first day was fine; did you happen to die?  There is a Curse of Death that occurs after exiting the Death Realm; it's a temporary debuff, and should wear off.

when you are new, you don't have anything in your pack.  as you obtain items, they weigh you down, so it takes more work to run from place to place, so stamina drains faster based on how much you are carrying.  if you are near your max carry limit, well, it's going to drain quite fast.

I know about the Death Penalty and its not that.   I guess its because I carry too much.  To earn money I've been collecting rat bits and selling them at the tavern, so I often end up near to my weight limit.  I guess this is realistic when I think about it.  Who in real life can walk that far carrying near to their limit?

I guess I just need to get fit then!

Is weight limit connected to Strength or Endurance?  I think my Strength is pretty low also.  In fact its even lower than my Endurance.  Its only 32.

My strengths are in magical abilities, Charisma, Will and Intellect, but unfortunately these seem of less use early in the game.  I don't know if it changes as the game progresses but the balance early on is definitely in favour of brute strength rather than magic at the moment.  Even I, a weakling who started with Knives and Daggers Lvl 1 as their only combat ability could do more damage fighting than I could with a Summon Missile and lvl 11 Crystal Way.

correct, both actually.

and you'll have to excuse the team,  balance is one of those things that is still being worked on, so these issues will arise.

I'm not complaining about the balance, just making an observation.  I realise this game is still in testing and is currently only a 'tech demo', so I'm expecting to find things in an incomplete state.  Also it was not necessarily my intention to specialise in fighting magic anyway.  I think ended up with such a high Crystal Way score because I intended to learn healing magic.  I suspect stronger attack spells might be found in other Ways, such as Red... :)
