My husband pointed this out to me just now as he stopped by my work. This is the worst logo I have ever seen! Good god couldn't they come up with anything better? Some say it looks like a person giving another person ... well you know. Anyway what do you guys think? I voted on the site that I didn't like it.

Seriously, to me the number 2012 is too obvious, yet I do know what you may see, the more as its decorated with many other examples of the same category.

I know even my six year old daughter could come up with a better design! I can't believe they have even considered making this the logo. This is the Olympics, not the kids arts and crafts fair.
:surrender: I hope that truly isn't going to be the logo, or I will so be disappointed.

All I can say about the logos on that site is "What were some of them thinking??!!" I have no idea what that Chinese one is supposed to be, but based on the look of that logo, I don't want to know. :o
I can almost kinda sorta kinda see a something similar with that Olympic logo, but nowhere near as blatantly ... *ahem* ... blatant as some of the other logos. Regardless, it is pretty bad. It doesn't seem 'trendy' or 'elegant' to me. I can just imagine the designers of that logo laughing all the way to the bank over something that looks like it took 15 minutes to make. I've seen better works created with MS Paint on this forum. Hey Zorbels, maybe you should let your daughter take a crack at making an Olympic logo. I'm sure it would better than the 'real' one. In fact, I know there are probably dozens of artists in this community that could make something much better. New community artwork contest, anyone? ;D

People WATCH the Olympics?

BTW Canadians aren't all about curling, after all hockey was founded in this country. (I can't believe I know this stuff. I am not even a sports fan.)

Seriously, "contest to make a better olympic logo." We can send them in, one might get used if we are lucky and enough people have good taste to hate the current logo ;D

@Duraza: Exactly! And with all those big bags of money that the Olympic commitee would save on the logo design, we could just point them to the Planeshift 'Donate' button. ;)

In Germany, people were quite annoyed by the costs of the new logo for the "Deutsche Bahn".
Okay, fine - the old logo (http://www.osterfeld-westfalen.de/bilder/eisenbahn/eisen64_m.jpg) looked very ancient, the new logo (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Deutsche_Bahn_AG-Logo.svg) instead more modern. But after all ... swapping the colors and changing the font -- I wish I'd earn that much money that easily!
Logos for festivals and olympic games have been often a point of criticism. My "worst logo ever" is Twipsy (Expo 2000, Germany).

Yes. England was a part of Britain like Scotland and Whales. Britain became the United Kingdom in 1989 so the British no longer exist.

One of my middle school teachers once had a student who believed there was no World War II and that no one was ever prosecuted by Nazis. There was also a student who didn't believe in the moon, and another thought the greenhouse effect was caused by a huge glass sphere surrounding Earth. And one of my friends thought ketchup was a cancer-causing substance that was used to limit the world's population below its carrying capacity.

Also, I heard the British really became "extinct" do to over hunting by poachers. You know those redcoats fetch a nice chunk of change on the black market. Even heard there was a "Save the British" Wildlife Refuge set up somewhere in Hyde Park but, the poachers would just wait for the next big football (soccer) match then, pick them off when they all congregated at their respective "watering holes" to watch the game. :P

To be on topic... Why did they choose that one in the first place? It has no meaning, plus it hurts my eyes.

Just be glad it's only hurting your eyes and not giving you a seizure... I seem to recall reading somewhere that when that logo is animated, it can adversely effect people with epilepsy.

Marqsaynt, thanks for pointing that out. I remember reading that too while link surfing some of those articles related to that logo. It was this article here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/london/6729611.stm . The fact that it triggered seizures in at least 22 people is the most disturbing thing about that logo, IMO. :'(

Mayor of London Ken Livingstone said the company that produced the film which triggered the seizures should not be paid "a penny" for its "catastrophic mistake".
Well let us hope the company who produced the film doesn't get paid. I wouldn't want anyone receiving a penny for a seizure I might have had watching something like that!
