Well not be be nosy, but how much progress in development has Planeshift made until the final version?
Thanks!

It's a hard question to answer really since we don't really know what the final goal will be. In the end we don't have deadlines or bottom line or stockholders that we have to answer to. This puts us in a unique ( some would say good, some would say bad ) position. Normally after every version we sort of plan out what we want to do for the next big release and then work to that.
To me I can see no end in site for the project as a whole, as new concepts are developed they are added into the game and it will always be like that. I can't imagine a point where I log into IRC and see "Ok, PlaneShift is offical done" since there is always changes that can be made or improvements.
Think of it like this, can you ask a stamp collector when he's finished with his hobby? Or is a painter finally finished painting?
There are still large areas of the game we have not explored yet such as ranged weapons, player built housing, mounts, siege weapons etc ( Not saying that those will be added any time soon but those ideas are out there ).

Well, at a different angle, is a lot done so far?
No specifics, just a blunt answer.

you dont want specifics why dont you just get ingame and really look around, a lot has been done for this stage of development, but if you take a year off and come back you will see much more done.

I feel like there is a lot done, I would say we are maybe at 25-50% of what a real game should be. This is only my point of view from engine and programming side.

I can comfirm what Caarrie has stated here. There has been a drastic amount of changes in the game since my eight month absents. Not just in one area but all areas of the game. The development in this game has in my opinion tripled in the last eight months with the amount of options and content in game. The amount of work put into the dialogue of the game, new npc's, new maps, new places to explore, the newly implimented crafting skills and other such things is amazing. When I came back, I walked into a whole other world. It is fantastic and I can't wait to see what happens with this game in a year.

In my opinion, this is not a really good question to be asking since the requirements for PlaneShift 1.0 are unclear. Obviously, acraig does not know what they are, which says quite a lot. I admit, I am also interested in what the requirements are.
For now, what I want to know is, considering the requirements for PlaneShift 0.4 "Steel Blue" are known, how far will PlaneShift 0.3.021 be from it? Of course we cannot do things like build castles yet.

hmm.... lets see
the rest of yliakim,. hte stone labyrinths, kaliados, umm the cave... the npcs for those, the quests, the clockwerx,....
compared to that the amount that engine has to do is less then settings... pity the poor setting folk for the job ahead of them.

Clockwerx!
As far as Settings go... research a 750 year timespan. Any one will do. Tell me when you have finished learning everything there is about it. Now imagine having to create all that. :)

I wish I could help create it. I'm too young however. One more year!

Sorry, but I had to laugh at your phrasing of that answer in light of the original question. Some people who did not read the actual post it addressed could take it the wronge way. :D

I have a few ideas of how new releases will be treated after the 1.0 release. In general after the 1.0 release everything that is supposed to be there is there. The world is set and nothing new can come in-game via the settings (in the past). Any new releases MUST be role-played into game. I will try to make an example: Say the Stone Labyrinths are wanted to be expanded. After the 1.0 release you cannot just add it in and announce that you did so. For it to fit it must be introduced via RP. Likely this would be some expedition uncovered some new tunnels which are now accessible to others. (Players) I believe then that the year in PS of the final release should be 751. (Perhaps being born in year 750 could indicate you were a tester). Events and releases would carry on from there. So when the next release comes out it might be 752, 753, etc.
In theory then it would allow PS to expand while finally being able to have reached 1.0. Otherwise we may be stuck so that every time something is added that lengthens the time till the release. This would continue to where you keep thinking "just one more thing before 1.0". Hope I explained my point adequately.

Ohh... I was thinking that we and our children will keep annoying the devs for the whole eternity. People for everbeta! We want version 0.9.99999999999!
