Post by: zorbels on December 19, 2007, 01:06:03 am
Merry Ho Ho everyone, from my family to yours!

I figured I would start a christmas thread to post all of our holiday experiences, photo's, christmas want list and other such things. I also need a place to post this .....

I get the nagging feeling that people are only going to post here to say that christmas doesn't follow their religion or something...oh well, time will tell. :P

If they do want to, I would like them to keep in mind this thread is for those who do celebrate christmas. There should be no debates on who believes in what, where, when and how. If they want to start a anti christmas thread, then by all means do so. Otherwise respect the people who post here and keep your comments to yourself.

Yay Christmas  \\o//
Just another reason why I love winter.

My Christmas List:
Umm I want....
Some money so I can buy myself stuff  \\o//

Whats sad is that I never know what I want for Christmas so if someone asks I just say money or surpise me. Money always helps in some way or another.

My PS Christmas List:
For Talad to dress up as Santa and let all the people ingame sit on his lap and ask for a special gift  :P
For good rp times to all the good little boys and girls  ;D

nope santa not alowed to have people sit on his lap any more, at lest in england any how/me mummbles "stupid goverment got nothing better to do than make up stupid new rules"

Edit: that reminds me,

MERRY CRIMBO!

Rubbish jokes :D

 1: Santa's Outfit
How do you know Santa has to be a man?
No woman is going to wear the same outfit year after year.

2: Christmas Shepherd
One Christmas, Joe and Peter built a skating rink in the middle of a field. A shepherd leading his flock decided to take a shortcut across the rink. The sheep, however, were afraid of the ice and wouldn't cross it. Desperate, the shepherd began tugging them to the other side.

'Look at that, 'remarked Peter to Joe, 'That guy is trying to pull the wool over our ice!'

3: On Christmas morning a cop on horseback is sitting at a traffic light, and next to him is a kid on his shiny new bike.

Christmas Santa
The cop says to the kid, "Nice bike you got there. Did Santa bring that to you?"

The kid says, "Yeah."

The cop says, "Well, next year tell Santa to put a tail-light on that bike."

The cop then proceeds to issue the kid a $20.00 bicycle safety violation ticket.

The kid takes the ticket and before he rides off says, "By the way, that's a nice horse you got there. Did Santa bring that to you?"

Humoring the kid, the cop says, "Yeah, he sure did."

The kid says, "Well, next year tell Santa to put the stupidity in the horse's brain instead of on his back."

4: Twenty ways to confuse Santa Claus
Christmas Santa
1. Instead of milk and cookies, leave him a salad, and a note explaining that you think he could stand to lose a few pounds.

2. While he's in the house, go find his sleigh and write him a speeding ticket.

3. Leave him a note, explaining that you've gone away for the holidays. Ask if he would mind watering your plants.

4. While he's in the house, replace all his reindeer with exact replicas. Then wait and see what happens when he tries to get them to fly.

5. Keep an angry bull in your living room. If you think a bull goes crazy when he sees a little red cape, wait until he sees that big, red Santa suit!

6. Build an army of mean-looking snowmen on the roof, holding signs that say "We hate Christmas," and "Go away Santa."

7. Leave a note by the telephone, telling Santa that Mrs. Claus called and wanted to remind him to pick up some milk and a loaf of bread on his way home.

8. Throw a surprise party for Santa when he comes down the chimney. Refuse to let him leave until the strippers arrive.

9. While he's in the house, find the sleigh and sit in it. As soon as he comes back and sees you, tell him that he shouldn't have missed that last payment, and take off.

10. Leave a plate filled with cookies and a glass of milk out, with a note that says, "For The Tooth Fairy. :)" Leave another plate out with half a stale cookie and a few drops of skim milk in a dirty glass with a note that says, "For Santa. :("

11. Take everything out of your house as if it's just been robbed. When Santa arrives, show up dressed like a policeman and say, "Well, well. They always return to the scene of the crime."

12. Leave out a copy of your Christmas list with last-minute changes and corrections.

13. While he's in the house, cover the top of the chimney with barbed wire.

14. Leave lots of hunting trophies and guns out where Santa's sure to see them. Go outside, yell, "Ooh! Look! A deer! And he's got a red nose!" and fire a gun.

15. Leave Santa a note, explaining that you've moved. Include a map with unclear and hard-to-read directions to your new house.

16. Set a bear trap at the bottom of the chimney. Wait for Santa to get caught in it, and then explain that you're sorry, but from a distance, he looked like a bear.

17. Leave out a Santa suit, with an attached dry-cleaning bill.

18. Paint "hoof-prints" all over your face and clothes. While he's in the house, go out on the roof. When he comes back up, act like you've been "trampled." Threaten to sue for personal injury.

19. Instead of ornaments, decorate your tree with Easter eggs.

20. Dress up like the Easter Bunny. Wait for Santa to come and then say, "This neighborhood ain't big enough for the both of us.

As for my christmas list? I already got lots of stuffs, no need for more or them really. BUT! If santa might accidentally slip a PS3 underneath my tree i'll not complain. That, and a new HB pencil. mine is kaput.

:woot:  looks like our proglin had a very merry christmas that year.  ;)

speaking of people sitting on peoples laps .... at least this year I could get my daughter to sit on santa's knee. Last year she told santa "I can't sit on your knee because your a stranger and I don't know you." So I have a picture of her standing beside santa for last christmas.

Wait, are we talking about Christmas, as in Western-Christianized-Pagan-Holiday-But-We-Don't-Know-the-real-date christmas? or the Commercialized-gimme-pressies-or-else kind?

In the true spirit of being Canadian, I'll mention the other religious holidays of December....Or maybe not.

OK peoples beware if you still have christmas shopping left. The evil impatient would rather run you over than give you the time of day people are out!

I was shopping with my daughter yesterdy and this little old lady (looked sweet as pie) behind us smashed into my cart because the cashier wasn't moving fast enough for her. I think the old lady thought that would get the cashiers attention and make her move faster. Well this old lady didn't expect my six year old to give her a lecture on manners. It was AWESOME!

Ham, and turkey for our hosehold. There's a natural chemical in turkey called tryptophan that makes you sleepy, so I try to stay away from the turkey. Ham is my favorite.

same reason why trick-or-treating is discouraged methinks.  ANd because everyone's a scrooge and doesn't give out figgy pudding or hot drinks anymore...if they did ppl would sing christmas carols more...

Oh and because you live in Canada, i have to add this: Some people find it offensive to even hear the word Merry Christmas. So...reasons why we don't carol...b/c we're too PC.

Halloween is a sad case now. Insead of trick or treating, parents are becoming sell outs and taking there kids to the malls that look more like amusement parks than a halloween celebration.

I don't think caroling should have the same excuse though. It isn't like you are giving out candy or anything harmful. You are singing. If you go to someones door and they slam the door on your face, well I guess you know not to go there next year. I wouldn't mind it if some family came to sing at my door, it would just give me that whole christmasy feeling. I think it would also be a good way to bond with your neighbors instead of not knowing who you live beside. After moving out of the city into a small town I appreciate the small community here. It is nice when everyone knows everyone. There is a feeling of belonging and I don't fear for my daughter to walk down the street to a friends house.

I guess we are slowly losing our traditions and that makes me sad. What next? We get rid of the an easter bunny who promotes chocolate because your child my get the message that it is ok to be obese?

Funny how an ancient germanic and thus heathen rite of worshipping trees was adapted by nearly the entire christian world. Yes, us german(ic)s worshipped nature and especially trees before (and to some extent still after) we got forcefully christianized by Charlemagne (Carl the Great, King of the Franks) in the 8th century. ::)

It is a really completely german word... at least I would expect so. ;)

In german, "Humbug" (the "u"s spoken like in "pull" and "pool") is a good translation for "Nonsense":

Das ist doch alles Humbug! -- That's just a complete nonsense!

Bah, humbug.

Oh! But he was a tight-fisted hand at the grind-stone,
Scrooge! a squeezing, wrenching, grasping, scraping,
clutching, covetous, old sinner! Hard and sharp as flint,
from which no steel had ever struck out generous fire;
secret, and self-contained, and solitary as an oyster. The
cold within him froze his old features, nipped his pointed
nose, shrivelled his cheek, stiffened his gait; made his
eyes red, his thin lips blue; and spoke out shrewdly in his
grating voice. A frosty rime was on his head, and on his
eyebrows, and his wiry chin. He carried his own low
temperature always about with him; he iced his office in
the dog-days; and didn't thaw it one degree at Christmas....

..."A merry Christmas, uncle! God save you!" cried
a cheerful voice. It was the voice of Scrooge's
nephew, who came upon him so quickly that this was
the first intimation he had of his approach.

"Bah!" said Scrooge, "Humbug!"

He had so heated himself with rapid walking in the
fog and frost, this nephew of Scrooge's, that he was
all in a glow; his face was ruddy and handsome; his
eyes sparkled, and his breath smoked again.

"Christmas a humbug, uncle!" said Scrooge's
nephew. "You don't mean that, I am sure?"

"I do," said Scrooge. "Merry Christmas! What
right have you to be merry? What reason have you
to be merry? You're poor enough."

"Come, then," returned the nephew gaily. "What
right have you to be dismal? What reason have you
to be morose? You're rich enough."

Scrooge having no better answer ready on the spur
of the moment, said, "Bah!" again; and followed it up
with "Humbug."

"Don't be cross, uncle!" said the nephew.

"What else can I be," returned the uncle, "when I
live in such a world of fools as this? Merry Christmas!
Out upon merry Christmas! What's Christmas
time to you but a time for paying bills without
money; a time for finding yourself a year older, but
not an hour richer; a time for balancing your books
and having every item in 'em through a round dozen
of months presented dead against you? If I could
work my will," said Scrooge indignantly, "every idiot
who goes about with 'Merry Christmas' on his lips,
should be boiled with his own pudding, and buried
with a stake of holly through his heart. He should!"...

Just thought I would see what everyone had planned for their new years celebration

I am going to go over to a friends place for the day on new years eve. He has made a ice rink on the lake in his backyard. We ussualy play a bunch of games like ice bacci ball, and Jam Can (curling with javex jugs), and a few holes of snow golf. It's always a great time for the kids and adults, and we make sure we have plenty of Antifreeze ;D  He also has a nice fireplace and a suana so we can warm up after a day on the ice.

So... What are your plans ?

I'll be working till about nine in the evening, then go to my brother's place... He's apparently having some sort of a small party... With any luck, I'll get a game or two of Settlers of Catan in...
