Hay im just hopping back into the game like I do ever few months to see whats changed. This time around Im crashing after the game loades the world after I pick my character. Any help would be great
I'm running FC7
Update I managed to get the game to finish loading by turning the VBO on but its so slow its un playable. I have played the game in the past and im not sure what would be causing this.

Sounds to me like you don't have 3d hardware drivers for your graphics card. I got nvidia here and use the pre-compiled module nvidia-x11-drv-97xx. I don't know what hardware you have but you might be missing something like that.

ati-x11-drv is available from the freshrpms repository, the livna repository has a different package as listed here (http://www.fedorafaq.org/f7/#radeon). if you have never added any repositories and just use the default ones you will not have what you need. Livna doesn't seem to play nice with other repositories so I would recommend freshrpms (http://freshrpms.net) If not that maybe someone else has an idea.

Ive done as you asked but its still taking forever to load and running to sluggish to play

That chipset seems to be getting a little long in the tooth. Is it an older laptop? Anyway it may be that the only thing you can do is turn down all the graphic options in the PS setup application. I am fresh out of other suggestions hopefully someone else will have an idea.

Yes its an ld chipset but about 6 months a year ago on fc 6 I managed to run plane shift fine on the same hardware

What is the console output of:
?> glxinfo
and
?> fglrxinfo
Looking to see if the direct rendering is enabled properly
if you do
?> glxinfo | grep direct
you should see Direct Rendering: yes
however I have seen systems where the Mesa 3D libs are loaded in preference to the fglrx ones. If so this could well be your problem.

It's the graphic chipset. Since you last ran PS the lighting engine has been upgraded, this causes huge slowdowns on older hardware wherever there are substantial shadow effects, unfortunately most places in PS. While just adding extra areas, building and interface features, wouldn't cause such an inssue, upgrading the lighting engine will.

Im gussing theirs no way to dumb down the lighting and shadow effects then? :beta:

That would be a question for the experts. There is a "no grass" patch for Hydlaa that reduces a lot of lag caused by the new grassed areas, but as for the rest I have no idea, the lighting engine is integal to the game but there may be options in the configuration files to adjust it.

Envy (http://albertomilone.com/nvidia_scripts1.html) is good for installing or even uninstalling graphics drivers for ATI or Nvidia graphics cards.
