*dies*
For one, lag. I couldn't move the mouse without it taking a minute or two (literally) to figure out to move it here. I adjusted the size to 800 x 600, and I refuse to make it any smaller because I can hardly play with that. It works a little better now, but it's still somewhat slow.
And the tutorial... I tried everything, including, but not limited to:
"about blacksmithing"
"about crafting" (she actually understood that)
"Teach me about blacksmithing."
"Teach me."
"Yes."
"Okay."
"OK."
"Continue, please."
"Help me."
"Blacksmithing."
All of this to Neave whatserface...Blacksmith lady. I tried putting down what it said in the walkthrough, too, but it didn't work.
It appears that the stinkin' thing hates me... ::|

Maybe have a look at http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=30436.0 (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=30436.0)
Abelia Aruine says: Now, there is a dwarven lady just down the road; she's a blacksmith, and her name is Neave Besetun. She will be your next teacher and you will find her if you go exploring off to my right. Be sure to tell her that Miss Abelia sent you, and she will then do her part to help you learn more!
So it's worth to try "miss abelia sent me" ;)

Tried it about six times, and checked my spelling more than I should have had to. All that she says to anything I say is the whole can't understand, try "about x", "give me y", and that hooplah. I don't know if I like the way they made the tutorial... They should have made it optional... But I suppose we all need to be taught some way or another, whether we're so stubborn we start complaining (*cough* sorry...), or we would rather know how.
Anyway, I can't get past the stupid thing.
-
I have basically the exact same problem...
I talked to the first tutorial person, and I got as far as
"As a general rule, if you say the next thing an NPC told you to say, it will proceed the dialouge. General phrases are "about x" or "give me y".", or something similar. After that, I've tried tons of things, but I still haven't gotten any far. I tried talking to the other tutorial people, but I can't even get past saying "hello".
Is this a glitch, or am I just missing something?

As far as I know, only Abelia says "about x, give me y." You're supposed to say to Neave: "miss abelia sent me".I have basically the exact same problem...

Same thing, your quote is from Abelia. Try speaking to Neave or something...

Same problem here, 15 minutes of typing responses, trying to talk to other NPC's and nothing works, stuck in the friggen tutorial. Tutorials are supposed to help you get adjusted to the game, learn how to play, etc..
bad enough it took 3 registration attempts to get the stupid email verification to send, now this garbage.
I'll try again when I haven't been up for 18 hours, but I don't really see a point. right now it's looking like this game is a waste of hard drive space, and I've wasted my time setting up and account and the game. :'(
Maybe I'll have a change of opinion when I try again, but at this stage, I'm not too hopeful.

Try this (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32332.0).

Try this (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=32332.0).
I checked the logs.. might be nice if those were put into the game directory, instead of a hidden system folder :S I'll try the "thanks" thing and see if that works.
I noticed on the "walkthrough" sections that I found, they all follow the log pattern, until the "Abelia Aruine says: As a general rule if you will say the last thing an npc told you to say it will work to make the dialogue proceed. Common triggers might be "about x" or "give me Y".
That section is NOT in any walkthrough nor is it mentioned... Is this something new or that's been changed within the game?

bleh, so much for waiting...
tried other things.. tried going to another NPC, all the other NPC's simply say they don't understand. :(
not worth the frustration..
Graphics....... 4 out of 5
Sound.......... 2 out of 5 (music is annoying)
Gameplay ..... 0 out of 5 (can't finish tutorial, NOT playable)
-
Tutorials are supposed to help you get adjusted to the game.....
And how well it does ;op
The common triggers thing "about x and about Y" is error text, basically the NPC is saying "I dont understand you" but is trying to be helpful rather than just saying that.
It may be too late, but try "ready"

It is actually easier to have the logs and user files in a seperate folder so that we dont have to hear people after each release tell us they deleted their logs/screenshots/shortcuts and we cant do anything to help them.

If you tried the suggestions in the links posted (including the one saying that NPCs have to be talked to in a certain order and reading what they say is basically all you need in order to figure out what you should do next) you should have been able to complete the tutorial. If you are experiencing issues with it and are unable to complete it even though you've done everything suggested in those threads do contact a Game Master.
Some people want to be done with the tutorial so fast they just skim through what the NPCs say, which happens to contain very important information and then when they get the "about x/y" response they think the tutorial is broken when in fact the NPC is just saying they don't understand what you just said (probably because player ignored what they said in the first place).
Go back to your logs and find the last thing they said that wasn't that "about x" entry and see what you replied to them then and try again, using the info provided by the NPC. So if they say, for example, "tell Neave Abelia sent you", well, it's pretty clear what Neave expects to hear.
-
At some stage, NPCs also expect an item to be given. You may not always need to talk at first... well, in the tutorial, I believe you should talk first in general.

Well, isn't it all in vain if Hippy thinks that this game is not worth the frustration and is not playable?

But other people may read this thread and may get afraid by one single opinion...
Hundreds of new players each months are able to pass the tutorial.

Hi! I can not figure out how to give the blacksmith the molten iron in the tutorial. Everytime I try to put it into my inventory it ends up back in the furnace and before long turns to dust. If I type "ready" or anything else in the conversation pane she says that she doesn't understand me. Am I missing something?
Thanks!
-
You are not able to keep it in your inventory?
Then please check the "System" window if it contains a message about the reason. Is your character (fresh from start) too weak to hold even one molten piece? Or do you drop it onto a non-empty slot?
Try to get a Game Master who can guide you here. The best way may be in IRC: irc://chat.freenode.net/planeshift-gmtalk (unfortunately, this board software does not support clickable IRC URLs).
Call the names of members with "Ops" attribute, and ask if they can support you in the tutorial. You may have to tell them your tutorial instance number (enter "/pos" in the game message window and look in the "System" tab).

How exactly are you trying to put it in your inventory? You should be able to just drag it to your inventory window. You'll see the message "You have stopped working on molten iron" in your system tab when this happens. If your molten iron turned to dust, just tell Neave you need another iron ore.

I think this happens because the npc is not close enough to the furnace so that the character can both operate the furnace and trade with her. Perhaps people would have less trouble if she stood closer to it so that they do not have to move back and forth to carry out her instructions.
BTW the checkmark icon in the furnace interface is a place to drop items to return them to your inventory. hover your mouse over it and you will see a tooltip label for it. This goes for most containers as well.

I have a problem now. I'm on the last NPC in the tutorial and I can't give him the three items needed. He keeps declining my offers. I gave them both at the same time and one by one to see if it made a difference. It doesn't neither works.
-
Blah..i cant read >.<
Try giving all three items at once again
-
Nope. Still broken.
