I've tried attacking rats, gobbles, and rouges but i can't hurt any of them. I am using the dagger you can get from the tutorial and have 2 skill points in dagger use. Only once did did i get hurt and that was when i started a fight for the first time since leaving the tutorial.

Any message including "impervious (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=30173.0)" popped up in red?

I actually had this issue too once with a char..it seems I sat there and hit the rat until I was too tired, neither one of us did any actual damage to one another... it was like we kept missing or blocking, and nothing was be accomplished. Perhaps try getting better weapons..or remaking your char, I am not sure what to tell you.. I was using that char for testing some stuff so it was not a big hinder to me.

Sometimes that happens. I've heard that NPCs can have amazingly high defense ratings after server restarts. If you get a more veteran character to kill it, the respawns usually are not as crazy on defense.

Also keep in mind that not every rat has the same defense level even when the server is running normally. For instance I was in the arena today and new player was having trouble with a rat, no matter how many tmes she hit it with the knife it took no damage. I had a couple of spare short swords so I gave them to her, she killed the rat in a few strokes. The rat had a higher defense level than the player could overcome wth a single knife, another rat elsewhere may not be able to resist, so if a rat is impossible to kill, it may not be you, it may just be a tough rat that needs better skills or weapons to overcome.

This dose not only happen with rats, I have notice that some of the creaters are uncable of doing any demage to me, or I to them and this can happen with higher grades of wepons on creaters that should at least do a litte demage to my self.

There is a bug files about creatures respawning with excessively high defense ratings after server restart that should be fixed for 0.3.021 (as Ravenguard mentions) the only solution is to get a character with higher skill to kill them.
The flip side is that the creature cannot damage you either so it is kind of a balanced bug :)

another couple of things to try are use bloody attack or to boost your agility

You could try to kill the monster with some magic spell once. (If this is possible to you). I can usually do damage with magic spell, even if I can't hit the monster. After I killed it once it's no problem to kill it with weapons again.

Has there been any fix for this issue yet? It has been happening with every npc I try to fight. I managed to finally beat a rat to death hand to hand on bloody, but that did not help; that rat and all other npc's are still nearly impossible to kill. On the bright side its good for walking around in dangerous places since nothing can harm me either. (I had a gaggle of thugs follow me out to Groks place and back and I could do nothing but ignore them.) I don't have any offensive magic yet, so I can't try to fight them that way, and cannot get the tria or experience to get it.

I believe there has been progress on fixing this in the next release, so till then you just have to sit back and wait, or use a large group to try to kill the npcs.
