Today Aeridus kept his eyes closed when he woke up. Usually, he was always getting ready for the day almost right after he woke up, but last night he had a dream he didn't want to forget. For whatever reason, he dreamed about his twin and his parents. Why had he dreamed about this now? It had been more than fourteen years ago. They had left him. They had taken his twin brother and left him. Why did they leave him? The only thing he knew about it was they had come here a few months after his birth when they had suddenly left with his brother. The elder told him that his brother needed a skilled mage around the time he was left there, it was something about what had happened when his brother was born. He was a sickly child, but the elder said he should consider himself lucky that what happened to his twin hadn't happened to him. He was told the magic hadn't worked and his twin brother had died. What had become of his parents wasn't so clear. Some people said that they died, but these people weren't sure if it was just death. It could have been the True Death. But the more popular answer was that his parents had just left. If they had left why didn't they come back to him!?! He realized there were tears slowly winding down his cheeks, and when he moved to get up, he realized his pillow was wet. As he sat up he angrily wiped away his tears. Why should he be crying about people who didn't care about him enough to come back after his twin had died? He started getting ready for the day.
"Aeridus, where is your mind today! you need to focus!" his instructor said as he slammed a book down in front of Aeridus. Aeridus had been thinking about his dream again for whatever reason. He quickly flung it out of his mind and opened the book to where they had left off. "Now, the ceremony is in a few days. Have you thought about which Way you were going to learn?"
"I was thinking about, maybe, brown way."
His instructor sighs "You need to be sure Aeridus, you'll be studying this the rest of your life, a quite long one it seems it'll be. You've learned the rites haven't you?"
Aeridus smiles at this this "How could I not? You've drilled it into my head everyday since I was ten years old."
His instructer relinquishes a little chuckle at this "I'm glad. We have to make sure to keep the Alliance. It wouldn't do for us to let them down. So you are going to be a Brown Way mage? I need to finish preperations then. Well, you can go for today, and we probably won't have to meet until after the ceremony. Don't forget what you have to do!"
As Aeridus is walking out he turns around with a big smile on his face "Oh, you worry too much. I could probably do it in my sleep, though the water might wake me up."
[more later. Sorry for having this so short :)]
