Title: A possible solution to the Verification Mail problem
Post by: xyzzy on January 27, 2008, 02:57:09 pm
Hello! This is my first post on these forums and i hope i will not start with the wrong foot!

I have not yet played this seemingly wonderfull game , obviously due to the Verification Mail Problem which i will ,from now on , call VMP!
I have tried everything to the point of feeling that its only my problem. I have created 4 accounts with all the possible e-mails i had (for which i feel very bad about) and nothing.
I even tried the temporary mail service , mentioned at a point. Alas nothing has happened. Im so close yet so far away from this game due to a silly automated system miscooperation. I dont know if its the sending server's problem or if the email providers are to blame but i dont really care , i just want to play :D

Anyway to the solution at hand , even though i think few people enter this specific part of the forum , I would like to ask ALREADY REGISTERED members to post what email providers did they use and it did not bug.

I have used
Yahoo,
Hotmail,
Windowslive and
Yopmail

and none has worked so far. What have you used and has bugged?
And most importantly what have you used and did not bug?

Thx for your time and Happy to meet you!

My guess is that there really is something wrong with the account creation. I created an account last week and got a verification message in windows. This was for an email adress at my dutch ISP. I just created new accounts using a gmail email and one with the same dutch ISP, and have not yet received the email. LAst week it came much faster. Can someone check the account creation?

that would be ACraig, but he hasn't been around for about a week now.  guess you'll just have to wait until he gets back, or if there's another high ranking dev with access to it, and they get a chance to look into it.

Yes but as it is we dont know who to pm for that , as new members of the forums we cant even pm , so what does a global mod suggest the masses who want the Planeshift experience :P

Should we create a post where we give our acc inf so we can get activated manually?

Hmm i hope you dont think of me as someone who is trying to farm posts , and i know that you have already kinda suggested what to do
BUT: giving us the names of OTHER devs with access to it ( if you are aware of any1 of course ) and suggesting a way to communicate with them (dont forget , new forum members cant send pms) would be lovely :D

Again thanx for your time and rapidity of answers

EDIT: although i guess if we had their e-mails it could work that way

nope, only person other than acraig i could maybe seeing as having access to it would be Talad, but he's pretty busy himself.

there's always email to them, or hopping on IRC and seeing if any dev is on that is able to help.

if not, then

edit:

but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ns59Bmqpms&NR=1  we'll get it fixed.  :)

I did have a bunch of requests in my inbox for activation.  I tried to handle most (all?) of those today so if you did email me and didn't get a response soon and your account is still not working let me know.

I am also awaiting registration.

(Though I have tried several different email accounts, the one associated with my forum account is preferable.)

EDIT:  After awaxnl edited his post (below), I also tried the 're-send verification email' option again, and it worked immediately.  Thanks!

I've also tried to register using 3 separate email addresses and waited a day but still no email back, so i'm not really sure what to do...hopefully it will be fixed soon because this game looks like alot of fun.

Edit: Well i just tried to resend the verification mail on one of my accounts and it worked!..i don't know if anything changed on their end because i haven't changed anything, but i'm glad i can play the game now :)

We dont need constant updates on this, when it works it works if it does not fine one person can let us know, the devs and forum mods dont need 50+ threads and posts in the course of a few days just because it does not work.

who said anything about constant updates? i said i'd post any NEWS. Are you familiar with the term?
I was only trying to cheer up and calm down my fellow new players with the same problem, i obviously wasn't trying to flood the forums or anything like it. Jeez, i thought we could use the forums to express our concerns and share our thoughts with understanding people

Finally. However, I still haven't recieve that email...
Its 10mins - 24hrs right?  ???

Why can't they do this at the same speed as the forum's registration?

Why can't they do this at the same speed as the forum's registration?
Because the verification emails for game accounts are sent by another server, which has some problems apparantly.
The devs are looking into the problem at the moment - please be patient :)
Title: Re: A possible solution to the Verification Mail problem
Post by: Mordraugion on February 09, 2008, 11:08:24 am
The guy who can fix your problem has a job and a family so you're just going to have to wait preferably quietly and to be honest if you two are this impatient just waiting for verification then you're going to be at heart attack levels once you start playing.
Anymore pointless "I still haven't received confirmation" posts and I'll consider deleting/locking

Well thats because its  :beta: isn't it? That means its just in the testing stage.
Expect bugs and glitches EVERYWHERE after you finally log in  :P

Also, I'm guessing that the verification email system either isn't automated, or has major flaws in it.
If 1, We wait for the admins to come online.
If 2, We wait for the admins to modify it (aka come online and do stuff).  ::|
So either way we'll have to wait...

BTW, already 14hrs after I registered my account, and still no email.  :@#\ :@#\

Edit: Finally. Thanks admins. Even though it took like 38 hrs...

I'm not impatient, i just want to play it sooo much...
Im sure i'll be able to wait and tolerate any delay once i start playing.
But it's like waiting for christmas. You know your parents bought you what you wanted, you know it's there, under the christmas tree, you can see the shape of the firetruck under the wrappings, but you cannot use it yet.
I want my firetruck, mommy!

Glad to see someone so excited to play PlaneShift!

While you wait to receive your verification email, perhaps you could meet the rest of the PlaneShift community on our irc channel( irc.freenode.net, #planeshift). That'll help the hours pass, and you could get some insights into the game before you play.

Once again, welcome to PlaneShift!

I can give you my e-mail.

It is not automated when you email acraig, he takes time out of his very busy day to activate accounts when issues like this come up.

Am I allowed to ask an admin what my current password is? (if you read my other thread you'd know that the problem with me is that I forgot my password and can't receive the new password e-mail, not trying to make a new account)

I can give you my e-mail.

Ver there is no way for an admin to get your password as it is in md5 format, you will either have to give them a new password they can put in, or wait for the system to be fixed

For everyone who has tried registering for an account, please go to http://laanx.fragnetics.com/register/index.php (http://laanx.fragnetics.com/register/index.php) and click "Resend Verification E-mail".

You should get your verification e-mail and be able to start your first character.

Could it be that the provider considered the verification email as spam and block it or moved it to a spam folder?

aol has their own internal spam filtering system and removes email they consider spam before it can ever get to your email box, so you'd never even know if it was sent to you or not because of that.

when people say to try a different email address, they mean one from a different email provider.

Opps...Okay my dad was on a bussiness trip (he showed me the game)he found out why the verifacation was acting funny. Comcast and many others consider it major spam and filter and destroy it before it even gets to your spam box even if you do allow all E-mail to get in unlike G-mail and many others.

(P.S. sorry about going crazy again now Im happy  :) see you in the game!!!)

Maybe somebody should update the part "Trouble with Verification Emails? (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=21401.msg269168#msg269168)" in the Thread "PS Tech Help Guide" (http://hydlaa.com/smf/index.php?topic=21401.0) and delete all the posts about this problem?

Also the reason we say use a different ISP not just a different account aol/hotmail/yahoo are well known for being spam sources so always try and use a trusted ISP for account verification

you have three options:

1) try to have it resent and check your spam/deleted items folder in your mail to see if it got kicked out there.
2) try to register with a different email; one that comes from a different provider, like gmail.
3) send an email to Rizzin, from the mail address you tried to register with, asking her to validate the account for you.

:)

the email issue seems to be a misconfigured MTA (mail transport agent) at fragnetics. according to this bug report fragnetics has been informed and will fix it, if not already happened.

Yeah ive tried 2 different providers and still haven't gotten the verification e-mail. I do believe it must be a problem with the mail server with which they are using. Could an admin please activate my account? I got the verification for the forum account just fine but the one to actually play the game just isnt coming in. I've tried every possible thing. I would greatly appreciate some help with my situation. Thank you.

If you've read some other posts on the forums, or searched. You would see that we are having some verification e-mail issues. All of those posts typically have a line from me saying "Please e-mail me from the account that you tried registering from...".

you have three options:

1) try to have it resent and check your spam/deleted items folder in your mail to see if it got kicked out there.
2) try to register with a different email; one that comes from a different provider, like gmail.
3) send an email to Rizzin, from the mail address you tried to register with, asking her to validate the account for you.

:)

Hi, i'm brand new and i'm having the same problem! i have a few questions;

One: anyone know of a email type (yahoo, gmail etc) that DOES work? i use San.rr.com.

Two: can anyone tell me the email address of a admin that can activate my account for me?

Thanks for any help you can give!

Of course, but you'll need to e-mail from the account that you signed up with. My e-mail address can be found in my profile (click on my name).

Ah, I was hoping to find a thread like this. I don't use a free email provider (I manage my own email addresses on my own domain), and I even tried adding new addresses but it wouldn't work. Rizin, expect an email in a minute.

Hey people. Just to say that I registered using my GMAIL account, and I didn't receive my confirmation e-mail yet. So obviously, there are some flaws on the whole "gmail" workds issue.

Because its weird that none email can get verifyed.

The issue was with the mail server not set up correctly, it has possibly been fixed please give the email more then a 1 hour or so, up to a day before asking for help. We would like to know if the issue has been fixed or if more has to be done to fix it. Accounts dont get deleted for inactivity.

I got verified within 10 minutes at my freenet account. I got verified from my teksavvy account in less. The reason the freenet one took longer was because I had to retrieve it from the spam filter applied to that account by the isp.
What am I going to do with all these accounts?

load up a char for each account on multiple computers and bind them all to the same keyboard/mouse, and then go in game and have your own personal army.

If you have yet to get the verification e-mail you will need to e-mail me from the address that you used to create the account.
