Title: Sleeping
Post by: Suno_Regin on February 11, 2008, 01:56:01 pm
When people roleplay sleep, they may be going to work, school, or sleeping in real life. Since days in Yliakum are so short, they'll be sleeping for days on end. So I'm asking: How long do people generally sleep in Yliakum?

Right now I'm RPing that they were so exhausted they just slept for days - that gets a little too overused now.

In some cases, other times they log off with the excuse they were asleep.

I stay away from explaining OOC actions ICly most of the time because they obviously have no perfect answer. When I log off I assume my character just goes on living like they would usually do. Simple and effective.

I agree with Zan.  It's just that nothing noteworthy happens during that time.

MAN! I wish I could sleep that long  :P
As to the question:
I'm no settings team thingie, but I'm pretty sure Yliakum people sleep as long as 'normal' people do, around the 6-10 hours a day (depends on person)
Though i would go for an 6-8 hours of sleeping as back in tha (medieval) days people weren't as lazy as we now are  :sorcerer:

Typically I rp my character being elsewhere, hence if i'm at the tavern..

*Listbard walks out of the tavern.* from then on out nobody rply knows where he goes, but hes left to somewhere.

Later if someone asks rply "Where have you been?" I could just say "Oh, I've been elsewhere."

What I do think is a perfect example for when you go on vacation or leave for a long time and come back is: "I was on another level of yliakum for a while." (exploring/visiting friends/dot dot dot dot)

Though I do use the bit. "Well friends i'm a bit tired, I must depart." *Listbard walks upstairs.*

Then log off, as far as anyone else is concerned, hes a sleep, but obviously not for days, one can assume that your character wakes up after about 8 PS hours, and then goes away to do other stuff - but is just not seen for a while.

There is never a need to get too specific with things such as this stuff.

I use to just try to figure out what happened with other players in advance for some occasions.
Last time we just wrote some ic'ish posts in our forums which resulted in our chars having built their new house. After all it took maybe 15mins for me rl-time and described several hours "ingame"-time (lol)
But I also just claim anything that comes to my mind and fits the latest events in my char's life, be it sleeping, hunting, leathercrafting.. whatever is needed.

I am more wondering about Yliakum people being awake nonstop much longer than "normal" people. And by that, day-night-change loses any significance.
Or did anyone of you ever check the ingame-time, say after 30mins of playing, its 1am ingame and you get your char "home" to rp sleeping for the next few hours rl-time? ;)
After all, days and nights dont matter, use it when you just can make use of it, and ignore it when night doesnt fit your plans, I am sure anyway that the vast majority doesnt care about ingame-time, except for occasions like ways to greet ("good morning" etc.)

Me, I just RP that I have gone back to Printh for a while, in relation to my duties.

I rp that Meredee goes to bed when it makes sense.. but when I come back next day or after few hours I dont rp that i was sleeping all the time... If somebody asks me about it I rp that I woke up and then had a very boring day or that I was hunting away from Hydlaa. Come on, other players are also people who have real lives and sometimes go offline, you dont have to make up an elaborate story just to cover the fact, that you were not in game for half a day...

Phinehas studies. That's what he does when people don't see him in the tavern... He's studying, or sleeping, or eating, or doing whatever he darn well pleases in the solitude of his residence. Mostly studying.

It's one thing to be ambitious but, to think you can get your hands on my body???  Pffft, Nurahk knows to aim lower.  Besides, he'd stand out too much in my walking masterpiece.  :P

True, can't have fiction being too close to reality :P
